Written by Sean Szeles and Kat Morris

Mordecai, Margaret, Rigby, and Eileen decide to venture into an abandoned zoo, where Mordecai and Rigby plan to take a picture of themselves inside Death Bear's cage. Unfortunately, it turns out that Death Bear is very real.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Abandoned Area: Most of the episode takes place in the abandoned park zoo where the Death Bear is said to live.
  • Accessory-Wearing Cartoon Animal: Death Bear wears a red cape and a Pickelhaube (a spiked helmet worn by the Germans during World War I).
  • Alas, Poor Villain: Downplayed. Eileen feels bad for poor Death Bear (knowing he was ultimately just an abused animal) as he's carried away by helicopter to an area away from the general public. Mordecai then reveals that the authorities are taking Death Bear to an animal sanctuary, stating his belief that such places "are like five-star hotels".
  • All for Nothing: At the end, it's revealed Rigby didn't have the camera facing them as he took the picture, so all he got was a picture of their feet.
  • Bears Are Bad News: Death Bear is an especially dangerous bear as he has the ability to withstand being shot by hundreds of tranquilizer darts and he can also do martial arts.
  • Cat Scare: While exploring the abandoned zoo's reptile house, Mordecai gets spooked by a squirrel running out of one of the cages.
  • Cool Helmet: Death Bear has one, as stated above.
  • Dude, Not Funny!: The gang has this towards Rigby when he scares them all shitless by pretending that Death Bear was after him.
  • The Juggernaut: Death Bear proves to be quite resilient to tranquilizer darts as he takes hundreds of them before he is finally brought down.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Rigby scares the gang shitless for his own amusement. He later gets tranquilized.
  • Major Injury Underreaction: After a member of Animal Control gets his freaking arms swiped off by Death Bear, he glumly says, "I wanna go home."
  • Miles Gloriosus: Rigby. He acts brave for most of the episode and tries to scare Mordecai and/or the girls several times. But when Death Bear actually shows up, he freezes and does nothing to help (though that's partially because he got hit with a tranquilizer dart).
  • Real After All: Mordecai believes that Death Bear is nothing more than an urban legend. Unfortunately, he is soon proven very, very wrong. This is alluded to earlier when he tells Margaret that there was a bear at the old zoo that was pretty scary, but that he believes it left with all of the other animals when the zoo shut down. Turns out, Rigby was right.
  • Ship Tease:
    • Mordecai and Margaret share a sweet moment when Mordecai reminisces about the children's train at the old zoo.
    • Eileen remarks at the end of the episode that, even though Rigby isn't that brave, she still likes him. He (still high from the tranq) says that he likes her too.
