When Frasier and Niles learn that Martin is planning on proposing to Sherry, their insecurity about the whole ordeal leads them to discover an interesting thing that Sherry was supposedly hiding.
Tropes:
- Comically Missing the Point: Frasier, when Daphne finds an engagement ring in Martin's room:Daphne: I found a ring in your father's underwear drawer.
Frasier: (in shock) What on earth would leave a ring around his underwear drawer? - Digging Yourself Deeper: Daphne frets that if Sherry marries Martin, her first order of business will be to fire Daphne. Niles hastens to reassure her:Niles: I could always use you. (realizing) I-I would know of a position you could take... services that you could perform... I would know of an opening... (grabs the check) This is on me.
- Everyone Knew Already: Martin was actually informed by Sherry that she was married previous times before. He neglected to put his sons in the loop about it due to them having no business knowing about it.
- Locked Out of the Loop: Martin deliberately kept everyone else in the dark about Sherry's previous marriages, mostly on account of the fact that they had no business knowing about it.
- Oblivious to Her Own Description:Daphne: That's typical of you two. Your father is about to get married and all you two can think about is how it will affect you... What about me?!
- What the Hell, Hero?: Frasier rounds on Niles for hiring a detective to snoop into Sherry's past rather than just letting his father be happy.
