Playing With / Never Going Back to Prison

Go To

Basic Trope: A character who was once in prison (or a similar institution) pledges that they will never go back.

  • Straight: Carol is a Reformed Criminal who escaped from prison one day, and says that she's never going to go back there.
  • Exaggerated: At the very mention of prison, Carol has a Freak Out.
  • Downplayed: Carol was once arrested for a minor crime, and had to spend about a day or so in a jail cell. She says that she doesn't want to do that again.
  • Justified:
    • Carol went to a Hellhole Prison, and she never wants to experience what she went through in prison ever again.
    • Carol is a Reformed Criminal who feels that she's learned her lesson.
    • Carol wants to be a good role model to her friends/family members.
  • Inverted: Carol Desires Prison Life, to the point of intentionally getting arrested and not wanting to get out of jail.
  • Subverted: ???
  • Double Subverted: ???
  • Parodied: Carol pledges to never go back to jail... in Monopoly.
  • Zig-Zagged: ???
  • Averted: Carol has never been to prison.
  • Enforced: ???
  • Lampshaded: ???
  • Invoked: Before Carol is released from prison, she and the guards/wardens make a promise that she'll never come back there.
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied: ???
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
  • Played for Laughs: Carol, who wouldn't hurt a fly, suddenly exclaims that she can never go back to jail. It's never specified what exactly she was in there for.
  • Played for Drama: Prison is shown to be a Trauma Button for Carol because of the horrifying things she went through, and she views the crime she got arrested for as her greatest failure.

I'm never going back to the main page!
