"Don't stare at me, I'm on duty"
Pyongyang Racer is a North Korean "racing" game released on December 18th, 2012. It basically consists of the player driving around Pyongyang, alone, checking out the various sights, while being berated by a North Korean police officer. That's it. There are no opponents, no stunts, no items. There's a timer, but in the early days, there was no leaderboard — the only way to know how well you did was to e-mail the company.
It caught on outside its home country mainly as a novelty, but it was way more popular than expected — so much so that the unexpected traffic crashed the website that hosted it. After quite a while offline, it went back up with a working leaderboard, and can be found here.
This game provides examples of:
- Blatant Lies: Contrary to what the officer says, you can drive on the wrong side of the road.
- Drives Like Crazy: This trope is penalized. If you drive recklessly and hit other cars, you will fail the game.
- Rule of Three: If you hit three vehicles, you fail the game for reckless driving.
- What the Hell, Player?: The cop constantly berates the player's driving ability, telling them that they shouldn't even be on the road.
