Super Mario Odyssey Hide & Seek is a video series on Youtube based on the Multiplayer mod for Super Mario Odyssey made by CraftyBoss; the main thing about the game is that players get one of 2 roles; Hiders or Seekers. Hiders have one minute to hide before the Seekers is let free. If the Seekers touch a Hider, the Hider is tagged and become a Seeker themself. Then you are a Hider, your clock starts, and the player with the highest time, wins.

The main players are usually big Super Mario Odyssey speedrunners/content creators at some point or another. The original cast is SmallAnt, cjya, Fir and the creator of the mod themself, CraftyBoss. As the series goes on, more and more players are added on to the cast, like GrandPooBear, Alpharad and many others. Most players live-stream their version of the game, and the videos are made either by one of the members, or, if there are none from any player, a fan-made one is made from the live-stream footage.

This mod/series have many Spin-Off, being:

  • On cjya's channel, there is a video where he and 7 other players trys to beat the Any% record (later, the best time they can) for Super Mario Odyssey. Right now, it's his most popular video on his channel.
  • Team Hide & Seek, where players split into teams and hiding or seeking at the same time with their team and the team with the highest combined time, wins.
  • Sardines, where some player(s) go and find a spot to hide in together, and the other players' job is to find them, and then they do, hide with those players, and then you are hiding, you get time, the player with the most amount of time hiding wins. (sometimes called Reverse Hide & Seek)
  • Freeze Tag, where players get two roles at the start of the round; Runners and Chasers; the Runners get a grace period to run before the Chasers chase them. Players get points for doing things like tagging players or saving other Runners; the player with the most amount of points wins. (made by Amethyst, one of the members that plays normal Hide & Seek)
  • Manhunt, where one player try to speedrun the game while the other player/team trys to kill them. The player also lose if they die without the killer involved. (Based on Dream's Minecraft Manhunt videos.)
  • Prop Hunt, where the hiders hide as a random object and fit in to not get found.

For legal reason, we will not link the mod used for this series. Nintendo would not like if we did.

Note that this page is about the original Youtube series about this mod. Other groups that plays this mod are ask to not be added to this page, unless they got part in the original series in some way. This page is also not about the mod itself for now.

Players that played in the series
Players in the original video:
  • SmallAnt (Sometimes called by his real name, Tanner, or Smant, a shorten version of his username)
  • cjya (Just called CJ for short)
  • Fir
  • CraftyBoss (The maker of the mod; called Crafty for short)

Players who joined later:*

Super Mario Odyssey Hide and Seek provide examples of:

  • Accidental Murder: Happens a lot when they are playing normal Hide & Seek, then a Hider forgets to switch to Hider mode and kills other Hiders by touching them.
  • April Fools' Day: In 2024, Fir said that he was going to release his video on a Hide & Seek session for the first time in a long time, but as with videos released on April 1st, it's not what you would think, as it's not even in Super Mario Odyssey, instead being a Parody of a Magic The Noah video. The players playing are SmallAnt, CJ, Crafty and Poo, while Fir filled the role that Noah would usually do. For bonus points; Fir, SmallAnt and CJ also appeared on some Magic The Noah videos as well.
  • Blatant Lies: In a Bowser's Kingdom game, SmallAnt (seeker) went into a sub-area that Fir (Hider) was in. Then SmallAnt was right on top of Fir, Fir says that he is not in there, adding 'I am being honest' it the end. Because of Fir's ending statement, SmallAnt leaves the area. He was not happy then he found out that Fir lied about where he hid, and said that he can't trust Fir saying that he is honest anymore.
SmallAnt: You said you'd be honest! What kind of psychopath shit is that?
  • Call-Back: There are many times that the players called their spot a 'Crafty Spot', in reference to one of two spots that he hid in the first game ever, both being spots in plain sight and then being the last one found in that round; either hanging on an edge in Cap Kingdom (though he was covered in fog that time) and just being on top of a sign in Metro Kingdom.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Manhunt. Every Manhunt video never have the player speedrunning get past the two back-to-back bosses (Topper and Hariet) on Bowser's Kingdom.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: In their first Hide & Seek video released ever (released in SmallAnt's channel), the way to know who won was different; instead of players gaining time for being a Hider; instead, Seekers start their timer then they are seeking and the player with the shortest time wins insteadnote .
  • Epic Fail: In 8 Hiders and 1 Traitor video, as CJ was walking around, thinking he was safe, Poo (who was on his team) tagged him (since Poo was on Seeker mode). Even though their team won, this explains why the video was titled the way it was.
  • I Lied: As SmallAnt commonly tend to tell lies to gaslit seekers, he often says this then he gets founded by a very mad or confused seeker.
  • LOL, 69: In Freeze Tag is BETTER than Hide and Seek?!, Crafty notes that both him and Amethyst was in first and have 69, with Crafty even saying that they should stop gettiing points.
Crafty: We're both at the funny number, Amy! We need to spot getting points!
Amethyst: We're tied in first at the funny number!
  • Misery Trigger: In The Greatest Game of Mario Hide And Seek ever played, SmallAnt chose to leave his spot, think that Mars was about to get him. However, then trying to leave... he activated the boss fight at the top. He then fought the boss behind Mars, and as long as Mars just looked back, he was going to be found. He somehow beat the boss without Mars looking behind themself and somehow left Moon Cave. To say that Mars was not happy then they found out about this is an understatement.
  • Mundane Made Awesome: How can you make a Hide and Seek game without being boring to the viewers otherwise?
  • Obvious Rule Patch: In the earlier videos, if you left a sub-area, you had no chance as long as someone else was outside to tag you. It was changed so you get invincible frames then you leave for about 1-2 or 5 seconds. This does '''not''' however count the 'sub-area' that is just really just teleporting you.
    SmallAnt: What?!
(CJ's stream plays a laugh track by coincidence, with CJ laughing at the timing)
SmallAnt: You die on the way out?
    Fir: It's not a sub-area!
  • One-Hit-Point Wonder: As soon as you hit by one of the seekers as a hider, you are dead.
  • Origins Episode: The multiplayer mod that was used as the base for Hide & Seek was first shown in This hacker invaded my boring Mario Odyssey challenge, where SmallAnt was doing a challenge where he was underwater the whole timenote , but then around Sand Kingdom, Crafty joined in the game though the mod and at 3 minutes and 18 seconds, SmallAnt asks Crafty to play Hide and Seek, starting the first even Hide and Seek in Super Mario Odyssey Online (though the code for the real Hide & Seek was not there just yet).
  • Taking You with Me: In Freeze Tag is BETTER than Hide and Seek?!, SmallAnt comes with a plan to help Crafty win in the last second by having Fir tag him and then Crafty can get the points to beat Amethyst by un-freezing him. What did Fir do? Freeze SmallAnt and Crafty, letting Amethyst win. (Context: Fir had no way to win, due to Crafty and Amethyst having a lot more points than him, and even if his team got everyone, Mars had more points than him.)
    Fir's subtitle: Yelling BAITED!
