* TheCameo: When David takes part in a "celebrity" blind date at a night club, he's joined by RealLife z-listers Howard Brown known as the "extra man" after appearing in a few (at the time) well-known adverts for the Halifax building society and Paul "Bubble" Ferguson a former Series/BigBrother contestant .

* FreudianTrio: During the celebrity dating show, Bubble is the Id (making rude innuendo and tongue-in-cheek chauvinistic remarks), Howard Brown is the Superego (the refined, well-spoken accountant), and David Brent is the Ego (or rather, he constantly tries to be both the Id and the Superego depending on which he thinks will make him more popular).

** The first scene between David and Gareth shows how the dynamic of their relationship has changed. Gareth is more assertive with David and no longer a ProfessionalButtKisser (to David, at least). He also reveals with some relish how David begged for his job back and then wasted his redundancy money.
** By contrast, the first scene between Tim and Gareth reveals that their relationship has not changed at all. Tim still winds him up and plays pranks on him, but he no longer has Dawn to join in.
* HintDropping: Gareth drops non-very-subtle hints that David shouldn't keep turning up at the office unannounced, but David tries to brush it off with lame jokes and pretending to be ObliviousToHints.

Part 1 of the Series/TheOfficeUK Christmas special, which ended the series. Three years after the original documentary aired, BBC cameras return to Wernham Hogg. David Brent is now a sales rep for a cleaning company and makes celebrity appearances. He is still a frequent visitor to the office, where Gareth is now manager. Lee and Dawn are living in Florida and Tim has a new deskmate.

!!Tropes:
* ChristmasSpecial: It's set over Christmas.
* ChuckCunninghamSyndrome: Rachel is no longer working at the office but there is no explanation.
* TheDogBitesBack: After previously being David's ButtMonkey and NumberTwo, now he is manager Gareth no longer sucks up to him and purposely embarrasses him at one point.
* EpicFail: David's single cost him £42,000 to record and failed to reach the top 100, selling only 150 copies.
* TheIllegal: Dawn and Lee are revealed to have overstayed their visa in the US and are still living there, making a living by doing odd jobs for cash in hand.
* NoodleIncident: Between episodes David sued Wernham Hogg after being made redundant and got a cash settlement from them. He also had a (brief) music career and released a single.
* ThePrankster: Tim is still playing pranks on Gareth and locks him in his office.
* SuspciouslySimilarSubstitute: Anne for Gareth. Tim has another obnoxious person to share his desk with.
* TheThingThatWouldNotLeave: Three years after being made redundant, David still regularly shows up at the office.
