Fanfic / 200 Years, A Long Wait for Friends

Go To

On the last day of an online game called YGGDRASIL's lifespan, a Lich called Momonga and a Fallen Angel called Enzo are in the guild when the game shuts down, and the whole guild building ends up in another World alongside its NPCs. However, Momonga notices that Enzo is not found anywhere within. Turns out, he had already been in there 200 years earlier than him, even though he spent most of the time sealed in a Rubix Cube. How would this change the trajectory of Ainz Ooal Gown's survivability in the New World?

200 Years, A Long Wait for Friends is a Crossover Fan Fic of Harry Potter and Overlord (2012) by Quatermass where Harry ended up in a coma while his mind is jacked into YGGDRASIL and live his life in the game under the name of Enzo.

Beware of unmarked Spoilers!

The story has the following examples:

    open/close all folders
    A - M
  • Adaptation Name Change:
    • In canon, Momonga changed his name to Ainz Ooal Gown to get it spread far and wide so hopefully, his guild mate found him. Here, he's with Harry, so he has no reason to change it.
    • According to Harry, the Platinum Dragon Lord has extensive knowledge about the YGGDRASIL game, so Ainz Ooal Gown is often referred to by its older name, Nine's Own Goal, in public to hide it because of the reputation & infamy the current name has compared to the old one.
  • Adaptation Species Change: Harry's YGGDRASIL Avatar is a Fallen Angel, and he ended up in his Avatar's body when he was appearing in the New World.
  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: Harry, on top of what he's been through in Canon, gets paralyzed by Voldemort-possessed Ginny and kept hidden for years till his body cannot function normally, having his mind plugged into a computer, then eventually sealed in a Rubix Cube by the betrayal of his teammate in New World for 200 years.
  • Adaptational Angst Downgrade: Despite Harry's Happy Ending Override in the fic, his presence helps many characters who were suffering in the Crapsack World of 2138 and the New World.
    • Momonga doesn't end up being alone when he and Nazarick get transported to the New World, allowing him to better balance his current position as the Supreme Being of Nazarick and keep his human morals intact with Harry acting as his Morality Chain.
    • Antilene Heran Fouche slowly becomes a far less emotional stunt and ashamed of her elf heritage as Harry raises her with kindness and love during the years before Nazarick arrives in the New World, acting much more carefree and outwardly emotional in the present time, and no longer hiding her Pointy Ears behind her sidebangs.
    • Leinas Rockbruise is no longer burdened by her Two-Faced curse thanks to Harry curing it, and gaining closure as she went after her ungrateful family and ex-fiancée.
    • Downplayed with Emperor Jircniv Rune Farlord el Nix as he becomes "less" stressed and paranoid as his position would allow him to be due to bonding and confiding with Harry and learning about the true nature of the "Gods" being originally Players and NPCs of YGGDRASIL. Also, he doesn't experience the betrayal of his Parental Substitute from canon.
    • The Workers group, Foresight, can achieve their own goals thanks to Harry's support and Nazarick's backing when the latter came to the New World. Also, Arche Eeb Rile Furt can finally pay back her parents' debt and successfully escape their abusive household with her younger twin sisters and is Happily Adopted by Harry and Albedo.
  • Adaptational Badass:
    • Harry James Potter is not only a good wizard by the end of his book series, but is now a Fallen Angel in the New World capable of using magic from YGGDRASIL.
    • In the Overlord (2012) canon series, Antilene is already a powerful character by the New World standards (being Level 88), along with possessing a very rare talent that allows her to Power Copy unique skills of those whose equipment she wears, even skills that would otherwise not be available to her class. Maruyama even labels her as "the Overlord of the New World" before Ainz and Nazarick come a-knocking. Here, she gets some major upgrades by having Harry Potter as her adoptive father, such as learning the spells and charms of the Wizarding World and becoming a much more proficient physical fighter. When Nazarick came to the New World, Antilene would often spar with the Denizens to challenge herself and has proven capable of defeating each of The Pleiades (besides Sebas Tian and possibly Aureole Omega) in a one-on-one fight with both parties using only pure skill and innate power.
    • Ramposa III & Zanac charges through Demonic Disturbance on horseback alongside their allies, with the former ending up dueling Jaldabaoth to a standstill, bolstering their reputation.
  • Adaptational Context Change:
    • In canon, Arche has Stress Vomit and is horrified of Ainz after her Aura Vision talent is overwhelmed by the Lich's magic level when he takes off the ring that conceals it. Here, she is in awe of Momonga (Momonga never took off said ring near her), and she mentally acclimated better to his power level after having seen Harry and Antilene before.
    • In Canon, Antilene regret fighting Nazarick NPCs because the constant curb-stomp she received. Here, she finds the fights thrilling, and the constant defeats only motivate her to train to be better.
    • Jircniv's Break the Haughty moment. In canon, it happens after witnessing Ainz, a powerful lich that he assumes to be an ultra-genius that rules with an iron fist, using "Ia Shub Niggurath", summoning 5 Eldritch Abomination Kaijus to destroy Re-Estize Royal faction army, turning him into a Nervous Wreck. Here, he learns that his spy network is not as loyal as he thought and, because he is already friends with Momonga & Harry and knows their true personalities at that point, he merely stresses out while confiding with them on what he & Demiurge learns from interrogating his compromised spies and what the Floor Guardians' Shadow Demons finds out.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance:
    • Harry adopted Antilene and has Leinas as his Sworn Sword, whereas, in canon, they appeared way later.
    • During his time before he was sealed, Harry befriended Keno a.k.a Evileye as he joined The Thirteen Heroes to fight Demon Gods. This also means The Blue Roses appears earlier than canon.
    • Foresight also mentioned and appeared way earlier by them encountering Harry & Albedo on their date when Shalltear hasn't even faced Brain yet.
  • Adaptational Jerkass:
    • Downplayed. While Harry is still the empathetic Nice Guy of his book series, he's become much more hardened and pragmatic after suffering two betrayals in his life (e.g. Ginnymort and the Platinum Dragon Lord) that resulted in him suffering two different And I Must Scream fates.
    • Ulbert Alan Odle from the One-Shot AU titled 200 Years, A Long Wait for Enemies, gets this treatment. In the canon Overlord (2012) series, Ulbert is understandably The Resenter for people who can get ahead in life through hard work due to his own Dark and Troubled Past in the Crapsack World of 2138, leading him to have plenty of spats with Touch Me. While Ulbert still accepts Harry/Enzo within Ainz Ooal Gown despite finding out that he doesn't have a job (thus breaking one of the guild's rules) and with a trust fund (which would be a major Berserk Button considering his own low socioeconomic status with no hope of rising), and also because he was an orphan who lost his parents to terrorists and is forced to be a Child Soldier to fight said terrorists, and later betrayed by his handlers for being a "dangerous liability" by putting him in a medically-induced coma and forever trap him in YGGDRASIL as a "mercy" in the main fic, his one-shot Alternate Self let his own prejudice blinds him to the point of having No Sympathy for Harry/Enzo and started a "witch-hunt trial" to successfully kick him out of Ainz Ooal Gown, and not helping that Momonga also sided with the Black Mage.
  • Adaptational Karma:
  • Adaptational Nice Guy:
    • Aura's Big Sister Bully was toned down after Harry explained to BubblingTeapot that he thinks Aura's being too physical on Mare.
    • While still a Blood Knight, Antilene has become more noble and kind after Harry adopts her and loves her like a proper parent would, taking his more altruistic worldview to heart.
"The strong don't exist to dominate the weak. In fact, even the strong were originally weak. True, most don't have the potential to become that much stronger, or else waste that potential. The strong exist to protect the weak and help them grow strong."
    • Albedo slowly grows more empathetic and kind after Harry, in an attempt to earn her love, slowly opens up to her and shows her his past.
  • Ain't Too Proud to Beg: Harry lets Nigun speak his last words before he kills him. Predictably, he begs for his life, causing Harry to lose interest and let him freefall.
  • And I Must Scream: While Harry cannot die due to becoming The Master of Death, Ginnymort's curse paralyzes Harry's body and keeps him hidden so only the Voldemort-possessed Ginny can take care of him. Years later, when Hermione finds Harry, she tells him that her curse is irreversible. Harry's breakdown during the YGGDRASIL game's last day is due to afraid that he'll be returning to this when the game shut down.
"…What will happen to me after the YGGDRASIL servers shut down? Momonga should be fine, but me? I'm…scared, Albedo. I don't want to go back to lying there, paralyzed, when in this game, I could fly. Not with a broomstick, but with wings! I can't even die anymore."
  • Anxiety Dreams: When Harry first regaled the tales of Ainz Ooal Gown and Nazarick when they met, Arche ended up having a nightmare where Foresight was hired to infiltrate Nazarick and ended up curb-stomped by an enraged Momonga, with her specifically died by Shalltear's hand. Momonga assures her that it's just a nightmare born out of hypotheticals and that if it ever happens, he would definitely regret it.
  • Astonishingly Appropriate Appearance: Harry's current body is a Fallen Angel, and it's rather fitting due to his previous status with messianic overtones in the Wizarding World before he Took a Level in Jerkass after suffering personal betrayals.
  • Backstab Backfire: Hilma pretending to shake Albedo's hand before summoning a snake in an attempt to bite the succubus, only for the snake's fang breaks in its attempt to pierce Albedo's skin.
  • Badass Boast:
    • Harry threatens Nigun and, by extension, those who scry them through him.
"I am going to destroy the Slane Theocracy. Oh, I won't kill its people unless they're anything like you, but you righteous fanatics who claim to think you know what's best for humanity, when in truth, you just want to dominate the world…I'm coming for you."
    • After witnessing Harry's memories, Albedo gives one that is a mix of swearing of her loyalty to him & Momonga and a declaration of love for him.
"My lord…my love…you have but to say the word, and we would grant you and Lord Momonga this world. And even if you do not desire that, but a happy life with us instead, then we would grant you that also with the utmost joy. We will help you take the heads of that treacherous slattern and that decrepit Dragon Lord, and anyone else who has slighted you. Your enemies are my enemies. Your friends are my friends. Your happiness is my happiness."
  • Batman Gambit: Harry & Jircniv expect The Furts to be so greedy that they don't pay attention to the terms & conditions of the contract that let the former adopt their daughters, that breaking it would mean being punishable by a long time in the dungeon or even execution, believing that the former nobles might try to either squeeze Harry for more gold than the agreed amount or even kidnap them to be re-adopted to other families or to be sold to slavery for even more gold.
  • Benevolent Boss: Despite his title of Bloody Emperor, Jircniv lets Leinas quit Four Imperial Knights to work for Harry since she no longer has a reason to stay.
  • Best Served Cold:
    • Momonga mentioned this trope by name when he discusses his and Harry's goal of striking back the Platinum Dragon Lord for sealing Harry for 200 years because the dragon is at least as strong as a Level 100 Player.
"Back home, we have a saying: revenge is a dish best served cold. We will secure our position here in this world, quietly and covertly, before we gather information and allies…and then, we will strike."
    • Antilene also mentioned this trope when she mentions how Harry told her to take her time in planning to kill Decem.
  • Black Comedy: Antilene often delivers it.
    • She teases Albedo for her high chance of becoming her stepmother, before deadpanly muses that the Succubus might actually be an improvement over her birth mother.
    • She compliments Harry for executing Nigun by dropping him from the sky but hates how messy the aftermath is and that she's the one who cleans it up.
"You know how big the splash radius is when you drop someone from that high up?'"
  • Bodyguarding a Badass: Albedo initially mocks Leinas for being Harry's "Sworn Sword" despite the gap in power level between them, but while Leinas admits that fact, she also says that it is a case of I Owe You My Life and a case of the title is just for formality sake, while her real duty is to guard his mansion and be a liaison between Harry and Jircniv.
  • Brain Uploading: Hermione, finally finding him years after Ginnymort paralyzes him, tells Harry that there is no saving his original body, so the only way to keep him alive is to jack his mind into the YGGDRASIL servers. Ainz Ooal Gown members know that he is this, but only know about the cover story as to why.
  • Brainwash Residue: Turns out, there are remnants of Voldemort's magic in Ginny from her constant exposure to Tom Riddle's diary, slowly corroding her mind, allowing Voldemort's soul to possess her body.
  • Bring It: Harry left a message taunting Eight Fingers using enchanted fireworks after he destroyed one of their Black Flour farms.
Eight Fingers, Six Arms, No Balls
  • Calling Out for Not Calling: Keno is infuriated that Harry didn't call her the first time he learns that Nazarick appears in New World, but way later when he needs her help getting Momonga to learn how to be an adventurer, even if he might have a good excuse like keeping the NPCs from rampage. Even a short message would've suffice.
  • Changing Yourself for Love: Albedo, like the rest of Nazarick's NPCs, has her Humans Are Insects and superiority complex. But she is willing to make herself a better person for the sake of Harry, who does care for humans and has a more heroic morality.
  • Children Are Innocent:
    • Zig-Zagged with Aura & Mare. Aura can guess from Antilene's dodging talking about her parents that she was a Child Of Rape, but Mare doesn't until Aura whispers it out for him.
  • Comically Missing the Point: Leinas explains to Momonga that Antilene is a Blood Knight who seeks romance on the battlefield.
Momonga: …I know she's decades old, but legal lolis aren't my thing.
Leinas:…What do lollies have to do with anything?
  • Composite Character:
    • Not only is Enzo The Boy Who Lived but he also has aspects of Satoru Suzuki/Momonga of the AU Overlord Bonus Volume, mainly being sent to the New World 200 years before the main storyline, meeting and bonding with Keno Fasris Invern/Evileye, and becoming an Adoptive Peer Parent. He also has some traces of the alternate Keno Fasris Invern by acting as a Morality Chain to Momonga.
    • Speaking of Momonga, his characterization is now a mix of his canon counterpart and his Alternate Self from the AU Overlord Bonus Volume.
  • The Confidant:
    • As a fellow player stuck in their video game avatar, Momonga often vents to Harry about how out of depth he is and how often he misses his human body. He even asks him to address him as Satoru, his real-life name, privately to prevent his Loss of Identity. Eventually, those who learn of the truth behind The Supreme Being's identity end up becoming this to Momonga as well.
    • Harry also ended up becoming this to Jircniv, as the environment of Baharuth Empire's political landscape means he has few true friends, and since Harry lacks political power and desires to have one, he can safely vent around him.
  • The Corruptor: Remnants of Voldemort's magic from his diary Hocrux have been slowly infecting Ginny's mind, slowly turning her into more like him, which Harry dubs "Ginnymort".
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Its not Overlord (2012) without few of them.
  • Dark and Troubled Past:
    • Keno, as a teenager, ended up destroying her country in an attempt to learn a forbidden spell, which caused her to locks her age as she becomes undead, gaining infamy as "Landfall" from the former, constantly bullied by one of her party members, being told that one of her closest few friends post-immortality committing suicide, and was beaten by her bully to forcefully joins Blue Roses in her stead.
    • Antilene is a child of rape who is treated as such and raised to kill her father by her mother before joining the Slane Theocracy's Black Scripture and tasked as a guard dog to their vault, and treated as such by the scriptures.
  • Deadly Euphemism: Harry warns Demiurge that he & Momonga are the ones in charge of Nazarick, so the Floor Guardian can only torture and experiment on those the two think deserve it. So if Harry finds out that Demiurge is using innocents for his experiments, he will give him some troubles.
  • Death by Adaptation:
    • Nigun died during the Carne Village invasion from Harry dropping him from the sky, as opposed to living long enough to be subjected to Demiurge's tender mercies at Nazarick.
    • A lot of Black Scriptures are killed by Shalltear under Harry's order, including Thousand Leagues Astrologer.
  • Defector from Decadence: Antilena left Slane Theocracy with Harry due to being fed up with their Fantastic Racism-induced mistreatment toward her.
  • Deity of Human Origin: Invoked by Harry's explanation to the characters of the New World regarding the truth of the "Six Gods", the "Eight Greed Kings", etc.
  • Dies Differently in Adaptation:
    • In canon, Kaire died from a non-healable wound inflicted by Shalltear. Here, Harry blows her head with Reducto before taking her corpse, and Downfall of Castle and Country with it.
    • In canon, Decem dies from Antilene caving his chest cavity in after he was brutally injured by Ainz mere moments ago and then killed by her again due to his Auto-Revive. Here, he gets drowned to death by Antilene before she "made sure" by slashing his throat open mere seconds before he came back to life through his Auto-Revive, and then finally a permanent one by Antilene's version of Shurshana's spell, The Goal of Life is Death, through her Talent.
  • Disappointed in You: While expecting it, Harry expresses disappointment toward Albedo for saying that resurrecting the dead victim of Sunlight Scripture's invasion is a waste of resources, even though he already mentioned that he valued human lives to her before.
  • Disney Villain Death: After using Legilimence to scan Nigun's memory and swearing to him that he will destroy Slane Theocracy, Harry lets go of him mid-begging, letting him freefall to his death.
  • Dub Name Change: Bukubukuchagama is referred to by the Yen Press translation name of her Japanese name, "BubblingTeapot", in the fic.
  • Engineered Heroics: Renner asks Demiurge to boost Climb and his associates' popularity, so during the Demonic Disturbance part of Operation Gehena, the NPC kidnaps several people for the young knight to save. While Demiurge follows Harry's instruction to "not harm civilians" by putting these victims to sleep throughout the event, he still does it behind everyone's back, causing a short discord between Blue Roses and Harry off-screen.
  • Even Evil Has Standards:
    • Despite Albedo's specist beliefs and superiority complex of humans, she is greatly appalled by the abuse that the Dursley Family put Harry through in his childhood when seeing his memories for the first time. While this is mainly due to her setting to be madly in love with Harry and being devoted to the Supreme Beings, the fact that she even felt sympathy towards Harry's harsh upbringing despite learning, and being initially disgusted with, his original human form for the first time speaks volumes. This jumpstarts Albedo to slowly overcoming her prejudice as the fic goes on.
    • Again, like all denizens of Nazarick, Narberal Gamma is specist towards humans, and in her case, Narberal would rarely, if ever, refer to them by name and instead, an impressive plethora of insects. This view also extends to humans whom the Supreme Beings respect and befriend (Leinas Rockbruise), love and treat as family (Antilene, so far), and even those who are part human (again, Antilene). However, this doesn't stop Narberal from feeling some sympathy toward humans who have suffered greatly from abuse such as Tuare, though it helps that Tuare shows great dedication in serving Nazarick, even going so far as to call her by name instead of her usual "insect" label. Also, at the very least, she has a begrudging respect for Antilene's superior strength and fighting prowess from their previous spars and ones from the other Pleiades (though it's implied that she's quite sore from losing against a Half-Human Hybrid), along with the fact that she also calls Antilene by her name... only by prompting and in a gritting tone.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good:
    • After saving Carne Village from The Sunlight Scripture, Albedo asks Harry why would he bother to even do that, let alone try to resurrect the dead victims.
    • Demiurge compliments Harry's demands to leave innocent bystanders from Ainz Ooal Gown's plan to fight the Platinum Dragon Lord, seeing it as a scheme to be seen as "liberating heroes".
  • Evil Counterpart: Harry explains that the Platinum Dragon Lord is basically this trope of Touch Me if the latter were to be role-played as a monster hunter who tried to show mercy towards heteromorph players... only to suffer so many betrayals that he decides that all heteromorph players be wiped out.
  • Evil Is Petty: Yes, the Platinum Dragon Lord really did seal Harry in a Rubix Cube.
  • Excellent Judge of Character: Harry is this in Momonga's eyes, as he tells Albedo that if someone who had been betrayed multiple times like Harry put his faith in someone, even a "low-life", then they're trustworthy or at least wise enough to not antagonize him and those he trusts.
  • Experienced Protagonist: Harry has been through the war against Death Eaters before joining Ainz Ooal Gown, and later The Demon Gods before reuniting with Momonga at New World.
  • Fallen Hero: Harry first thought Brain was this after Antilene told him that Brain was last seen joining the Death Spreading Brigade, a group of bandits. Turns out to be a downplayed case; he merely joins them to get stronger before facing Stronnof again and while he didn't participate in their Rape, Pillage, and Burn, he admitted to turning a blind eye to it.
  • False Flag Operation:
    • The Sunlight Scripture strikes Carne Village wearing Baharuth Empire's armor to draw out Stronnof's attention in an attempt to kill him and pin the blame on Jircniv.
    • Then there's Demiurge's Operation Gehenna which is done to boost Darkness' reputation while covering up the rest of Nazarick wiping out Eight Fingers.
  • Family of Choice:
    • Ainz Ooal Gown is a guild that was born to shelter and support the bullied Heteromorph race players and others who don't normally fit in with the world. For that reason, Albedo tells Keno that she's always welcome to Nazarick should she outlive Blue Roses, which the vampire girl appreciates.
    • When Harry laments a bit about missing his old friends back in Wizarding World, Arche promises that, while she and the others cannot replace those that he longs for, he has a family in Ainz Ooal Gown, Foresight & Blue Roses, something they agreed on.
  • Fireworks of Love: On the day of YGGDRASIL about to shut down, after Momonga reset Albedo's personality, she and Harry end up watching fireworks on the roof of Nazarick.
  • Fix Fic:
    • Harry gives Momonga a crash course about the New World's history, geography & politics, plus the Martial Arts that are unique to the New World, so he won't be caught off-guard.
    • The Carne Village invasion ended up having fewer casualties after Harry brought half of them back to life with Resurrection Wand, with Enri & Nemu's parents among them.
    • Thanks to Jircniv's influence, Harry managed to essentially buy Arche & her sisters off their parents, ensuring the latter two won't be mistreated by them anymore.
    • When planning to masquerade as an Adventurers group, Harry suggests Momonga bring Shizu Delta instead of Narberal Gamma with him, for while the latter looks more convincingly human, her Humans Are Insects attitude might draw too much attention toward them and cause friction with other people compared to the former's Emotionless Girl.
    • Fluder did not become Nazarick's mole out of the desire to learn higher-tier magic from Ainz here, because he can ask directly to Momonga due to he and Harry being friends with Jircniv.
    • Due to Enzo also being in charge of Ainz Ooal Gown alongside Momonga and against involving innocents, Demonic Disturbance has a lower amount of casualties as Demiurge mostly puts them to sleep.
  • Flat "What": Momonga has this reaction when Harry tells him that the invading Sunlight Scripture is carrying a summoning crystal containing a Dominion Authority as their trump card.
  • Friendship Trinket: Momonga has a digital watch from BubblingTeapot that has her voice recorded in it to tell time with a... lewd Alternate Character Reading to a certain time.Explaination He decided to hand it over to Aura & Mare as a memento to remember her.
  • Getting Smilies Painted on Your Soul: Harry is worried about this when he learns that Momonga alters Albedo's personality to love him as this, hence his initial rejection of her advances.
  • Good Wings, Evil Wings: As a Fallen Angel, Harry has three sets of black angel wings.
  • Group Hug: Harry receives one from Aura, Mare & Antilene after admitting to the elf twins that he sees them as his children and hopes that they can get along with Antilene, and the Furts girls.
  • Happily Adopted:
    • Harry adopts Antilene out of Slane Theocracy, and she certainly sees him as an improvement over her mother, now that she realizes that his love for her is warmer than her mother's ever gave her. She even tells Decem during their fateful battle in Lancing The Boil that Harry IS her father, not the elf king.
    • As Harry has a hand in creating Aura & Mare, he sees them as his kids with BubblingTeapot, and they feel the same as he tells them that they can address him as father or dad if they want to.
    • Harry effectively adopts Arche, Kuuderika & Ureirika, and Arche certainly thinks that he's a much better parent for the twins.
  • Happiness in Mind Control: Albedo tells Harry that she is glad that Momonga altered her to fall in love with the Fallen Angel because part of the rewrite means that she can feel and express genuine love.
  • Hates Their Parent:
    • While Antilene's hatred toward her father is obvious since he is Decem Hougan (going so far as to mainly refer to him as her "sperm donor", verbally and internally), she also has mixed feelings for her mother for only seeing her as Decem's spawn born of him raping her and a weapon to topple him.
    • Arche hates how obsessive her parents are in trying to regain their noble status, or at least its lifestyle, and hoping to get away from them with her twin sisters.
  • Hey, You!:
    • Justifiably and understandably as it's Decem Hougan, Antilene only calls and refers to her birthfather as a "sperm donor", both verbally and internally.
    • Like her canon counterpart, Narberal Gamma is the only Pleiades to explicitly state that she doesn't bother knowing human names because she thinks it's far beneath her to make the effort to address insects. When she's forced to converse with people, she only uses "you" or something similar. She's even surprised that her fellow Pleiades comrades, even those that eat humans, actually put the effort to learn the names of humans they interact with. The only exception to this rule is Tuare according to Word of God, and in regards to Antilene, she won't say her name unless prompted, and even then, it takes an annoying effort for Nabe to do so.
Antilene: And I didn't hear you greet me, Narberal.
Narberal: *after a moment, gritted her teeth* ...Lady Antilene *in the tone one would normally reserve for a piece of shit smeared on one's shoe*.
  • High-Altitude Interrogation: Downplayed; while Harry carries Nigun high up in the sky, he lets the Legilimence spell do the information gathering for him while putting a silencing charm on him.
  • Humans Are Insects: Just like canon, the Non-Player Characters in Nazarick all hold the view that humans have no inherent worth aside from the people who gained Harry and Momonga's respect and trust. Many will not even bat an eye towards overusing them as livestock, eating them, torturing them For the Evulz, or other horrifying things. Thankfully, Harry's more heroic morality and benevolent guidance prevent them from going down the path of their canon counterparts and some are slowly overcoming their prejudice (Albedo, and arguably Aura and Mare due to them being children) or those with honorable personalities are allowed to express their beliefs (Sebas), mainly out of respect for the Supreme Beings and witnessing the truth of their human origins through Harry's working copy of The Pensieve.
  • Hypocrisy Nod: When Shalltear asks why Harry spared the surviving Black Scriptures members after killing most of them, he admits that, despite admonishing her for sadistically toying with Brain & other adventurers, he, now a Fallen Angel, also has a sadistic streak and the need to toy with his victim.
  • I Just Want to Be Loved: After witnessing Harry's memories, Albedo concludes that his greatest desire is not power or world domination, but to be loved and create a family, just like hers.
  • I Owe You My Life:
    • Leinas gladly serves Harry for she owes him for curing her curse and helping her fulfill her revenge against her ex-fiancée and her ungrateful family.
    • Celica is very grateful to Momonga for not only resurrecting her and bringing justice to Clementine but especially for saving Tuare's life and reuniting them.
  • In Spite of a Nail:
    • Harry's abusive upbringing and subsequent adventures in the Wizarding World still went the same way as the canon book series... until Ginny gets possessed by Voldemort's spirit.
    • Even though Shalltear intentionally seeks Brain, she still toys with him, unleashes her True Vampire form, and massacres a lot of adventurers, causing the swordmaster to be traumatized by her and causing a rumor of a vampire on the loose like in Canon. To keep in line with Momonga's Engineered Heroics in canon and end the rumor, he and Harry decide to sacrifice one of Shalltear's Vampire brides NPCs to be killed as the rumored vampire, and they cannot bring back the dead adventurers she killed lest it brings about suspicion.
    • The Quagua massacre still happens because, instead of testing Nazarick's NPCs in battle, the leader is so affected by Momonga's Despair Aura that he, in panic, commands his army to swarm him and the NPCs he brings.
  • Insecure Love Interest: Because of his past relationship with Ginny, Rigrit's betrayal, and her love for him came from Momonga rewriting her, Harry feels like he didn't deserve Albedo's feelings for him. But, after finding out that Nazarick appears in New World and meets Albedo again after 200 years, rather than declining her advances like before, he asks her if they can take their relationship slow, letting him get to know her as a person instead of an NPC first.
  • Insult Backfire:
    • Clementine shoots an F-Bomb at Harry after a Crucio, which he fires back.
      Clementine: Fuck You!
Harry: Not even with someone else's dick. *Cast a second Crucio*.
    • Leinas didn't take Narberal's disrespect lying down.
Narberal: *Kneels down* My lords, Lady Albedo! *seeing Leinas is still standing up* On your knees, worm!
      Leinas: Worms don't have knees.
  • Internal Reveal:
    • Harry reveals to Momonga that Enzo is not his real name and that he is a Wizard.
    • Several people, like Keno & Jircniv, learn from Harry that he, Momonga, and a lot of great figures from the past, such as the Six Great Gods and the Demon Gods, are actually players and NPCs of a video game from another world.
    • Albedo, and later Aura, Mare, Sebas, Yuri Alpha & Pandora Actor learn that the Supreme Beings are just human, what they look like to them are their game avatars, and why most of them disappear.
    • Momonga discovers that Ninya is actually a girl and her real name is Celica.
    • People manage to learn that Momon, leader of the Darkness adventurer party, is actually a lich named Momonga, either from seeing it for themselves like Celica, or from deductions like Parpatra.
    • Through Legilimence, Harry, Momonga & Albedo discover Renner's true personality earlier than canon.
  • It's All My Fault: Shalltear blames herself for succumbing to her blood rage and killing lots of adventurers instead of recruiting Brain for Ainz Ooal Gown's cause. Harry admits that while she does make a mistake, it is a salvageable one, and they managed to get a World Item from those.
  • Knight in Sour Armor: Harry has been through betrayal twice and been sealed for two hundred years, and he even admits that he has gained a bit of a sadistic streak, but his "saving people thing" is still fully working.
  • Lie to the Beholder: Harry gives Albedo a ring that hides her Succubus features.
  • Living Toys: In Aftermath, Jircniv explicitly refers to the Nazarick NPCs as this trope concerning the absurdity of their true nature from what he learned from Harry and the fact that it would be very annoying that all the things he builds up so far as an Emperor being ruined by them. While Harry implicitly agrees with Jircniv's assessment, he does tell the Emperor that he will not mention what he said to the Nazarick NPCs for obvious reasons.
  • Long List:
    • Apparently, the reason Shalltear is a Depraved Bisexual is that Peroroncino copy-pasted a list of fetishes & paraphilia he's into when creating her.
Albedo: I am honestly astonished at the wide variety of paraphernalia Shalltear has for sexual activity. *nose wrinkling* I may be a Succubus, and I enjoy all manner of acts, but…at least a third of these, I have no idea what they entail.
    • One that's not Played for Laughs is the list of injuries Tuare suffers as Eight Finger's sex slave before she is healed. Momonga warned Celica before reading it for her and the others that it was not for the faint of hearts, and by the time he was done, everyone, even Momonga with his emotion suppressor on, was either appalled or horrified by it.
  • Make an Example of Them: Played with; To assure her obedience, Albedo guides Hilma all over Nazarick's area, including its torture chamber, to show her what would happen if she crossed Momonga & Harry.
  • Mayfly–December Friendship: Downplayed; While Keno is friends with Harry & Momonga, she still fears that she'll outlive the rest of Blue Roses, either from occupational hazard, disbandment, or the simple passage of time.
  • Meaningful Rename:
    • Celica changed her name to Ninya to honor her missing sister, Tuareninya. Now that she manages to be reunited with Tuare, she decides to drop her alter ego.
    • Erya tortured his elf slave whenever they speak their real name so often that speaking it out loud causes them pain, so now they address themselves as Cyan, Magenta & Goldenrod, based on their respective hair colors.
  • Memory Jar: Harry managed to create a working copy of The Pensieve that lets people see his and later Momonga's memories.
  • Morality Chain: Harry becomes this to Momonga as his Confidant, keeping his morality in check.
  • Morality Pet: Harry becomes Albedo's, as she is the Reformed, but Not Tamed kind of turning good. But for Harry's sake, she'll learn how to be a good person.
  • Mundane Solution: Harry and Antilene thought she needed to solve the Rubix Cube to get him out, only to find the seal broke after Antilene threw it out of frustration.
  • Must Make Amends:
    • After she fails not immediately to recruit Brain and sadistically toying with the swordmaster, Shalltear works hard to prove that she is still worthy of the Supreme Being's grace.
    • Brain himself is this, joining Ainz Ooal Gown due to atoning his inaction toward the Death Spreading Brigade while he was part of them.
  • My Master, Right or Wrong: Harry assures Jircniv that Nazarick's NPCs are manageable by Exploiting this; that they are so loyal to him & Momonga that they are willing to do their bidding, even if it goes against their Evil Karma and Humans Are Insects beliefs.
    N - Z
  • Named by the Adaptation: Erya Uzruth's elf slaves are named Cyan, Magenta & Goldenrod.
  • Not Good with Rejection: During their time as The Thirteen Heroes, Rigrit repeatedly made advances toward Harry, which he repeatedly rejected. This caused her to side with the Platinum Dragon Lord to seal him in a Rubix Cube.
  • Old Master: Implied on Hermione. The last time Harry saw her was when she finally found his paralyzed body. He describes her as looking elderly, with eyes hardened like steel.
  • Perfection Is Impossible: Momonga managed to slowly break Albedo's rose-tinted glasses that The Supreme Beings and Nazarick's NPCs are perfect by mentioning both this and It's the Journey That Counts.
"Albedo, there exists the potential for growth in all of us, even the Supreme Beings, even you and your fellow Floor Guardians, even I. Perfection is an ideal to strive for, not a reality. Physical and magical strength are not all that need nurturing, but also of your mind, learning of new perspectives and information. Stagnation and an inability to improve can prove to be the death-knell even of the strong."
  • Point of Divergence:
    • Noticing how melancholic Enzo is and how lonely it must be when he ends up left alone after the YGGDRASIL game shuts down, Momonga rewrites Albedo's personality that she loves Enzo instead of himself.
    • In the intervening years between his freedom from the Rubix Cube and Nazarick's arrival to the New World, he has created plenty of butterfly effects:
      • Harry adopts Antilene and raises her with kindness and love, something that was devoided by her own mother and the people of the Slane Theocracy (except "Aunt" Nazaire). This causes Antilene to be more outwardly emotional and childish, and much more noble, by the time of the main storyline.
      • Harry cures Leinas Rockbruise of her Two-Faced curse, allowing her to not only take revenge against her ungrateful family and her ex-fiancée but also leave her former occupation as one of Jircniv's Imperial Knights and Sworn Sword to aid Harry. However, she still has her connection to the Bloody Emperor and acts as Harry's liaison to him.
      • Harry gains connections with Emperor Jircniv and helps by assassinating certain political enemies. In turn, Jircniv shelters Harry and Antilene within the Baharuth Empire.
      • In addition to Emperor Jircniv, Harry also meets Fluder Paradyne and gains the latter's worship, in all but name, of him (though Harry would much prefer that he didn't) by revealing his true mana pool.
      • At some point, Harry came into contact with Foresight and slowly helped Arche and her younger twin sisters break away from their abusive, Money Dumb parents.
      • At another point, Harry reunites with Keno and gains a connection with the Blue Roses as Keno vouches for Harry's integrity, along with him showing them his memories of Rigrit and the Platinum Dragon Lord's betrayal.
      • Lastly, Harry gives an Internal Reveal to his friends and allies of the previous world he came from along with the so-called "Gods" originally Players and NPCs of a game brought to life upon arriving in the New World. This allows them to be much better prepared and comfortable when Nazarick is transported to the New World by the time of the main storyline.
    • Harry told Shalltear that if she ever needed help, she could always contact him or Momonga, with the latter also mentioning the Theocracy & the possibility that they own World Items. Shalltear remembers this when she realizes that she screwed up and notices that many of her fleeing prey died by unknown forces, causing her to fall back and contact Harry rather than charging in, preventing her canon fate of being brainwashed to oppose Ainz Ooal Gown.
    • Sebas & Solution immediately alerts Momonga & Harry that they might have found Tuare, and later immediately reunited with her sister. this lets her stay in Nazarick for her safety, while Harry asks one of the Mimic NPCs to copy her appearance as bait in case Eight Fingers tried to kidnap her again, which they did.
  • The Power of Love: By rewriting Albedo's personality to fall in love with Harry, Momonga gives her the ability to feel and express true love, which allows her to overcome her Humans Are Insects and other evil traits because, from what she experiences in Harry's memories in Penesieve, she realizes that Harry is the happiest when he's helping people and everyone he cares about is safe and happy.
Dumbledore had often espoused love as the most powerful magic of them all. And while the old fool had been naïve, it was true that sometimes, love could work miracles. And here, it worked a veritable miracle.
  • Pragmatic Villainy:
    • Momonga explains to Albedo that there are values in protecting and allying with humans to establish Ainz Ooal Gown in New World, even if it's just intel, and that they cannot risk making enemies, because the Platinum Dragon Lord by himself is already a great adversary. No need to give him allies through Enemy Mine.
    • To prevent Demiurge from kidnapping people for his experiments, Harry makes a deal with Jircniv to have him ship Baharuth Empire's worst criminals to Nazarick to be used as the 7th-floor Guardian's lab rats.
    • Albedo decides that she'll do her best to become the Furts girls' mother to make Harry happy and to one-up their human birth parents in parenting superiority.
  • Pride Before a Fall: This happens to Decem Hougan in Lancing The Boil. Upon engaging his daughter, Antilene, in battle, he starts off by using his Summon Magic to bring forth his Behemoth (a Level 87 Primal Earth Elemental), only to be unknowingly affected by Antilene's silent casting of Condemn Heretic and Denounce Heretic Mana Drain spells to force Decem to use more magic than intended. Then, Harry, Aura, and Mare made their appearance after the former cast off the cloaking magic and kept the Behemoth occupied, something that greatly surprised Decem as he wasn't able to sense them with his 4th-tier active spell, Tremor Sense. Then, as he and Antilene fight one-on-one, not only does Decem find his attacks (physical and magical) getting countered by Antilene in every way, but he's completely unprepared to deal with the spells that were taught to her by Harry (the man she sees and claim to Decem as her true father, much to his displeasure), such as the Incendio charm (to break free of his tree branch restraints) and gets repeatedly hit with the Cruciatus Curse (Crucio) (one of the three Unforgivable Curses in the Wizarding World, mind you), forcing him to feel agony for what might be the first time in his life.
  • Rage Breaking Point:
    • Harry initially only intends to bring Clementine to be tortured by Demiurge, but seeing how she collects adventurer tags as Battle Trophy, he decides to give her a taste of pain through two casts of Crucios.
    • Arche knows how her parents are quite the Money Dumb and too obsessed over regaining their old status, but she thinks that they are Not Worth Killing. When she finds out that they are planning to send other Worker groups to Nazarick to kidnap her and the twins so the three can be either re-adopted to other family or sold into slavery to feed their lavish lifestyle, she has a breakdown and decides that they can rot in Jircniv's dungeon for all she cares.
  • Rasputinian Death: Decem Hougan suffers this from Antilene near the end of their fateful battle in Lancing The Boil. After she repeatedly hits Decem with Crucio, she then uses Legilimency to straight-up Mind Rape him to the point where he's psychologically reduced to the mind of an infant and causing him to soil himself. Then, in his new infantile state, he innocently triggers Antilene by calling her "mama", leading his daughter to drown him to death by thrusting his head into the water fountain as he should've been drowned at birth in Antilene's opinion. And then, to make sure he's dead, Antilene Double Taps by slitting his throat open with Charion's Guidance before pushing his body back into the fountain water that's now contaminated by his piss and feces... just as he was resurrected by his active 10th-tier spell, "Mercy of Shorea Robusta", forcing him to choke on a mixture of his own blood and the filthy water through his open wound. By this point, Decem is only hanging on to life by a thread and Antilene finally performs the coup de grâce by using Shurshana's spell, The Goal of Life is Death through her Talent.
  • "Reason You Suck" Speech:
    • Harry leaves one to Nigun after using Legilimence to read his memories.
"No. You do not get to speak, not anymore. You want to plead for mercy? Did your victims get it from you when they plead for it? I've seen inside your mind, and you're just a pathetic little peon of a bunch of xenophobic bastards who would prefer extermination to co-existence, and even then, you'd only allow other humans to live if they followed your vile creeds. And I am also going to make sure that you cannot be resurrected."
    • An another to Black Scriptures in general.
Harry: The Theocracy has had its day. Saving humans at the expense of all else, and even turning on your own kind…you disgust me.
Black Scripture Captain: We do all we do to keep humanity safe.
Harry: "No. You do so only to keep the Theocracy safe. You're scum…and scum exists only to be cleaned away. You can't even clean up your own messes *looks at Quaiesse* Like your own sister. You must be proud that you raised such a psychopath…Quaiesse Hazeia Quintia. Rest assured…if she ever has the misfortune to meet me, I will put Clementine down like the rabid bitch she is.
  • Reformed, but Not Tamed: Harry is trying to Invoke this to Nazarick's NPCs as, thanks to him having Took a Level in Jerkass, he has less issue with their Karma and more of how to channel their evil behavior to something he finds less objectionable.
  • Reluctant Ruler: As the daughter of Decem Hougan, Antilene has more than enough rights to challenge him for his throne, but she doesn't want to because she doesn't think she can lead the elves properly. However, after seeing how Erya's ex-slaves were treated and remembering that Decem can be as cruel if not worse, she decides to at least kick him off his role as the king and kill him so the elves no longer suffer under him.
  • Replacement Goldfish: Defied; Harry assures Aura & Mare that neither Antilene nor the Furts girls are meant to replace them. He just wishes to have a large family, even if none of his kids are related to him by blood.
  • Secret Identity:
    • To Ainz Ooal Gown members, Harry's name is Enzo, a terrorist had murdered his parents, and he had been, effectively, forced to fight said terrorists as a child soldier, only to end up in a medically induced coma by his handlers, as they deemed him too dangerous, and in a fit of mercy, they hooked him up to YGGDRASIL server.
    • In New World, Harry refers to himself as Hal, a magic caster from Arwintar and a member of a foreign guild called Nine's Own Goal.
  • Sneeze Cut: Played for Laughs. When Harry mentions that there are a lot of noble & royal idiots who are more than likely to provoke Nazarick, a lot of Re-Estize's sneezes to the point that Phillip wonders if Hay fever is kicking in.
  • Something Only They Would Say: Harry asks Momonga several questions to see if it's really him. This includes a trick question of why Momonga dresses Pandora Actor in Spetzna uniform, making the lich correct him that it's actually a Neo-Nazi uniform he has seen before.
  • So Proud of You: Some NPCs, like Shalltear, ask Harry if their creator would be proud of them if they could see them, and Harry assures them that they would and that they would've joined them to New World if they learn that their creations become real or just the fact that another world does exist.
  • Spared by the Adaptation:
    • By getting the right to raise Arche and her sisters, Kuuderika & Ureirika avoided their canon fate of being overworked to death as slaves.
    • Ninya, a.k.a. Celica, managed to get resurrected after Clementine's massacre.
    • As an ally of Harry, team Foresight did not participate in the Nazarick Raid.
    • After spying on them, Harry & Momonga spare Dragon Hunt during the Nazarick raid after they learn that, while every raiding Worker is also contracted to abduct the Furts girls instead of just raiding the tomb, Parpatra shows more hesitation to act on it.
    • In Can't Kill You, Still Need You fashion, Hilma ended up working under Ainz Ooal Gown due to Harry & Momonga need the connection she built as Eight Finger's head of trade department, avoiding the torture her Canon self received.
  • Stargazing Scene: This happens a lot, with Momonga noting that he had never seen stars before due to Earth's pollution in his previous world and how jealous Blue Planet must be that Momonga gets to see it and he's not.
  • Take Me Instead: Harry, as Hal, offers to Stronnof that he'll face Sunlight Scripture in his stead.
  • Technology Uplift: Momonga is planning to bring modern advancements to the New World, but he assures Arche that he'll keep it from going overboard and repeating Earth's fate.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Out of everyone back in Ainz Ooal Gown, Harry likes Ulbert the least, for he thinks the goat avatar player is too obsessed in depicting Ainz Ooal Gown as a "Lair of monsters".
  • Third-Party Peacekeeper: One of Harry's roles back at YGGDRASIL is to keep spats from getting out of control, from between Touch Me & Ulbert to BubblingTeapot & Peroroncino.
  • Time Dilation: While Harry & Momonga disappear from Earth at the same time, Harry ends up in the New World 200 years earlier than Momonga.
  • Trauma Button: Due to her experience being Eight Finger's sex slave, Tuare unfortunately has plenty of this, including smelling the cleaning agent used to clean Nazarick due to witnessing a rebelling sex slave being killed by being forced to drink it.
  • Tyke-Bomb: After spending a few years with Harry, Antilene realizes that her mother raised her as a tool to kill her father, as bastard as he is and as beneficial her strength from it was, isn't exactly a good thing, since it also making her a Consummate Professional with Lack of Empathy. She does her best to undo these bad traits.
"I'm not that much of a warrior, honestly. I don't go in for that honor or warrior's code crap. If I need to kill something, I kill it. If they deserve pain in the process, then I give it to them. [...] Honestly, I have a lot of baggage to unload."
  • Underestimating Badassery: Clementine scoffs in disbelief when Harry mentions that he kills multiple members of Black Scripture.
  • Villain with Good Publicity: Harry & Momonga try to invoke this while planning on how to deal with the Platinum Dragon Lord.
Momonga: We want the world to look at us favorably when we do so. We will have them cheer us as liberating heroes, not as conquering, destroying monsters.
  • Villainous Breakdown:
    • Nigun is so terrified of being literally dropped dead that he ends up begging Harry to spare him the moment he turns off the silencing charm.
    • Clementine also has a furious breakdown when Harry easily beats her by using magic, whining about how it is cowardly before yelling in disbelief he mentions that he is stronger than Antilene before Harry cast silencing charm on her.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: Antilene and Leinas are pretty much this.
Leinas: As I recall, you were the one covered in blood, brat, until you used that spell your father taught you to clean it off.
Antilene: Brat? I'm several decades older than you, Rockbruise! And more powerful than you!
Leinas: You look like a kid, and still act like one. *Smirks* Besides, it riles you up. Who would've thought that the Slane Theocracy's trump card looked and acted the way you did?
  • What If?: Quatermass creates a One-Shot AU titled 200 Years, A Long Wait for Enemies, where Harry was kicked out of Ainz Ooal Gown by Ulbert & Momonga due to having a trust fund, breaking the guild's rule that members must be someone with a job. This resulted in Harry becoming antagonistic with Ainz and ending up in a relationship with Clementine, becoming her Morality Chain.
  • Who Wants to Live Forever?: Momonga asked Keno how she copes with suddenly gaining immortality, considering that he's a former human stuck in his video game player avatar which is a Lich. She answers with great difficulty as she tells him her story. But she claims that Momonga might have it easier than her since he has Nazarick & the NPCs, averting the worst part of Mayfly–December Friendship.
  • You Remind Me of X:
    • The reason Harry tries his best to help Arche is because of how similar she is to Hermione; a magical prodigy whose potential was held back due to circumstances.
    • Harry also adopted the Furts girls because he experienced what it's like to live with uncaring older relatives.
    • Harry keeps his distance from BubblingTeapot because the pink slime reminds him too much of Ginny before she was possessed by Voldemort and paralyzed his real body.
    • Momonga sees Foresight as how Ainz Ooal Gown used to be before their decline; a Ragtag Bunch of Misfits that bond together despite other's low opinion of their group (Foresight is a Workers group while Ainz Ooal Gown consists of non-human Race players).
  • Your Head A-Splode: Harry kills Kaire by casting Reducto on her head, resulting in this.
