* IronicEcho: The final act begins with Poe ordering Finn to "Retreat! That's an order!", the same order he was given in the first act. He finallly realizes that a HeroicSacrifice is only worthwhile if it ''saves'' people, not if if it just destroys ''one'' piece of enemy equipment.

* BigDamnHeroes: The ''Millennium Falcon'', when it comes to Rose's aid on Crait when she is tailed by three TIE fighters.

** Rey starts training with her staff before spotting the lightsaber in her pack and realizing that, if she wants to be a Jedi, she should familiarize herself with it. We see her start with getting the feel for the weight of it then doing precise strikes to learn how it moves and stops, before to a series of impressive, broad swings. All of this calls to mind Shii-Cho, the earliest and least effective lightsaber combat form, which was later supplanted by superior and more specialized forms, but which is still used as the earliest form for lightsaber training precisely because it accomplishes what Rey is trying to do.

* PayEvilUntoEvil: When their capture on Cantonica seems imminent, Finn remarks to Rose that it was WorthIt to let the fathiers stampede through Canto Bight because it made the rich war profiteers hurt. Rose disagrees with this.

* AceCustom: Poe Dameron's T-70 X-wing fighter ''Black One'' comes equipped with a large booster engine that allows the already nimble fighter to go ''very fast''. In the hands of [[AcePilot Poe]], he evades the dreadnought turbolasers like they're not even there and take out almost all of their surface cannons before they could even know what hit them.

** Admiral Holdo, in order to prevent any more transports from being destroyed by the ''Supremacy''[='=]s long range guns after DJ decrypts the transports' cloaking, points the ''Raddus'' towards the First Order fleet and activates its hyperdrive, ramming the ''Supremacy'' at FTL-speed and causing a spectacular chain reaction that cuts Snoke's flagship in two and spreads debris around, destroying most of the escorting Star Destroyers.

* WeHaveReserves: Subverted. Poe's hotheaded tendencies lead to the destruction of all of the Resistance bombers and half of their fighters in order to destroy a single First Order destroyer. Because he failed to evaluate the reserves held by each side, Poe snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

* OldMaster: Luke has to rediscover hope thanks to Rey badgering him. Yoda plays the trope straight for Luke.

** A recluce who cut himself off from the Jedi and cynically tells a younger Jedi about the failures of the Jedi in a grough tone. Are we talking about Luke Skywalker or [[VideoGame:StarWarsKnightsOfTheOldRepublic Jolee Bindo]]?

** Ramming one large ship into another at lightspeed is a sure way to take out even capital ships like the ''Supremacy'' and the surrounding fleet. But as discussed in [[Film/TheRiseOfSkywalker the next film]], this is an ''extremely'' costly move that also destroys the ship used to attack. The only reason Holdo (who eventually gets the attack named after her) does it is because [[GodzillaThreshold it's a last-ditch effort to keep the First Order off of the Resistance's backs]].

* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: It briefly seems that DJ will be a new Han Solo, only taking Rose's pendant for use in the escape scheme. Unfortunately...

** DJ turns out to be a consumate thief and liar, only out for himself. While he returns Rose's pendant, he sells out the Resistance by revealing their plans to the First Order in exchange for a crate of cash.
