Just like the original Diamond Is Unbreakable, this retelling has its own collection of chuckle-worthy moments. They take full advantage of how the slice-of-life setting allows for it, to the point where there's plenty of original examples.

Unbreakable Diamond, Protean Rain

  • The whole domino effect from Irene unknowingly watching a Hentai tape that Josuke secretly found in chapter 8 is one surreal rollercoaster. Irene obliviously thinks it's innocuous from the cover art, and Koichi is none the wiser as he helps Irene put the tape into the TV. Cue Koichi panicking upon seeing what part the tape is at after he gets off the phone with Jotaro to inform him they found her. Right as it happens, Josuke and Okuyasu come up from the lower floor chasing after a Stray Cat (yes, that Stray Cat) that found its way into the shop, which they got scared by. Cue even more chaos.
Koichi: WHY ARE YOU WATCHING THAT?!
Fubuki: Koichi! Why are you screaming? Irene, why are you watching that?!
    • When the end result of the chaos leads to a vase hitting Irene and knocks her out bleeding, Josuke, Koichi and Okuyasu begin freaking out. The three think they killed her until Fubuki checks her pulse. It's topped off by how in the heat of the moment, Josuke forgets his Stand can heal, which Fubuki has to remind him about. Right as that's done, the group is interrupted by an Immodest Orgasm from the TV, which indicates they forgot about it during the chaos, and right in the midst of Fubuki's displeasure with Josuke, he realizes he forgot about the now-burning food he was cooking and bolts for the oven.
    • This is then followed by Josuke's decision to give Irene The Talk to keep her from asking Jotaro about what happened on the presumption that she's curious about what she saw. The kicker? Right as Josuke finishes, Irene remembers that she already knows what it is, and she learned it from Holly, no less! Cue a Spit Take from the utterly shocked quartet, and an oblivious Irene asking for some dessert.
Irene: Ohhh, I get it now! They have sex! I already know about it, Grandma Holly already explained it to me!

  • Prior to Echoes' off-screen awakening, chapter 10 has Josuke, Fubuki and Okuyasu attempt to "hatch" the egg Stand that Koichi got from the arrow after Fubuki remembers it. All kinds of attempts are made, which thanks to canon, fall flat in amusing ways.
    • The very first thing Okuyasu thinks about is smashing it open, which Josuke quickly advises against as to not hurt Koichi in the process. Then another idea hits Josuke, which isn't much better as it's just placing Koichi on top of the egg.
Josuke: …For some reason, it looked better in my head.
Okuyasu (laughing): Now he's a proud mother hen!
    Koichi: Th-that's not funny!
Fubuki (muttering darkly to himself): I take back what I said about Josuke a while ago... note
    • Next, they try boiling the egg in water, which they stop as soon as Koichi starts feeling pain from the heat. The group thinks of what options they've got left, which has a bit of humor sprinkled into it as well.
Josuke: Well, we can try putting the egg in an incubator since that's how you get chicks to hatch without a mother...But we don't know where we can get an incubator at such short notice... We could make the oven into one—
Koichi: NO! No more! You're not touching my baby—I mean, my Stand egg again!
Fubuki: Look, the only way Koichi was able to materialize it was because he was in danger. So in order for the egg to hatch...
    • As shown by an Answer Cut, Fubuki's idea ends up being to dangle Koichi out the window of the second floor of the Spider Threads store, using Purple Rain to hold him by his legs. It baffles Josuke and Okuyasu, as they think Fubuki went too far with this one. It almost seems to work as the egg shakes, only for it to disappear. Norisuke's arrival as he wonders what's going on also leads to a Stealth Pun from Fubuki.
Koichi: Argh, you big dummies! I was so scared I almost peed my pants!
Norisuke: Heeey, what's with the hostile atmosphere?
Fubuki: Hi, Uncle Norisuke. We're just... hanging out.
[Both Josuke and Okuyasu stifled their giggles while Koichi is just so done with them.]

  • The arc where Josuke and Joseph find the Invisible Baby/Shizuka has some Adaptation Distillation, but where it kicks off is also where Onodera becomes part of it. Her entrance catches Josuke so off-guard he briefly Screams Like a Little Girl because of the timing:
Joseph: What? You want me to buy everything?
Josuke: Yeah, I can't go in there! Look at me. Do you have any idea how that would look to people? The last thing I need is the whole neighborhood thinking I knocked up some poor chick.
    Onodera: Well, did you?
    • A flustered Josuke tries to brush her off when Joseph asks if she knows Josuke, who proceeds to pretend he doesn't know her. It goes as well as you'd expect. The kicker is that Joseph is amused seeing this happen.
Josuke: Her? N-no way! I don't know this dull-looking whats-her-face, hahaha! Anyways, let's go somewhere else—
Onodera (After giving Josuke a Dope Slap): Who are you calling a 'dull-looking', you hoodlum?! You got a lot of nerve to say that right in front of me when I let you eat the bento I made for you just the other week.
Josuke (Muttering): The garbage from the school's trash cans are actually more edible than whatever you cooked.
[Onodera begins hitting Josuke's back as a result of it]
    Josuke: Aieee! Ouch! Stop that!
Onodera: Why you... Ooh, you're awful! The nerve of you!

  • Josuke and Fubuki's "Freaky Friday" Flip as a result of Bangles, Ichikawa's Stand, which starts towards the end of chapter 24. After both pass out a while after putting on Ichikawa's friendship bracelets that Josuke got from her (which were an attempt to resolve the conflict from their sleepover the night before), they wind up in the nurse's office, with the scene seemingly starting from Josuke's perspective, and with some quick foreshadowing, it's actually Fubuki's perspective, now with Josuke's appearance. While Fubuki is in disbelief upon looking at himself in the mirror, Josuke thinks that Fubuki is Hazamada pulling something with Surface upon waking up to see himself until Fubuki pulls on his ear (which manages to be an interesting variation of Something Only They Would Say).
    Josuke: What are you?
    Fubuki: It's me, Fubuki.
Josuke: Bullshit! I know what Fubuki looks like! Where are you, Hazamada?! Are you using Surface to pull a prank on me?!
Josuke: OH MY GOD!! I'm a nerd!
    Fubuki: Oi...
Josuke: MY POMPADOUR'S GONE!! I'm practically naked!! I want my body back!

  • After Hitomi finishes explaining her Troubled Backstory Flashback about what happened when she was in Italy and the deaths of her father and Vincent Bongiovi, Jotaro comforts her, which snowballs into a comfort makeout. Joseph then enters the room while carrying Shizuka and walks in on the two before seeing what's going on and awkwardly walking out. The kicker is that Jotaro and Hitomi never notice him either.
Joseph: Jotaro, did you have any more of the diapers—(...) Oh my god.
  • During Josuke's birthday in chapter 37, Miyazaki drives Josuke's group (consisting of Fubuki, Koichi, Okuyasu and Onodera) to his place. However, Miyazaki turns out to have some insanely reckless driving skills, which despite (or probably because of) them, he loves driving. By the time they arrive, everyone in the group is shaken as described by some Comedic Sociopathy (especially in Koichi's case). The lone exception is Okuyasu, who found it thrilling instead. Everyone's words after help drive it home.
    Fubuki: I'm never… getting on a ride… with him again…
Koichi is trembling and staring in blank space, chanting a prayer to calm himself.
Onodera: I didn't know you were a Buddhist.
    Koichi: I wasn't… until I experienced Mr. Miyazaki's driving.
    Okuyasu: Let's do that again!
    Josuke: No!! No, no, no…NO.

    • In that same chapter, before the party can begin, Miyazaki insists that the group wear some costumes that he hands out. They all seem to be out there for the group, as once they're all on, Josuke's is a sailor, Fubuki's is a cowboy, and Koichi's being a 1920 era Italian-American gangster. Okuyasu and Onodera's end up being more strange, as Okuyasu's is a maid while Onodera's is a giant strawberry costume (which she has trouble moving around in). What tops it off however, is what Miyazaki's ends up being after seemingly arriving cloaked. His ends up being Fan Disservice when his is revealed to be one of Dr. Frank N. Furter, which horrifies the group to where they nearly leave. It's little wonder they insisted to ditch the costumes upon deciding to stay.
      • As for once the party begins, Miyazaki tries his hand at karaoke once Josuke is finished. Turns out it's his turn to sing badly, and he also gets an artist name drunkingly wrong.
Miyazaki: Here's my favorite song from Savage Garden! Last Christmas, I gave you my heart, but the very next day you gave it away—
Okuyasu: Oi, Teach! That's not Savage Garden!

  • In chapter 65, Josuke is talking with Koichi and Okuyasu about Kira's whereabouts and how dangerous he could be. Then Koichi spots Shigechi in the distance, which Josuke misconstrues as it's right as he's going over who they can't afford to lose, which is Black Comedy considering what originally happened to Shigechi.
Josuke: Kira is very tricky. If he gets cornered, he'll lash out and take out one of us. We can't afford to lose anyone else. He could get you, Okuyasu. Or you, Koichi. Or even...
    Koichi: Shigechi?
    Josuke: Yeah, even Shigechi!
Koichi: No, he's coming this way.

  • During Rohan's part of the July 15th arc, because Fubuki accompanies Rohan thanks to believing his word at the beginning, one particular change is how Cheap Trick's attempts to insult some passersby as they cross the street get (cathartically) thwarted. Here, Fubuki twists them as if they were part of a crude comedy act, with some hilariously witty responses that double as fine retorts to Cheap Trick's insults. The only downside this time? Fubuki's simply just embarassed he had to say what he said.
Cheap Trick: Yo, limpdick, you're as slow as a snail!
Fubuki: Be patient. I'm fucking things up as fast as I can.
Cheap Trick: How much make-up you need to cover up that butt ugly face?
Fubuki: Have you seen yourself in the mirror lately? You scare the shit out of your toilet.
Cheap Trick: Where are you going, buddy? Gonna buy some drugs or something?
Fubuki: Definitely need some drugs to knock me out after listening to you.
Passerby Man: Hahahaha! That's some funny shit, man!
  • During the quartet's vacation in the mountains towards the end of story in chapter 75, there's plenty of laughs had by the group as they spend their day.
    • Following the inconveninces on the way to the cottage, Okuyasu arrives into the room Fubuki is in with one thing that could have made him feel better. Fubuki leans in for a kiss, thinking it's some intimacy, only for Okuyasu to get up from the bed they're on and fetch him a gift he got for him which causes Fubuki to fall to the floor, much to his annoyance (though Fubuki does pull Okuyasu into a kiss after he opens the gift).
Okuyasu: I got you a little gift, I found it at Kameyu Department! I think you might like it!
    Fubuki: Okuyasu, you… buffoon…
Koichi: Hey, Fubuki, I got the worst news...
The door opened and a mildly disappointed Koichi stood in the doorway. Okuyasu and Fubuki stared awkwardly at him, and Koichi stared back. The smaller boy's face then went bright red like a tomato. He looked like he's trying not to freak out.
Koichi: Uh, w-w-well...! I was about to say I forgot my toothbrush!
He quickly ran out and slammed the door.
Okuyasu: ... Well, there goes my boner.
    • Topping it off is Josuke's cool reaction upon coming out from the bathroom to see a bug-eyed and jaw dropped Koichi, where he puts two and two together:
Josuke: See, I told you they'd do it.
    • When the group gets to the hot springs, the group notices that Fubuki has fallen asleep. Josuke then gets the idea to prank him, which he manages to get Okuyasu and even Koichi in on. They braid part of his hair into pigtails, put some yellow flowers from a nearby tree onto his hair, and then draw on him with a lipstick tube that Okuyasu found in the bathroom of their cottage. After Josuke wishes he could remember the moment, he and Okuyasu get Koichi to take a quick photo, which wakes up Fubuki. Once he realizes what happened, he one-ups the other three's laughter by using Purple Rain to manipulate the water to immobilize them, and then repeat the lipstick drawing and photo taking on them.
    • When Josuke and Okuyasu leave the cottage to go rent a movie and get snacks, Fubuki has a heartfelt heart to heart with Koichi about their friendship. At the start of it, Koichi learns why Fubuki hasn't seen a horror movie following Koichi's request for them to not rent one:
Fubuki: Real life is much scarier than fiction.
Koichi: ...I'm so jealous of you.
    • At the end of their conversation, Koichi remembers his earlier blunder, and Fubuki catches on, making a simple, yet stern warning about what Koichi saw:
Fubuki: If you speak a word to anyone about what you saw between me and Okuyasu, I'll turn your piss into jelly and make you eat it.
Koichi: I don't know what you're talking about!
    • Once Josuke and Okuyasu return, they return with what they said they'd bring, along with some gaudy souvenirs, including some for Rohan and the Nijimura father respectively back in Morioh:
Koichi: What kind of souvenirs is this place selling?!
Fubuki: This is the last time I let you two shop at a new place by yourselves.
Josuke: Don't be a sourpuss, Fubucchan, I got you a gift too...
He happily pulled out another souvenir from the bag: a pair of cat-shaped wooden sandals.
Fubuki: What makes you think I'd want THAT?!
    • When they're about to go to sleep, Okuyasu decides to give Fubuki a hickey. Unfortunately for Okuyasu, he's unaware that Fubuki had been having nightmares of Miyazaki, as not only the hickey scares him, but Fubuki proceeds to beat him up for it. Josuke and Koichi then start hearing noises coming from the other room, but given what they both knew of earlier, they think it's something else, especially because of what they're saying and how they can hear slapping sounds and a bed creaking as it happens (and gets more intense). In Koichi's case, all he can do is look up at the ceiling with a horrified expression since he's the one closest to the wall.
Okuyasu: Ow! Ouch! Fubuki, stop, it hurts!
Fubuki: You're a bad boy, you deserved to be punished!
Okuyasu: Ouch! Nooo, don't pull me hard!
    Fubuki: We're not done here!
Okuyasu: Please, I can't take it anymore!
Josuke (Looking to Koichi): Do you want to switch sides?
    • Right after, Okuyasu goes to Josuke to get fixed up following his Amusing Injuries, which included his ear getting pulled on. However, Josuke thinks what happened is what he and Koichi thought they heard, as indicated by the last thing he says:
Josuke: Man... I can't imagine the pain your butthole must be feeling right now.
    Okuyasu: What?!

Bizarre Christmas of 1999

  • Fubuki being annoyed at hearing "Last Christmas" and him wishing the radio stations would play different songs ends up being funny from just how relatable it is. It's not unlike how people in the west think of a certain Mariah Carey Christmas song. Even then, the Wham! song is actually a song played enough to where people in Japan get sick of it during Christmas.
Fubuki (In thought): Every year, I can't escape that song. Can't the radio stations play a different song for once?

  • As Setsuna brings in the box of unused Christmas ornaments, inside the box is a dead mouse. This causes both Fubuki and his mother to make disgusted screams at the sight of it. The kicker is that even Setsuna is Not So Above It All.

  • Fuyusuke's entrance, which is moments after Josuke and his friends wonder what he's like. Contrary to what they expect of Setsuna's husband, he's a lot more of a klutz than everyone expected, causing Fubuki's friends to comically fall over from shock.

  • The Contrived Coincidence during Fubuki opening everyone's gifts, in which it turns out they all got him a CD of The Dark Side of the Moon, and none of them realized they had the same idea. Okuyasu says he included something extra with his', which ends up being a pack of condoms right as Fubuki opens it. Cue awkwardness.
Okuyasu: ...Uh, I just realized it's a bad idea to open it in front of a lot of people. I mean… if you're still open to the idea…
    • The result? Okuyasu gets a now-empty KFC bucket thrown over his head by Fubuki.
    • And as Okuyasu leaves to wash up after removing it, he makes another suggestive quip, forgetting Josuke is still there. This time it ends in some more Amusing Injuries.
Fubuki: You can use the bathroom to clean yourself. There's one upstairs, next to my bedroom.
Okuyasu: Ohhh… next to your bedroom, huh? You're eager to try out my gift, aren't you?
    Josuke: Dude! I'm still here!
Okuyasu: Ohoho, someone's jealous. Well, we're not doing a threesome with you! Unless Fubuki asks… [Gets his foot stomped on by Fubuki] EEOUCH!! Uhhh, I'll just go use the bathroom now… Ow, my foot…
