In fact, had Vector not stolen the Pyramid at the beginning, that boy would have died. (Though Vector later kidnaps the girls and threatens them to extort Gru so he's more of a {{Not so harmless villain}} and even some of Gru's acts in the film such as adoption fraud would be considered serious crimes in {{real life}}.
