"Everything stacks!"
One of the game's many splash texts. They aren't kidding.

PokéRogue is an free and open source Roguelite browser game based around the gameplay of Pokémon created by Pagefault Games. The game visually resembles the fifth generation of Pokémon, using animated sprites wherever possible. It also incorporates every monster, move, and ability throughout the series to date, though some moves and abilities remain partially or even completely unimplemented.

After picking your starter Pokémon (of which you start off with every starter from the mainline games, sans Pikachu and Eevee), gameplay consists of battling opposing Pokémon non-stop, with each battle (referred to as "waves") being analogous to a level in a traditional Roguelike. At the end of every battle (minus the Boss Battles at every 10th wave), players can pick one item from an item roulette, including money, healing items, stat boosters, and held items. There is also a shop in between waves from which the player can purchase healing items. Catching Pokémon lets you pick it as a starter in future runs, with stronger Pokémon having a higher cost, preventing you from picking more (powerful) starters. A Pokémon's cost can be reduced by using Candies, which can also be used to unlock their passive ability, secondary abilities that are active alongside their primary ability.
