It takes a village to make sure TVTropes is running the way it should, so when it comes to spotting tech snafus, dreaming up a better digital mousetrap, or just diagnosing plain old asshattery, the quicker you let us know something's up, the quicker we can address it. See a bug? Point to it and we'll squash it. Have idea for a new feature? Post in the Tech Wishlist.

This is a well known glitch. You can get around it by copy and pasting the stuff you wrote, backing out, and opening the editing screen and then pasting it all in. At least, that's what I do.

Always if I recall correctly? If the timer runs out on new page, it'll act as if a other user checksout the page even though as a yet-non-existant page it shouldn't have any.

Yeah, it happens every time if you run out the clock on a new page.
TBH I don't even know if a new page should have a clock since 9 times outta 10 nobody else will be clamoring to make a page for some obscure book you just read.

I think a check wouldn't hurt. When there's a trending ongoing work, multiple people very could try to make the same page at the same time.

That's fair, but then maybe new pages warrant a longer lock or something instead. People are naturally going to take longer than 20 minutes to create a new work page if they aren't rushing or making a super short page, and editing multiple times in a row seems more annoying.

that is a good idea. the only thing i can think of is a troll might be able to refresh the page repeatedly to lock someone out, but even then, that would require they get lucky with refreshes

I think there's actually an intended update coming that causes someone to get locked if they aren't editing, so someone can't just sit on a page for however long.

i was making a page in the Music namespace when the lock expired as i edited; when i finished and clicked 'save', it told me that someone else is editing the page and i need to wait for them to finish
i waited the 30 minutes to see if anyone actually editing a blank namespace; so far, no one has
it is also a fairly obscure band; i dont think anyone else was actually editing it
