openTwoferTokenMinority parameters
For Twofer Token Minority, does "minority" mean:
- minority amongst the characters in the show
- minority amongst the assumed demographics of the setting
Like does gay count as a minority trait if it's a Cast Full of Gay show? I thought that Token Minority dealt with handling, which would suggest #1?
Specifically asking because I think Louis in Interview with the Vampire (2022) is not a Twofer Token Minority. He's gay, but nearly all the main characters in the show are gay and bi men, so he's not a token. But I'd like to get a second opinion before I make the edit.
Edited by EievieopenAccount creation date
How is it that there are a few accounts with a creation date of 1969? Did this website even exist at that time?
openMemetic Loser misuse and formatting.
Biohazard 2035 added this to YMMV.My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic:
- Memetic Loser: The Alicorn Princess who are not Twilight Sparkle (and by extension Flurry Heart, as she is just a baby and not even capable of being aware of her full surroundings) get this to a degree, due to often suffering *The Worf Effect by getting easily knocked out or defeated by whatever villain or big threat is showing up, especially in the two partner episode. Its to the point their power is nearly an *Informed Attribute. Despite this, they do get some moments to prove their power and accomplish things, although often only after being saved by the Mane 6 or others first.
- Princess Celestia gets this worse of the other Alicorns. She has gotten hit with *The Worf Effect the most, having usually been the first to fall to whatever villain it is she faced. Just about everytime she intervenes directly, she gets easily beaten (of note against Nightmare Moon in the present, Queen Chrystalis, and even Cozy Glow, a child, at one point, among many other times). This and her tendency to sit on the sidelines and do nothing but give vague advice during certain threats(depending on the episode) has landed her with a reputation as a pushover whose existence is mainly to serve as canon fodder or even a *Red Shirt to demonstrate the power of whatever villain needs establishing. Even taking into account her feats of magic and victories in-universe prior to the series, her track record on-screen left much to be desired.
Besides them having formatting problems I've brought up earlier, these entries are similar to what prior ATT argreed to cut as just canon losses, not how fans exaggerate them. While this is slightly better about how exaggerated, it still states those canon mitigations are not enough/Informed Attributes so legit complaints not fan exaggerations. Also fans dislike/reject these moments as part of their fanon portrayal as opposed to let it influence them to portray them as even bigger losers in fanworks so I think misuse there.
Permission to cut?
Edited by Ferot_DreadnaughtopenConcerning Fridge Horror Removals on BJF
I noticed that in the Fridge page for Become Jehovah's Friend, tarponpet removed an entry on Fridge Brilliance and the entirety of the Fridge Horror section.
While their reasoning makes sense for the Fridge Brilliance entry, it doesn't really explain the removal of the entire Fridge Horror section, which from what I've heard about the show (and to an extent JW as a whole) has valid concerns.
Would it be alright for me to restore?
Edit: fixed typing errors and specified which page.
Edited by RedBerryBlueCherryresolved Too similar tropes
I saw that for the amazing digital circus character page, Ragatha has both Captain Ersatz and expy. I don't think she should have both given that they have subtle differences. What do y'all think?
openBonus/special edition tracks on an album
If an album has a bonus track or other song only included on certain editions of an album (e.g. a special/deluxe edition), how should that be included in the "Tracklist" section of the album's work page?
I'm working on a page for an album that has a track that's only included on certain versions, such as some later remasters and the Japanese release, but I'm not sure how to list that. At first, I thought of having a note by the last track of the album which says "Some versions of the album contain an additional track known as "Song Title" (Length)" when clicked on, but I'm not sure if that's the correct formatting.
Edited by punkcrowopenDeleted Work
Fortune Favors the Brave has been deleted. The link to the page no longer works and I have been unable to find any backups on Way Back Machine or Archive Today. Based on the page's history, the work was paused/deleted sometime in July 2021.
I was able to find the author's AO3 account, as well as their Tumblr account, which show that they are still active and writing as of today. According to this Tumblr post, the author was very disappointed with a certain episode of the series and how it portrayed the characters, which made them no longer want to continue working on Fortune Favors the Brave, so they decided to delete the fic and rework it later. However, this never seemed to happen and there have been no further posts on this work since November 2021, so it looks like the idea has been completely abandoned.
Should I move this page to DarthWiki.Unpublished Works?
openNot Since Carrie help Literature
Hi, I am thinking about creating a page for the book Not Since Carrie: Forty Years of Broadway Musical Flops by Ken Mandelbaum. But I’m unsure what category it would belong to, as it’s non fiction and is a history/reference book about the risky world of musical theatre. Hope you can help fellow Tropers, thanks.
openTons of appearances in an infobox question Print Comic
Characters.Green Arrow Speedy has a 'first appearance' list for the characters, which is fine, but then it goes into every comic they ever appeared in whether they have trope pages or not. Roy's portion is really long; should it and similar parts be trimmed, cut, or left alone?
open TRS crowner

openTroper widespread formatting issues.
Many of Biohazard 2035's edits has * in front tropes as if they're cutting and pasting them from lists, as well as other typos like so:
- The Alicorn Princees who are not Twilight Sparkle (and by get this to a degree, due to often suffering *The Worf Effect by getting knocked out or defeated by whatever villain or big threat is showing up, especially in two parters.
Even when they revisit/add to their entires, this error remains. They've proceeded so much I bringing here to do something about.
openInformation on old cut tropes
I was looking for the original discussions that removed the old, now-defunct pages Big, Badass Wolf and Everything's Worse with Wolves, which now serve as redirects for Wolf Tropes and were replaced in function by the current pages Savage Wolves, Noble Wolf, and The Big Bad Wolf, the latter having been in existence before the rest were cut.
The basic history here is as follows:
- These tropes existed and now they don't. They are not listed in Renamed Tropes, Split Tropes, or any of the Trope Epitaph pages, this in particular being the main thing that I'm trying to fix here.
- Problem is that to do this I would like to access the threads where these decisions were made, both to know the precise rationale that they had and to link them, since entries on Split Tropes link the relevant discussion threads.
- The cutting and reworking process seems to have taken place in 2013. The actual cutting took place in November.
- SW's creation edit describes it as having been "agreed on in the badass cleanup thread". This isn't linked to and I've been having trouble tracking it down in the forums. Noble Wolf has no comment, linked or otherwise.
- Everything's Worse with Wolves was originally made into a redirect to Wolf Tropes. Big, Badass Wolf was instead made into a disambiguation page for Canis Major, The Big Bad Wolf, Our Werewolves Are Different, Noble Wolf, Savage Wolves, and Wolf Man. In February 2014, a user named Catbert, who has not been active on-site since 2016, changed both to redirects to Wolf Tropes, which is what they are at present. No discussion or rationale was given for these last edits.
The main thing that I've been trying to achieve here is to find what forum or thread the original discussion took place on so that I can add the tropes to the relevant cut/renamed/split trope lists. However, this proved to be a little more complicated than I expected it to be. I've tried using both the forum search and Google to track the threads down to no particular success. I'm making this query to ask if anybody here was involved in that discussion or at least knows how to track it down so I can do that and move on with my life.
(I'm also kind of tempted to revert the 2014 edits to the original redirect/disambig status on the principle of the thing, but, well, it's been ten years, so it's not exactly super urgent.)
Edited by TheriocephalusopenWhat happened to my index "Seal Tropes"?
So I created an index back in 2022 (https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/discussion.php?id=wnveei9eeagpm1ev76221x3j) that was an index for tropes about pinnipeds (and there's quite a number of them). Now, I've been off of tv tropes for almost 2 years and I looked at all of my old projects when I returned yesterday. I checked back at this TLP, but for some reason, it was nuked, even though it said it was launching on 2/28/23, also with no comment or reason indicating why it was discarded.
Was there a policy change on indices or specifically animal indices that occurred during my absence? I do remember there being a lot of animal indices in TLP around the time I left, as well as just lots of discarded indices in general (one of which I recall being an index on asexuality, which IIRC had quite a number of tropes).
openAnime/KihachiroKawamotoShorts Anime
I created this page as "Animation" originally because these shorts are Stop Motion, not Anime-style animation per the site's description. But someone put it under "Anime" regardless because according to that person Japan would not be included in "Animation", basically "everything animated from Japan is Anime". I disagree. What would be the best option?
Edited by Irideneropenkkj12345 = Canine99 and Superherofanatic1999?
As mentioned here, a troper named Canine 99 was suspended for bashing people in the Choices: Stories You Play fandom. I have a suspicion that kkj12345 may be them ban evading. Both tropers frequently edit(ed) pages (more often than not, YMMV and Trivia pages) regarding Choices books, often with a negative tone, and they both have/had a tendency to add Fan Nicknames that only they used (and sometimes, they fell into "Detractor Nickname" territory, despite them not being allowed anymore). The former troper was suspended in 2019 (and apparently ban evaded once already as Superherofanatic 1999 later the same year), while the latter troper began editing in Spring 2021. This page (specifically, regarding the same Fan Nickname entry) all but confirms my suspicions.
Edited by UFOYeahopenRidiculously Potent Explosive and the ending quip, violation of ROCEJ?
Way back in the distant era of 2019, I launched a trope called Ridiculously Potent Explosive, it includes an ending quip about the Reality-Breaking Paradox of a real-world explosive breaking the laws of real-world physics, by the text of:
"When a real-life explosive emerges that breaks the laws of physics, then [a real life example] can be added.. and may God help us."
Originally, I potholed those last five words to Portal 2 because a line in that game goes "If the laws of physics no longer apply in the future. God help you."
I since changed the pothole to the Reality-Breaking Paradox, as that means you no longer need to know Portal 2 to get the quip, and it is still - in my opinion - a fun way of drawing attention to the absurdity of a real-life explosive breaking the laws of physics.
But now in the enlightened year of 2024, I am wondering if the quip is insensitive, considering "God" specifically and religion in general are quite controversial.
So is the ending quip in violation of the Rule of Cautious Editing Judgment? Should I change those last five words to something else like "for all the good it will do us"?
Edited by TheharboopenSpectacular spider-man MJ knows Peter’s secret Western Animation
I was reading over the page the spectacular Spider-Man and I saw in the example of secret keeper that according to word of God MJ knows Peter secret. Can someone please provide the source?
Cross posting with the games' Discussion Page and forum thread but posting it here since no one pays attention to those pages.
Basically, the Super Robot Wars pages are inconsistent on whether or not they use the "expanded" titles for their games or not. For example, we have a page for Super Robot Wars Advance, even though Super Robot Wars A is what other sites use and it's what the art on our page uses. This is admittedly an extreme case since the Updated Re-release was on the PSP and it was very explicitly A and not Advance there, but it's equally true for Super Robot Wars Judgment which is usually referred to as Super Robot Wars J. We don't even have it as a redirect. The same is true for a bunch of other games in the series.
And then we have Super Robot Wars V, but no Super Robot Wars Voyage.
Given that the expanded titles aren't really part of the game or packaging or anything as far as I can tell (I'd say it's All There in the Manual but the games I own where this applies do not have manuals) I'd like to move all the pages to their shortened versions and turned the expanded versions into redirects.
