Belgrieve was once an aspiring adventurer in his youth, until his dreams were cut short when he lost his leg to a monster, and he returned to his home village of Tornela. A few years after his return, he found an abandoned child in the nearby woods and adopted her, naming her Angeline. Seventeen years later, he has become well respected by the locals as the protector of the village and a teacher to the children, but he misses Angeline, who had left a few years previously to become an adventurer herself.

• Badass Normal: Despite losing a leg earlier in his life and his advancing years, Belgrieve is not to be underestimated in a fight, easily able to hold his own with most opponents. This comes from maintaining a rigorous training regime even after the loss of his leg, combined with the wisdom he's gained over his life. That said, Belgrieve's not nearly the Invincible Hero that Ange's built up in her head and spread in tales, and his attempts to correct people on this (as well as some lucky circumstances on his side) make them think he's merely being a Humble Hero.
• Badass on Paper: Played with. While Belgrieve is definitely not as strong as Ange believes him to be (and has told everyone else that he is), he's also much more competent than he seems to give himself credit for, able to stand up to some seriously dangerous monsters despite his wooden leg.
• Break His Heart to Save Him: After Angeline comes home, Belgrieve is initially very happy to see her and her friends, but he soon grows very concerned that she may have grown arrogant in her attitude towards danger, something that could very easily get her killed, and fears that it may have come about from him spoiling her too much. To correct this, he has himself and Ange duel and piles on emotional pressure for her to take it seriously despite her increasing confusion and distress, with Belgrieve hating himself for this but believing it would be the best for her safety. It seems to work as she gets serious and is about to land a finishing blow on him... before she turns it into a tackle hug with her crying. Realizing his fears were largely unfounded and that Ange can hold her own, Belgrieve admits he didn't mean what he said before and affirms he still loves her, much to Ange's relief.
• Fiery Redhead: Averted. While we don't really know what he was like when he was young, present day Belgrieve is very calm and collected.
• Good Parents: Raised Angeline to the best of his abilities, despite some struggles at first. Their relationship was a very loving one, with neither caring about not being blood related, and he taught her all he knew about being an adventurer when she showed interest in that path and about survival in general.
• Handicapped Badass: Belgrieve lost his leg over 20 years ago, putting an end to his adventuring career. Despite this, he's never stopped keeping in shape and honing his fighting skills, making him a fearsome warrior despite a wooden peg leg.
• Humble Hero: Despite the praise heaped upon him by Angeline and those around him, he remains humble about his abilities, recognizing his weaknesses and preferring to support others over himself. This stems from his personal experiences from the incident that cost him his leg, leaving him fully aware that no one is invincible.
• Papa Bear: If something threatens Ange, Belgrieve won't hesitate to step in and defend her regardless of the danger involved, such as when he stood up to the Snow Queen when Ange was very young.
• Pragmatic Hero: While generally a kind and noble soul, experience has taught Belgrieve that an adventurer shouldn't be afraid to use underhanded tactics in a fight for your life, especially if others' lives are on the line as well. When we first see him, Belgrieve saves a villager from being mauled by a giant bear monster by tossing an improvised tear gas grenade (basically a bag stuffed with ground onions and pepper) at the monster's face before striking at its vitals while it's distracted.
• Red Baron: Thanks to Angeline's (somewhat exaggerated) tales of his strength, Belgrieve ends up getting the nickname of "The Red Ogre", much to his embarrassment (as such nicknames are given to adventurers who are recognized to have contributed a lot to society, so to him it feels like an unearned award or medal).
• Refusing the Call: When asked by Ange if he would move to Orphen to live with her, he has to decline, saying Tornela is too important to him to leave behind, even for Ange. Ange, after a moment of thought, realizes that Belgrieve and Tornela are inseparable in her mind, respecting her father's decision.
• When You Coming Home, Dad?: Generationally inverted and downplayed. While Belgrieve does miss Ange after a 5 year absence and hopes she can visit soon, he's coping with her absence much better than Ange is with not seeing Belgrieve.

Angeline, or Ange as she's known to her friends, was found by as an abandoned child by Belgrieve, who took her in and raised her as his daughter. After hearing stories of adventurers, and being taught the practical skills needed for adventurers by Belgrieve himself, Ange left her home at the age of twelve to become adventurer. By the age of seventeen, she has become a S-Rank adventurer in the town of Orphen, where she is known as the "Black Haired War Maiden." Despite her success, she wants nothing more than to see her father again after a long absence, a goal that's proving difficult to achieve as various duties and obstacles pop up that prevent her from leaving.

• The Ace: Ange is a S-Rank adventurer, which is considered effectively a hero by societal standards, alongside her two fellow party members. As goofy as she looks, the moment she gets serious, nothing stands in her way shortly after.
  • Even as a child she was quite gifted, being able to do most tasks given to her on the first try (such as finding a specific plant for the first time). Belgrieve notes to himself that with such a high comprehensive ability at a young age, it's no surprise she became an S-Rank adventurer.
• Aloof Dark-Haired Girl: Her dark hair is one of her most notable features, giving her the nickname of "Black Haired War Maiden" and she tends to be pretty stoic most of the time unless the subject of her father comes up, which can bring out her childish side in good and bad ways.
• Chronic Hero Syndrome: Ange can never ignore people in trouble, resulting in her always being busy with jobs and not having enough time to go back home to her father.
• Daddy's Girl: Ange adores her father to the point she buffs up his abilities and reputation in her mind, which she in turns tells anyone in earshot, becoming moody and throwing a tantrum when her vacation plans to visit him are interrupted.
• Deuteragonist: She's the second leading protagonist.
• Fighter, Mage, Thief: Ange is the frontline fighter of the party, keeping the enemy engaged with the assistance of their archer Anessa while their mage Milliam casts a spell to finish them off (at least whenever Ange can't finish off the enemy herself).
• Happily Adopted: She knows she was abandoned as a baby and that Belgrieve adopted her, but doesn't really care. If anything, it only served to raise her image of her father even higher.
• Shipper on Deck: Ange eventually grows to realize that A.) moms are cool, and that B.) she doesn't have a mom because Belgrieve never actually settled down and got married. Her response is to bride hunt for her father without his permission, pestering women and obsessing over the idea of trying to find someone that's a good fit for him. She has no idea that he did pine for someone in his youth that was an Unrequited Love.
• Spoiled Brat: Sometimes acts like this as the frustration of not being able to visit her father builds up, getting increasingly annoyed to the point of tantrums at the various issues that stop her from going on her long awaited vacation. She also tends to act childishly if anyone doubts her father even slightly, regardless of how Belgrieve might view the matter.
• Upbringing Makes the Hero: She's a Demon Lord with extraordinary latent power, but Belgrieve found and adopted her shortly after she was born, effectively humanizing a walking facet of power incarnate.
• With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility: One of the lessons Belgrieve instilled in Ange was that it's natural for the strong to protect the weak, and it's one of the main reasons why she never left Orphen entirely despite many adventurers there leaving due to the increase in monsters causing more work than they could reasonably handle, as she knew the town would be in serious trouble if she left (and that Belgrieve wouldn't like it if she just abandoned the place for selfish reasons).

• Fantastic Racism: Milly has been on the receiving end of this for much of her life due to her status as a demihuman. This left her so self-conscious of her nature that she often hides her beastman ears under a hat to prevent any potential mockery.
• Fighter, Mage, Thief: While Ange fights on the frontlines, Milly is able to either fry masses of demon beasts with her lightning or stun stronger beasts to leave them vulnerable, while Anne supports them both with her archery skills.
• Shock and Awe: Milly's specialty is in lightning magic, which she can use to turn swathes of demon beasts to cinders with little effort.

• Hero Worship: While not nearly as bad as Ange, Sasha holds Belgrieve in high regards and considers him her master in terms of swordsmanship (though Belgrieve is of the opinion that she probably already outclasses him in that regard, just comparatively lacking in experience).

• Cloudcuckoolander's Minder: When the elder Bordeaux sister goes overboard in her actions (such as when she tried to recruit Belgrieve to work for her, despite his reservations), it's often Seren who has to come in and put a halt to it, lecturing the new head about bothering the citizens.

• Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: He often appears to be poorly dressed and rather tired from overworking. However, he shouldn't be underestimated, as despite his complaints he was a high ranked adventurer before he took on his current position.
