YMMV / Creepypasta Land

Go To

  • Accidental Innuendo: The player's mother provides one at the start of the game:
Mom: Listen [player name], this house is a little creepy. If you are afraid of sleeping alone you can sleep in my bed with me.
  • Adorkable: Ben has messy hair, glasses, likes games, and is a scaredy cat. This makes him quite endearing to some players.
  • Canon Defilement: Some EarthBound fans have noted that the appearance of Giygas in this game kinda makes little sense. Although Giygas may look creepy, he originated from the EarthBound / Mother trilogy, not from internet creepypastas. Making matters worse is that during the encounter with Giygas, choosing to pray gets you immediately killed, even though praying is how he was defeated in the EarthBound game.
  • Memetic Molester: The player's mom has this reputation because of the Accidental Innuendo mentioned above. Another moment happens later when the mom sleeps with Sally, a little girl whom she barely knows and isn't even her child.
  • Narm: Has its own page.
  • Narm Charm: In spite of the grammar mistakes and abundance of jumpscares, there is still some charm to be found in the game. Nowadays, many people state they have fond memories watching Lets Plays of the game on YouTube. While people acknowledge that the game is not as good as they remember, people still appreciate it for its campy nature and the fact that it's clearly made by a young person with a love for Creepypasta. The grammar can also be forgiven as English is not the Brazillian creator's first language.
  • Nightmare Retardant: For most players, the game as a whole falls into this. Due to the reputation of many creepypastas, getting people to take the game seriously would already be a difficult task, but the abundance of grammar mistakes didn't help.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character:
    • Ben had potential to be an interesting character. He's a normal boy trying to fight his fate of giving into the insanity and becoming Ben Drowned. It could've been a great character arc if the writing and execution of it was better.
    • The Fourth-Wall Demon is an admittedly unique concept: An entity from a creepypasta that exists in the future. However, it seems as though the Demon was only put into the game as a plot device to tell Ben and Sally that they're video game characters, considering how he dissapears from the game entirely after his introduction when he tells them this information and is never mentioned again.
