WMG / Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga

Go To

    Pre-release theories
One or two of the Five Wives will have A Minor Kidroduction, living alongside her family with the Wretched, when Furiosa first reaches the Citadel.
  • Jossed, they only appear as adults in a cameo.
The People Eater will have a Chronic Backstabbing Disorder if he appears or is mentioned and will switch sides at least once in the war between Joe and Dementus due to his ideas about what is profitable and who is winning.
  • Jossed. The People Eater remains on Joe's side throughout the story, and since he isn’t in charge of Gas Town at this point yet, he doesn’t have any military forces of his own to bring to the table.
The Bullet Farm will appear in person, maybe being attacked by Dementus.
  • He is seen above what appears to be a foundry, while a bunch of bullets pour down onto him.
  • Given how his vest has bullets on it, maybe Dementus started out as a Mook or slave there and heads back for revenge.
    • Confirmed. As part of his opening gambit in the 40 Days Wasteland War Dementus conquers the Bullet Farm, but Pretorian Jack and Furiosa render it inoperable on the very same day.
The Polecats will enter a battle in a way reminiscent of how they introduce themselves in the 2014 film but will actually be The Cavalry here due to potentially opposing Dementus.
  • They are a faction it would be good to see again.
    • Jossed

The remnants of Dementus’s faction will become Rock Riders.
  • It would explain why Furiosa is so willing to betray them, and a biker with horns on his helmet is seen driving alongside Dementus in the trailer. Also, both factions seem to be based in the hills.
    • Jossed. The Rock Riders exist already and kill one of Dementus' final party. That said, it's not impossible they are part of Octoboss's splinter group from earlier in the film.

While Corpus Colossus will be absent, Joe will use an invention he made while still making an Anti-Intellectualism comment about it.
  • Maybe a lone gyro-copter as a callback to the second film.
    • Jossed
The inspiration for the Warboys will be discussed and will relate to Scrooloose from the third movie.
  • Jossed. We get to see more warboy culture in places but they already exist when the movie begins and their origin is not explored.

Valkyrie will almost be kidnapped with Furiosa but narrowly escape and may be biologically related to her.
  • Furiosa is briefly seen running through the Green Place along with other girls.
    • Confirmed. Valkyrie is with Furiosa at the beginning and only narrowly avoids capture herself.

The Many Mothers will be shown at their most pacifistic while a couple of the ones from the 2015 movie warn them they need to start using weapons and tricks more often and it is her abduction which makes them accept that (something Furiosa hears about later during her captivity).
  • Furiosa is briefly shown wearing a mask and helmet like the one some of them wear, so maybe some of them were already fighters but another flashback implies the group as a whole isn’t like that.
Jossed. It's made very clear that the inhabitants of the green place are more than willing to kill to keep the secret of their location from getting out. It's unclear how peaceful they are, but they are in now way pacifists.

The Warrior Woman from the second film will make a cameo, having been Left for Dead but survived to join the Many Mothers.
  • Jossed
Jeet, Gutgash, Pink Eye, Chumbucket, Hope (albeit maybe combining elements of her comic version) and Griffa from the game (or at least their locations) will be mentioned).
  • Given the Character of Dr Dementus first appeared in the Mad Max Videogame it’s not unreasonable to assume other characters that were in the game might make appearances. And while we’re on the topic of the game.
    • Confirmed for Chumbucket, jossed for the others. Chumbucket appears in the Citadel (though goes unnamed outside of the credits) and Scabrous Scrotus also has a supporting role.

The Movie will be a partial retelling of both the prequel comic and the Mad Max Video Game
  • Aspects of Furiosa’s life are oddly similar to that of Hope’s. Taken from her home as a child? Taken as Property of Dr. D? Check, Check, and Check. We even see Furiosa driving a vehicle that is remarkably similar to the Demented Chariot from the game.
  • Jossed
Someone will show off something they acquired in Bartertown (or maybe a location with a name like New Bartertown) either recently or long ago.
  • Jossed
Miss Giddy will be a warrior for Joe and/or one of his wives at this point in her life.
Jossed. Miss Giddy does not appear.

The film will show what happens if Joe ever has a daughter. He probably wouldn’t kill the girl, but maybe will kill the mother.

Daniel Weber plays a young Ace.
  • Ace should appear in some capacity.
  • Jossed. Ace is absent.

Dementus and some of his men are remnants of the army of Lord Humongous.
  • Both groups seek to contain some enforcers who wear black bandanas.

Joe will still insist on being called by his military rank here into to abandon it for the Immortan Joe name at the end.
  • Jossed
The Green Place will have a dog or monkey like the ones Max had.
  • Jossed.
The Organic Mechanic in this film will die and is actually the father of the previously-introduced one.
  • Jossed. The Organic Mechanic is the same individual as the previously-introduced one.

May from the first film will be an ancestor of either the Many Mothers or Miss Giddy.

The Oasis from the third film will be a mysterious Famed In-Story place compared to the Green Place.
  • Jossed
Someone will mention or have flashbacks about fighting in the Thunderdome.
  • Jossed
Tommorow-Morrow Land and the Great Northern Tribe will be mentioned as factions that are stabilizing regions but that Joe and Dementus view as weak and refuse to cooperate with.
  • Jossed
A Hidden Elf Village like a continuity of government bunker with society and technology like before the end of society will be seen or rumored in this film or a future installment.

Dementus will die predicting to Furiosa that she will be unable to stand by Joe forever and that he takes comfort in how she will betray him one day.
  • Jossed
Dementus will show potential (maybe realized, maybe not) to be an Auntie Entity-style Anti-Villain.
  • Some parts of the trailer seem to treat him like a co-lead rather than a threat.
Jossed. While a case can be made for Dementus as co-lead (and possibly Ensemble Dark Horse), he is villainous throughout and, beyond sparing a young furiosa some torment, is not ever shown to be particularly sympathetic.

A nomad in a Main Pursuit Force uniform (or even a group of such characters) other than Max will cameo and cross paths with Furiosa before going on his way.
  • Jossed
Furiosa stole her name.
  • It's going to turn out that the character we've been following wasn't born Furiosa or even born in the Green Place. She met the original Furiosa, who will die in the opening scenes, take her name, and make it her life's goal to find the Green Place in her stead. There's a shot in the trailer where "Furiosa" screams her name, and even without context it looks and sounds like a I Am Spartacus moment where she convinces whoever that she's who they're looking for.
    • Jossed - the main character is called Furiosa from the beginning, is introduced in the Green Place, and definitely does not die.

Joe will kill Dementus, but he will be Defiant to the End
  • He will curse Joe with his dying breath and tell him one he considers close to him will see Joe for who he is and turn against him - naturally that being Furiosa.
    • Jossed - Furiosa kills Dementus.

The vehicles will undergo a form of natural selection in this movie
  • We see a motorbike chariot, a paraglider, a custom monster truck, and whatever that shredder thing on the war rig is. By the time of Fury Road, the gimmicky, resource-heavy, or just plain worse designs have been outcompeted by Simple, yet Awesome vehicles.

The green place will be implied to be getting worse
  • perhaps someone comments on the water being sour or oily. As mentioned on the Mad Max: Fury Road page, it's within a days drive from a lead mine and a fracking site.
Jossed. We only see the green place briefly but there is no indication it will not continue to thrive making the revelation of its fate in Fury Road all the more tragic.

    Post-release theories
Dementus is Chris Hemsworth
The film's villain isn't just played by Chris Hemsworth — he is the actor, who survived the apocalypse, but was driven mad by the loss of the world around him and his family. He's clearly still in shape from acting in that other film series, and Dementus shares Thor's post-depression beard and his love of capes. Hemsworth is even Australian, so it makes sense that he'd be in the area.

Scrotus isn't the same character as Scabrous Scrotus from the videogame.
  • He is only ever called or credited as Scrotus rather than by his full name and looks nothing like he did in the game or comics. Given the number of wives Joe is shown to have gone through in this film (and how at least one is on her second or third pregnancy), he could conceivably have a lot more Inadequate Inheritor sons than previously thought (maybe discarded for being useless to his empire, maybe kept in a nice quiet room in the Citadel if they aren't of any use to him but he retains some paternal feelings for them), and more than one could be named Scrotus.

Some of the Green Place survivors who didn't join the Keeper of the Seeds' band navigate to the coast to join the Great Northern Tribe or Savannah's group.
