Could it possibly be Magi-Nation? The MC and his two friends gather dreamstones, travel moonlands, and collect dream creatures. It has two seasons and the in the near last episode of s2, the dream creatures get turned into monsters controlled by the shadows and the heroes only have one left to fight back.

Anime where main character and his two friends travel the world getting stones to find out they need to go collect the monsters they got them from now. In the final battle he starts losing and all the monsters turn on him. It wasn't a long show. Only two seasons. But i can't find it. Help pls
