* MarriedToTheJob:What's her first reason for turning down Zagreus? A relationship would cut into time she could spend on work.

* OldShame: Apparently, Dusa doesn't want to talk about her past life. As it's implied she was Medusa, the gorgon that, by most accounts, killed people for fun, one can understand her wanting to distance herself.

* PlatonicLifePartners: Or rather, "Best Friends For Eternity!" in their own words. The game treats it just the same as Zagreus' romantic partnerships with Megaera and Thanatos.

* ImAHumanitarian: Apparently Polyphemus still hasn't learned his lesson about eating humans (or gods with human appearances, in Melinoë's case). He even freely admits that he missed eating human flesh.

He even freely admits that he missed eating human flesh.flesh, and in the area just after his fight you can see piles of dead humans on large tables, implying he's taken advantage of Ephyra's sacking to snack on the corpses left in Chronos' wake.

You need to beat Chronos to unlock the incantation, also the incantation requires Z-sand, which you get from beating Chronos

* TheFourthWallWillNotProtectYou: If you attempt to [[spoiler: pause the game during his boss fight, Chronos hijacks the pause menu and mocks you before reiterating that ''he'' controls time, then proceeds to casually '''unpause the game'''. However, after fighting him the first time, the player can unlock an incantation that overrides his control, turning him into more of an impatient FourthWallObserver whenever you pause the game.]]

You only need to beat her once to get "I'm gonna claw out your eyes"

* VillainSong: "Coral Crown", which she and her band play during their boss fight. It's a VariableMix too, as taking out different members of the band will make the song change to reflect their absence. After enough defeats, she makes a more spiteful DissTrack against Melinoë, "I Am Gonna (Claw Out Your Eyes Then Drown You To Death)" that can sometimes switch out with Coral Crown.

* SeaMonster: Naturally. Along with Scylla, Charybdis is one of the earliest and best known examples of this trope in literature. In game, it appears as a huge, multi-eyed octopus-like monster inside a whirpool.

* TheDreaded: Like in Literature/TheOdyssey, mortal sailors are terrified of this thing. The only advice Odysseus gives about it is to "avoid it at all costs".
* EyesDoNotBelongThere: Its body is surrounded by eyes.

* AccidentalMisnaming: He seems to think Melinoë is named "Laurel", despite her repeatedly clarifying otherwise. Given how much attention he claims he receives, he doesn't seem to distinguish Melinoë from his many other suitors.

Given how much attention he claims he receives, he doesn't seem to distinguish Melinoë from his many other suitors. [[spoiler:This is the first hint that Echo means ''something'' to him, as just referring to an echo offhandedly is enough to make him snap at Mel not to mention the nymph's name again.]]

* PunnyName: His Keepsake the Aromatic Phial is one letter off from being the Aroma''n''tic Phial, and given the only person he truly loves is himself, few other items would be more fitting.

* WorldsMostBeautifulMan: It's certainly not his personality that's getting him all those suitors, so maybe he has a genuine reason to be so obsessed with his own reflection.

* MightyGlacier: He hits really hard but is equally slow, making weaving in between his attacks to claim kills of your own a lot easier than it is during similar contests with Nemesis.

Here, Charybdis is a random, unrelated monster residing in the Rift of Thessaly while Scylla rocks out in the underworld. She is at least aware of Charybdis' existence however, and going by Odysseus' comments on his journey, the encounter likely played out the same.

* AdaptationalAttractiveness: Classical depictions of Scylla vary in appearance, though a prevalent one born from ''Literature/TheOdyssey'' frames her as a six-headed beast with vile, toothy maws on each face. This version of Scylla leans more into a CuteMonsterGirl approach with a more humanoid figure and softer -if still monstrous - features thanks to the game's cartoony art style.

* DidYouJustRomanceCthulhu: Apparently among his suitors were either those who got blessings from the gods ''or the gods themselves,'' as one of his second-hand gifts for Mel is a divine blessing, which includes a random boon. This can include [[MsFanservice Aphrodite]], [[WomanScorned Hera]] and [[HappilyMarried Hephaestus]].

* ItsAllAboutMe: But of course, who else would think this? He doesn't give Melinoë his items out of the simple kindness of his heart, he gives her second hand junk from his admirers in order to shoo her away since she won't fall in with the Shades crowding and fawning over him.
* {{Jerkass}}: Zigzagged. While he is self-absorbed and thoughtlessly arrogant to a positively comical extent, he is not heartless and does treat others with courtesy even if they are not his suitors. If people do not like him, he simply asks them to leave him be and even offers gifts he doesn't need. [[spoiler:Furthermore, when he learns that he had accidentally hurt Echo by rejecting her feelings, he tries to comfort her by telling Melinoë to let Echo know that he hopes she finds someone who can love her like he does himself so she may move on. ]]

He doesn't give Melinoë his items out of the simple kindness of his heart, he gives her second hand junk from his admirers in order to shoo her away since she won't fall in keeps pestering him. However, this ends up becoming downplayed; he's obsessed with himself, yes, but he is aware of others and doesn't care if they don't think of him as he does. He'd prefer the Shades crowding shades surrounding him to leave him to enjoy his own company alone, he's polite to Mel, and fawning over him.
[[spoiler:he eventually comes to regret his poor treatment of Echo when separated from his reflection.]] Most of his cruel behaviour comes from being unable to see beyond himself and accidentally hurting others with his words.

* AnsweringEcho: The TropeNamer; Mel is the one to greet her upon their first meeting, only for Echo to repeat the last few words of her greetings. She properly introduces herself by revealing that she can warp Mel's words to say something else, for instance turning "I am Melinoë... Do I hear an echo?" into "I am... Echo... Echo... Echo..."
