"How lucky I have been, to be associated with two of the most successful series in television history. Keeping Up Appearances was a wonderful break. And what a difference between the two roles. Emmet could not have been a bigger contrast to Clive. A complete opposite. So, that helped me break away and create someone new. I loved every moment of Keeping Up Appearances (as I did with Hi-de-Hi!) and as a cast we got on so well."

David Griffin (born 19 July 1943) is an English actor best known for playing Clive Dempster in Hi-de-Hi! and Emmet Hawksworth in Keeping Up Appearances.

His film role was in 1960 in A French Mistress which was followed by further films such as The Fifth Form at St. Dominic's, Outbreak of Murder, and Quick Before They Catch Us. In 1969, he appeared in Battle of Britain as Sergeant Pilot Chris, while on TV he had guest roles in Dixon of Dock Green and Z Cars.

He joined the cast of Hi-de-Hi! in Series 6 to fill the hole left after Simon Cadell's departure. His character was a polar opposite to Cadell's - while Jeffrey was shy, reserved, and had no people skills, Clive was a sly, charming playboy. Griffin remained for the end of the series and would later tour with co-star Su Pollard in The Good Sex Guide on stage.

In 1991, he joined the cast of Keeping Up Appearances in Series 2, as Emmet, Elizabeth's brother. Griffin's addition to the show was widely seen as a good move, and he would appear in 37 episodes of the series.
