13 Treasures is a Young Adult fantasy trilogy written by Michelle Harrison about the fair folk, including 13 Treasures, 13 Curses, and 13 Secrets. A prequel, One Wish, was released after the trilogy concluded.

The books contain examples of:

  • Alliterative Name: Edward and his wife Elizabeth Elvesden.
  • Big Fancy House: The Elvesden manor.
  • Bratty Teenage Daughter: Tanya is quite snarky and rude to her mother and Fabian, before her Character Development takes place.
  • Cassandra Truth: The reason why she is sent to her grandmother's mansion.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Elizabeth’s charm bracelet holds the symbols of the Thirteen Treasures.
  • Creepy Child: Changelings.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: Tanya, who starts off as a snarky and rude teen, but gets better.
  • Don't Go Into the Woods: Tanya and Fabian are constantly lectured to avoid the Hangman's Woods. Mainly because Morwenna lurks in them.
  • Evil Former Friend: Morwenna Bloom to Florence.
  • The Fair Folk
  • Family Eye Resemblance: Red figures out that Rose is her birth mother after she recognizes that they both have green eyes.
  • Family Relationship Switcheroo: Red is a victim of this. The parents who raised her were really her aunt and uncle and her birth mother and adoptive mother were sisters after the former became pregnant by a passerby fairy one summer.
  • Fantasy-Forbidding Father: Both of Red’s parents are these. She was even arguing with them because they didn’t believe she had the second sight just before they died.
  • I Have Your Wife:
    • The fairies kidnap Red's brother.
    • Morwenna kidnapped Tanya's mother when she was a baby, in order to blackmail Florence into completing the pact.
  • Heroes Love Dogs: Tanya has a Doberman named Oberon.
  • Heroic Bastard: Red was born to a unmarried human mother and a fairy father.
  • Known Only by Their Nickname:
    • Red’s given name is Rowan
    • Red’s birth mothers full name is Primrose, but after learning from Red’s father that primroses attract fairies and after he got her pregnant and took off, she shortened her name to Rose.
  • Lineage Comes from the Father: Averted with Tanya as she inherited her second sight from her mothers side of the family.
  • The Lost Lenore: Morwenna was this to Amos
  • Meaningful Name:
    • Tanya sounds similar to Titania, queen of the fairies in A Midsummer Nights Dream.
    • Rowan is named for a tree that is said to provide protection against malevolent beings-including fairies.
  • Missing Mom: The series provides a few examples of this:
    • Red's parents died in a car crush.
    • Amos's wife left the family when Warwick was only a baby.
    • Fabian's mother died when he was a child.
  • Preacher's Kid: Morwenna was the daughter of a preacher.
  • Redheaded Hero: 13 Curses is told through Red’s point of view.
  • Red Is Heroic: Tanya wears a red scarf after reading that red is supposed to ward off fairies.
  • The Reveal:
    • Morwenna was never murdered or kidnapped. She ran away to the fairy realm and Florence almost joined her.
    • Morwenna Bloom was trying to trick Tanya into getting trapped in the Fairy Realm, so that Morwenna would be free to return to the human world.
    • Florence was acting aloof towards Tanya because she wanted to protect her from Morwenna’s clutches.
    • Elizabeth Elvensden was a changeling.
  • Take Me Instead: Red does this at the end of the first book.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Tanya after the events of the first book.
  • Uneven Hybrid: Those who have the sight have some fairy ancestry, courtesy of the changeling switch.
  • Who Wants to Live Forever?: It’s this revelation that prompts Morwenna to try and return to the human realm.
  • You Can See Me?: Tanya can see fairies, and neither party is happy about it.
