Basic Trope: An evil, often supernatural, dog.
- Straight: Emperor Evulz uses large, supernatural dogs as Angry Guard Dog Mooks, and one of them he named Fido is his Right-Hand Attack Dog.
- Exaggerated:
- Evulz' guard dog Fido is the size of a pony, has red eyes, drools poison from its jaws, and has thick black fur.
- Evulz' attack dog Fido is the size of a skyscraper, considers itself as the evilest hellhound in the world, loves to scavenge the carrion of other henchmen and dead animals, and cause planetary destruction to Evulz' targets. It also has both red eyes by default, and when seriously enraged, changes to completely black eyes. It can use its psychic power to make the Gatling gun on its back to shoot at will. It drools explosive, corrosive saliva from the mouth, which has all kinds of poison, venom, and toxins, which even the slightest drop of the drool can fatally annihilate nonorganic and organic targets. Not only does it have purely black fur, it can also fire giant energy blasts from its mouth, and move faster than the speed of light. It can even manipulate time to outright blitz its targets without them knowing what's going on. Taking it to space is meaningless, since it could teleport and fly, as well as being fully able to breathe in space.
- All the dogs in the setting are hellhounds.
- Downplayed: Fido is large and dangerous, but not supernatural.
- Justified: Despite their nature as Man's Best Friend, just like their human owners, dogs can be very frightening and dangerous predators, having evolved from Savage Wolves, and Evulz uses hellhounds because of their hunting ability as well as to appeal to fear.
- Inverted:
- The good guys are the ones who use dogs as symbols of courage.
- Heroic Dog
- Subverted:
- The hellhound is actually on the heroes' side.
- Evulz' dog Fido is actually a perfectly normal dog, and the heroes deal with it like one.
- Double Subverted: However, it has the ability to turn into a real hellhound.
- Parodied:
- Emperor Evulz is guarded by an evil, snarling little dog that only manages to bark at the heroes.
- Despite being an evil demonic beast, the Hellhound has all the stereotypical dog behaviors that the heroes take advantage of.
- Zig-Zagged: Some hellhounds are good while others are evil.
- Averted: Evulz doesn't use hellhounds because he feels that they're cliche.
- Enforced: The creator has a phobia of dogs.
- Lampshaded: "I've heard that Evulz' fortress is guarded by packs of slavering, evil man-eating black dogs."
- Invoked: Evulz chooses hellhounds to intimidate his enemies.
- Exploited: The heroes train specifically to deal with hellhounds after hearing about Evulz' use of them.
- Defied: Evulz uses less traditional guard animals in case the heroes know how to defeat hellhounds.
- Discussed: "You know, Evulz is a dog lover. We're gonna be dealing with hellhounds."
- Conversed: "Hey, look. Hellhounds. Guess that's Evulz' fortress."
