This episode contains examples of the following tropes:
- Admiring the Abomination: Even though Team Rocket are the bad guys, Clemont and Sycamore can't help admiring the Mega Mega Meowth Mecha.
- Attack Its Weak Point: After Mega Blaziken smashes open Mega Mega Meowth, Pikachu and Chespin hit the core, causing it to overheat and explode, which also blasts off Team Rocket as always.
- Attack Reflector: Mega Mega Meowth can reflect Pikachu's electric attacks.
- Big Damn Heroes: Once again, Mega Blaziken comes to the rescue of the heroes from the Mecha Meowth.
- Borrowed Catchphrase: Serena and Bonnie start a mock Team Rocket motto when confronting them. But the angry trio cut them off.Jessie: Twerp thieves!
James: Copyright infringement! - Bound and Gagged: Professor Sycamore, Serena and Bonnie by Team Rocket.
- Curbstomp Battle: Mega Mega Meowth can not even be dented by Pikachu and Chespin. Reversed against Mega Blaziken that turns it into char with one attack.
- Cut the Juice: Clemont tries to stop the Mega Mega Meowth by pulling out its power cord. Unfortunately, it has an auxiliary generator.
- Evil Knockoff: Apparently, the Rockets think that their newest Humongous Mecha can pass for a Mega Evolution.
- Follow Your Nose: Chespin leads Ash and Clemont behind Team Rocket by tracing the trail of Poké Puffs that Serena and Bonnie left.
- Humongous Mecha: Mega Mega Meowth.
- Nails on a Blackboard: Meowth does this to make Professor Sycamore talk.
- Overly Long Gag: James' obsession with the word Mega during the prologue, which was only cut off by the credits.
