Your mama may have had eyes in the back of her head, but our admin team just can't see everything at once. It takes a village to make sure TVTropes is running the way it should, so when it comes to spotting tech snafus, dreaming up a better digital mousetrap, or just diagnosing plain old asshattery, the quicker you let us know something's up, the quicker we can address it. See a bug? Point to it and we'll squash it. Have idea for a new feature? Post in the Tech Wishlist.
NOTE: Do not post duplicate bug queries, please check existing queries to see if your issue has already been reported and then comment on it.
This is a well known glitch. You can get around it by copy and pasting the stuff you wrote, backing out, and opening the editing screen and then pasting it all in. At least, that's what I do.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure Purenessyep, just copy-pasted the thing after i was sure there wasnt an actual editor
hail, holy queen of the sea, you're whirling-in-rags, you're vast and you're sadAlways if I recall correctly? If the timer runs out on new page, it'll act as if a other user checksout the page even though as a yet-non-existant page it shouldn't have any.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupYeah, it happens every time if you run out the clock on a new page.
TBH I don't even know if a new page should have a clock since 9 times outta 10 nobody else will be clamoring to make a page for some obscure book you just read.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessI think a check wouldn't hurt. When there's a trending ongoing work, multiple people very could try to make the same page at the same time.
TroperWall / WikiMagic Cleanupyeah agreed, and i could swear several editors reported it happening when they made new trending works. ill scour the bug reports
hail, holy queen of the sea, you're whirling-in-rags, you're vast and you're sadThat's fair, but then maybe new pages warrant a longer lock or something instead. People are naturally going to take longer than 20 minutes to create a new work page if they aren't rushing or making a super short page, and editing multiple times in a row seems more annoying.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure Purenessthat is a good idea. the only thing i can think of is a troll might be able to refresh the page repeatedly to lock someone out, but even then, that would require they get lucky with refreshes
hail, holy queen of the sea, you're whirling-in-rags, you're vast and you're sadI think there's actually an intended update coming that causes someone to get locked if they aren't editing, so someone can't just sit on a page for however long.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure Purenessokay yeah that def helps. hmm
should we make a post on wishlist for your idea? esp since i dont know how easy the ghost editor issue will be to fix
hail, holy queen of the sea, you're whirling-in-rags, you're vast and you're sadI have made plenty of pages, and I can't recall a single time when this HASN'T happened.
Space Battles Dot Com fanworks (unnoficial) index in my Sandbox.
i was making a page in the Music namespace when the lock expired as i edited; when i finished and clicked 'save', it told me that someone else is editing the page and i need to wait for them to finish
i waited the 30 minutes to see if anyone actually editing a blank namespace; so far, no one has
it is also a fairly obscure band; i dont think anyone else was actually editing it
