Main Characters

Tsunanori's Party

    Tsunanori Mido
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saga_emerald_beyond_tsunanori.jpg
The protector of Miyako City. His family has the power to contact spirits and contain them in Kugutsu dolls, and his uncle is the current vice minister, but he tries not to coast on his family's reputation. When the barrier that separates Miyako from the other Conjoined Worlds is weakened, he's asked by the government to venture outside the city to find enough spiritual energy to reinforce it.
  • The Fellowship Has Ended: In the default endings of Tsunanori's story, he and the Kugutsu return to Miyako City to repair its barrier, separating them from the Conjoined Worlds and their newfound friends. Once that's done and his duty is complete, Tsunanori then retires the Kugutsu as well and returns to his normal life.
  • Screw Destiny: He's had the ability to use the Emerald Wave since he was a kid, and grown accustomed to it trying to nudge him in a specific direction, but admits to Lita that he sometimes chooses unfavorable paths when they interest him more.
  • Sword and Gun: In addition to being depicted wielding these in official key art, his default in-game stats have him start with a few levels of one-handed sword and gun talents.

    Lita Caryx
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saga_emerald_beyond_lita.png
A Blue Witch from Pulchra, the first world Tsunanori visits in his adventure. Initially thinking he is a threat, she is asked by the archsage to join him, and ends up befriending him. She sometimes uses the cover identity of a journalist named Shungiku Hanabusa while on her pilgrimage, as worlds like Miyako and Capitol City aren't tolerant of visitors from outside their realm.
  • The Lancer: She's the only other mandatory human in Tsunanori's story, and frequently banters with him.

    Musashi, Komachi and Sukune
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saga_emerald_beyond_musashi.png
Musashi
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saga_emerald_beyond_komachi.png
Komachi
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saga_emerald_beyond_sukune.png
Sukune
Three ancient spirits sealed into Kugutsu dolls by the Mido family, who accompany Tsunanori on his adventure. Musashi was a legendary swordsman, Komachi knows the most about Miyako City's history and has some magical potential, and Sukune is the founder of Sumo martial arts (which predates the Mido clan, making his current status as a Kugutsu a mystery).
  • Color-Coded Characters: Their Kugutsu bodies are similar, save for their facial masks and the color of their robes: Musashi wears blue, Komachi wears red, Sukune wears green, and Boh wears yellow.

    Boh
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saga_emerald_beyond_boh.png
Boh
A fourth spirit sealed into a Kugutsu doll, that of a famed gunslinger executed for trying to assassinate nobility. Unlike the other Kugutsu, he is not loyal solely to Tsunanori, and can accompany Ameya on her own adventures.
  • Color-Coded Characters: He's primarily yellow, to contrast with the other kugutsu being primarily blue, red, and green.

Ameya's Party

    Ameya Aisling
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saga_emerald_beyond_ameya.jpg
A White Witch who has assumed the cover identity of Yumeha Izumi, a young Miyako City schoolgirl, while on her pilgrimage to attain sagehood. When a powerful foe steals all of her magical powers, a higher power suggests she find new magic across the Conjoined Worlds
  • De-power: Her story begins with her losing her accumulated magic, with two ways to regain it: by finding cats across the Conjoined Worlds to pact with, or by training herself. The former option leads to taking out the Calamity faster, but with consequences.

    Lolo
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saga_emerald_beyond_lolo.png
Ameya's cat familiar.
  • Becoming the Mask: While living in Miyako City with "Yumeha Izumi", he's noted to have taken on some habits of its local cats.

    Shinobu Kato
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saga_emerald_beyond_shinobukato.png
An agent from Pulchra, the world of witches, tasked with overseeing Ameya on her pilgrimage and keeping her safe.
  • Magically Inept Fighter: As a Squire, he is incapable of using magic, but is strong enough to bodyguard witches.
  • You Are Number 6: "Shinobu" is just his public cover, and his true name is Squire 15413837.

    Macha (Alter Ego)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saga_emerald_beyond_macha.png
The Celestial of Sorcery, a goddess of magic...or rather, an imperfect human copy of her created by the original to bequeath the power of the Emerald Wave to Ameya and guide her on her journey.

Siugnas' Party

    Siugnas
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saga_emerald_beyond_siugnas.jpg
An immortal vampire who rules the land of Yomi as its Dismal King, but somehow awakens in a world where only dead heroes can go. Perturbed, but desiring amusement, he gathers the souls of the departed as his personal thralls and goes on an adventure to reclaim his throne.
  • And Then John Was a Zombie: When other protagonists go to Yomi during their adventures, they're tasked with seeking the Dismal King. However, there are three potential outcomes to this: either his story is currently ongoing and his tower abandoned, with the Lords of the realm lying that they sealed him away in order to remain in power; his story is complete, and he actually does meet with the protagonist; or the Lords genuinely did have to seal him inside because feeding on so many lives has mutated him into a monster that's barely identifiable as the same creature as his human form, with the only tells being its humanoid mask and long pink hair.
  • Blood Magic: In addition to using weaponry like humans, as a vampire, he has access to Sanguine Arts, allowing him to spend some of his own LP to unleash powerful techniques.
  • Hypnotic Eyes: His gaze compels people to obey him, telling him their secrets or (potentially in Naomi Waka, Professor, and Emily Bryant's cases) joining him as new thralls.
  • Magikarp Power: The Dismal King starts off with fairly low LP, which runs counter to his unique abilities requiring he spend LP to use them. However, with every Thrall he creates, his max LP increases by 1, and even beyond that his max LP already increases on its own as the story progresses. Once he creates his team of thralls, he's able to use his unique Blood Techs with more reckless abandon, allowing him to stun, instantly kill, and otherwise terrorize most encounters with the most minor of setup.

Champion, Hero, Philosopher, Warrior, Lifetaker, and General
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saga_emerald_beyond_champion.png
Champion
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saga_emerald_beyond_hero.png
Hero
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saga_emerald_beyond_philosopher.png
Philosopher
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saga_emerald_beyond_warrior.png
Warrior
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saga_emerald_beyond_lifetaker.png
Lifetaker
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saga_emerald_beyond_general.png
General
Departed people whose souls were taken to Brighthome after their deaths. Lingering regrets lead to them pledging their allegiance to Siugnas and travelling to other worlds as his Thralls.
  • Joke Character: Wastrels require you equip a Thrall with Sanguine Gear, and then promptly unequip it. This strips the character of their custom techs AND reduces their maximum LP to a measly 1, so there is quite literally no reason to create Wastrels.
  • The Only One Allowed to Defeat You: Lifetaker claims to have no regrets and joins Siugnas just to kill him later, though he can still be converted into a Thrall after visiting his homeland.
  • Unfinished Business: They all decide to leave the pleasures of their afterlife and join Siugnas due to this.
    • Hero returns to Mare Nostrum to make it up to the crew he lost in pursuit of the Sea Dragon.
    • Philosopher returns to Delta Base to deal with the Red Division Head that fused him with an experimental mold.
    • Lifetaker returns to Miyako City to make peace with the spirits of those he killed as a professional assassin.
    • General returns to Grelon because his tactical withdrawal while leading the Final Emperor's army led to the Empire's fall and the Emperor's current state.
  • Warrior Poet: Warrior only speaks in rhyme, save for truly emotional situations like an ally falling in battle, and calls himself a poet while killing fiends.

Bonnie & Formina's Party

    Bonnie Blair
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saga_emerald_beyond_bonnie_and_formina.jpg
Bonnie on the left, Formina on the right
A former marine, who now works for the Capitol City Police Department alongside her partner Formina.
  • Book Dumb: At the end of her and Formina's story, she admits that she was never fond of education when Formina decides to return to university.
  • Close-Range Combatant: Bonnie specializes in swords and martial arts, to contrast with Formina's gun specialization.
  • Stripperiffic: As a foil to her more conservatively dressed partner in law, Bonnie's outfit is by far the most revealing of the protagonists'. Hotpants, a tied-up shirt and a black bra probably wouldn't be proper protocol for any real cop, but she makes it work.

    Formina Franklyn
A skilled sharpshooter recently hired to the Capitol City Police Department, partnered with fellow rookie but trained combatant Bonnie.
  • The Fellowship Has Ended: At the end of her and Bonnie's story, having been astounded by the Conjoined Worlds, she decides to return to university and become a future president instead of rejoining Bonnie on the police force. However, she does promise to make Bonnie her future secretary of defense.
  • Long-Range Fighter: To contrast her melee-oriented partner, Formina comes equipped with two different guns, as well as the high DEX necessary to wield them effectively.
  • Token Wholesome: Formina, by the nature of her Muslim apparel, shows the least skin of any female protagonist in the game.

    Hiss, Meow, and Purr
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saga_emerald_beyond_hiss.png
Hiss
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saga_emerald_beyond_meow.png
Meow
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saga_emerald_beyond_purr.png
Purr
A trio of stray cats from the Great Tree, who follow Bonnie & Formina back to Capitol City and tag along on their investigation.
  • Color-Coded Characters: Hiss is brown, Meow is white, and Purr is dark-gray, also separating them from Lolo's pure black.

Diva No. 5's Party

    Diva No. 5
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saga_emerald_beyond_diva_no_5.jpg
A mechanical songstress meant to entertain the people of Avalon, and able to recite any melody perfectly after hearing it once. However, upon singing a forbidden song, the government seals her memories, including her ability to sing. Now without a purpose, she abandons her old life and body, and joins a secret organization exploring the Conjoined Worlds in order to reawaken her heart.
  • Expy: Of T260G. Both are female Mech protagonists who are traveling various worlds in search of missing personal data. They also both have the ability to freely swap their body type to that of their ally Mechs. Amusingly, T260G's initial body was made from scrap, while Diva finds hers in a pile of scrap.
  • Magikarp Power: Diva is the only robot in the game who starts off unable to equip a full set of gear. She has to clear certain worlds in order to become on par with other robots, before surpassing them with her ability to choose any frame she wants.
  • You Are Number 6: Her true name is the serial code D05-72314.

    Constantine
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saga_emerald_beyond_constantine.png
Diva's manager, who is also the leader and founder of Albion's National Extradimensional Exploratory Task Force, a secret organization that explores the Conjoined Worlds. When Diva loses her heart, he invites her to accompany them on their mission.
  • Big Bad: Of Diva's story, having tricked the party to get what he wants.
  • False Friend: In Diva No. 5's story, Constantine originally helped her learn the forbidden song, supported her memory sealing so he could take her out of Avalon and into the Junction, and then set up the search to explore worlds and regain her memories in order to recover the song, ditching the party when he obtains it so he can use it to summon a greater power and fuse all of the Conjoined Worlds into one "perfect" world.
  • Human Aliens: He's part of the same race as the Progenitor in Delta Base, the Man from the Heavens in Miyako City and Yomi, and the Quisstatium in Capitol City.
  • The Lancer: To Diva, often having the most to say about a new Conjoined World when they enter it while Diva is more concerned about finding her heart. This role is then given to Boudica once Constantine reveals his intentions.
  • Starter Villain: In Bonnie & Formina's story, their first case as partners is to track him down and apprehend him for suspicious activity.
  • Walking Spoiler: While he is one of Diva's initial allies, he also plays a significant antagonistic role in some characters' storylines, including Diva's herself.
  • You Can't Thwart Stage One: Diva, Boudica, and the rest of the party fight him after he takes the forbidden song, but he's still able to summon the Living Anguish afterwards.

    Boudica
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saga_emerald_beyond_boudica.png
Chief of a Fallen Tribe
A human wielding a two-handed sword, and the former Chief of a tribe that was destroyed by Avalon.

    Bláth
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saga_emerald_beyond_blath.png
A plant-like Ephemeral.

    Imakoo
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saga_emerald_beyond_imakoo.png
Dark Werewolf
A Werewolf from Yomi.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Despite his fearsome appearance and epithet, he's actually quite friendly to his allies.
  • Mutually Exclusive Party Members: With the exception of during Diva's story, in which he is part of her default retinue, protagonists will have to choose between him and Dolores (after unlocking the option to choose by repeatedly encountering him) during the Yomi arc.
  • The Unintelligible: In his human form that can be met in Yomi, he can speak just fine. But in his werewolf form, which he's always in during Diva's story, he can only speak in snarls and howls. Jury's still out on whether or not anyone can understand him that way.

    Wednesday
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saga_emerald_beyond_wednesday.png
A humanoid armored warrior.
  • Ambiguously Human: While she has a humanoid appearance and learns most techs the way that humans do, she also has access to the Unleash command that lets her spend health to use special techs tied to her weapons, an ability otherwise exclusive to monsters.
  • Cloud Cuckoolander: All it takes is her introductory line to tell you she's not playing witn a full deck of cards.
  • Genki Girl: Always upbeat, even when smashing heads together.

The Conjoined Worlds

The Junction

    Mr. S
A small, cyclopean creature that takes an interest in those adventuring between worlds.

    Living Anguish (Unmarked Spoilers)
An abomination with the power to destroy and remake the Conjoined Worlds.
  • Giant Space Flea from Nowhere: Downplayed. While it is integral to the Quissitatum's plans, nothing about it is explained, even down to what it exactly is.
  • Final Boss: Of Siugnas, Diva No. 5, and Bonnie & Formina's stories, after their respective Quisstatium agent summons it.
  • One-Winged Angel: After its initial form is defeated, it revives as "One World" with a new set of minions and more powerful attacks.
  • True Final Boss: Of Tsunanori and Ameya's stories, which can potentially end before fighting it.

Avalon

    Minstrel
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saga_emerald_beyond_minstrel.png
A bardic mech willing to offer its services, both musical and physical, in exchange for some patronage.
  • Legacy Character: Of the Minstrel from the Romancing SaGa series, being a combat-capable bard with no name and a heavy association with the color green.
  • Mutually Exclusive Party Members: In Bonnie & Formina's route, he'll automatically join if Diva's story has not been completed before, but Diva in her humanoid frame will replace him if it has. Since Diva cannot visit her homeland in her own story or join anyone else, they can never be in the same party.
  • Tin-Can Robot: Its mech model is a green version of Diva's starting frame.

    Guinivere
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saga_emerald_beyond_guinivere.png
The Queen of Avalon.

    Inspector Spear
A detective working for Avalon City.
  • Mutually Exclusive Party Members: Either he or Guinivere will be the one to accompany the protagonist through Avalon, and potentially join afterwards. Additionally, at the end of his route, the player has to choose whether to recruit him as his "Lancelot" form or his "Inspector" form.
  • Secret Identity: Should the secret treasure of the Graveyard be recovered during his version of the Avalon arc, he reveals to the King and Queen that his true identity is Lancelot, former Knight of the Round Table, who was branded a criminal for fighting Guinivere and intends to finish the job.

Brighthome

    King Din

  • Forever War: He purposely sabotages the war against the fiends invading Brighthome because a Valhalla-like afterlife with nothing to fight against is meaningless.

    Simon
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saga_emerald_beyond_simon.png
A guardian mech.

Capitol City

    Stacy Bench & Flip Brickley
A pair of newscasters reporting on the presidential election and other current events.

    James Allen & Noah Bailey
The two opposing frontrunners in the current presidential election.

    Nishant

    Tristan Hernandez
The head of the current president's Secret Service.

    Mr. President
The current president of the United States of America.

    Emily Bryant
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saga_emerald_beyond_emily.png
A fashion model and beloved idol.

    Quisstatium
A representative of an alien organization that has agents across the Conjoined Worlds.
  • Ancient Conspiracy: His race has worked alongside the American government for years, turning Capitol City into the technological marvel it currently is. However, their recent interference to replace an uncooperative president with one more agreeable to their ideals is considered a step too far.
  • Big Bad: Of Bonnie and Formina's story, who are tracking his organization after an assassination attempt on Mr. President.
  • Human Aliens: Considered extraterrestrial and not just a person from a Conjoined World, yet looks like a human in a sci-fi outfit.
  • The Man Behind the Man: To the Man from the Heavens and Constantine, who are fellow agents of their organization.

Cinq

    Nitram, Atihana, Nahui, and Ilbus
Representatives of the, respectively, Flame, Water, Gale, and Wood tribes. Although they all once banded together to take out the Soul Gate that tried to control them all, they now feud amongst each other and will not stop until only one tribe remains.
  • Mutually Exclusive Party Members: In Siugnas' version of the Cinq arc, if he only assists one faction and then refuses a reward at the end of the Cinq arc, the representatives of the three losing factions are given to him as slaves. In other protagonists' versions, assisting one faction and then refusing a reward lets them choose any one of the four to recruit. However, it's impossible for all four to be in the party at the same time.

Cordycep

    Tope
A mole-like creature from the Kuhl tribe, who is constantly seeking worms to feed his family but has noticed that the quality of their world's soil, and thus the availability of food, has become much worse very recently.
  • Henpecked Husband: Every time he talks with his wife, she will berate him for not bringing enough food home for their growing boy, even when their tribe is under attack by the others and her husband is busy helping to save their lives.

    Gourmand
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saga_emerald_beyond_gourmand.png
Tope's young son, who loves to eat delicious food.
  • Rite of Passage: Under the right conditions, his parents will encourage the current protagonist to take Gourmand with them when they leave Cordycep, so that he can gain maturity and become a man.

Crowrealm

    Scarecrow
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saga_emerald_beyond_scarecrow.png
A sentient scarecrow that acts as the protagonists' guide to his desert world, despite being a ninny in his community.

Spookcrow, Smilecrow, Strangecrow, Sweetcrow, and Sorrowcrow
Other sentient scarecrows that live in the desert. Spookcrow is spooky with a face like a jack-o'-lantern, the smiling Smilecrow thinks everything is hilarious, Strangecrow has a "?" in place of a painted-on face and never speaks clearly, the flirtatious Sweetcrow has a stylized face with Big Anime Eyes, and the crying Sorrowcrow wallows in his misery.
  • No Indoor Voice: Spookcrow always speaks at an excessive volume rendered as all-caps, and apologizes when his natural tone of voice annoys others.

    Professor
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saga_emerald_beyond_professor.png
A professor who only lets others address her by her title, despite it being unofficial due to Crowrealm lacking any higher education. She is researching the history of Crowrealm to try and find what caused its elements to disappear, drying up oceans and causing airships to fall, and believes the fault lies with a relic known as Pandora's Box.

    Junkman
A human that makes a living finding and selling scrap in the desert, using mechs like Sarab to locate potential treasure.

    Engineer
A human attempting to fix Crowrealm by recalibrating the giant robots used in its long-ago war.

    Wiseman
The leader of the human community that's trying to survive in Crowrealm's desert.

    Sarab
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saga_emerald_beyond_sarab.png
A mech able to detect objects buried beneath the sand. It was originally created in an ancient war, and believes that joining the protagonists to locate the key to Pandora's Box will give it closure.
  • Intelligible Unintelligible: Its written dialogue is always just a string of numbers and its voice lines are electronic beeping. Despite this, Diva is able to understand it just fine. Justified because she's a Mech too.

    Pandora
According to legend, Pandora was an outsider that caused the desertification of Crowrealm by opening a cursed box, which only another outsider can close. In truth, she is an active terminal from an ancient war controlling sand-sized nanomachines, and needs to be shut down to save the world.

Delta Base

    Administrator Gold
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saga_emerald_beyond_administrator_gold.png
A mech that oversees operations in the base.
  • Unperson: When the protagonists convince him to leave Delta Base with them, his superiors expunge all records of him from Delta Base and immediately search for a replacement administrator.

    Qu Magis
A Green Division underling that tends to be accident-prone, like mixing up a genetic splicing experiment with monster DNA, or bumping into others and dropping research samples.

Great Tree

    Great Eagle
A powerful bird that tasks visiting heroes with unpetrifying the world's animals.

Grelon

    Alexandre
A young boy who is the only survivor of an incident that turned the people of his world into Human Popsicles, and must choose whom to save using a limited number of magical matchsticks.

    Final Emperor
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saga_emerald_beyond_final_emperor.png
An emperor from days past, who's not only lived to the modern day but also cursed Grelon's people to icy prisons. His true nature is obscured, only revealed from dreams of those freed from the ice.
  • Demonic Possession: Depending on the people saved, he attempts to possess either Alexandre, Leia, Gabriel, or Roman.
  • Route Boss: Depending on the people saved, the final battle is either against him in either a spiritual or demonic form, or against the Iron Maiden.
  • Shrouded in Myth: Very few people know the real him. At best, the Final Emperor's nature can be cleaned from the dreams experienced by the frozen victims, and even then it results in a conflicted, confusing set of perspectives that posit more questions than they answer.

Kamala

    Lela
A Plant-like Ephemeral chosen as Dura village's candidate to become the next Epuyke, a grand flower that purifies the world's corruption. She was friends with the maiden chosen to be the previous Epuyke, and wishes to be reunited with her.

    Chup
A maiden chosen by Doroso to be the next Epuyke.

    Nana
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saga_emerald_beyond_nana.png
A maiden chosen by Berta to be the next Epuyke.

    Kina
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saga_emerald_beyond_kina.png
One of the insectoid monsters in charge of maintaining the Epuyke's health.

Kosmos

    Byaku
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saga_emerald_beyond_byaku.png
A slime Ephemeral that serves as a priest of Kosmos' digestive system, who guides the protagonists throughout the world in the hope that they can cure the malignancies threatening Kosmos' life.

    Erytheia
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saga_emerald_beyond_erytheia.png
A slime Ephemeral, serving as one of the Carrier cells of Kosmos' organic world.
  • Mutually Exclusive Party Members: She only joins during the "Canker" version of the Kosmos arc, while Byaku joins in the other version.
  • You Can't Go Home Again: In order to stop Canker from reviving and killing Kosmos, Erytheia takes up the duty of taking its body and throwing it into the void of The Junction, even though it means she will become contaminated and forbidden from returning to her own world; with nowhere else to go, she joins the protagonists that helped defeat Canker on their journey.

    Valkoinen
The High Priest that's in charge of maintaining Kosmos' heart. However, infection by a malignancy leads to him sabotaging the other organs and putting Kosmos' life at risk.

    Canker
An immortal malignancy that threatens to kill the giant organism whose insides form the world of Kosmos.
  • Giant Spider: It is one of the spider-type enemies.
  • Meaningful Name: A canker is a type of ulcer that can manifest in damaged organic tissue. Alternatively, it could also be a corruption of Cancer.

Mare Nostrum

    Ivar
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saga_emerald_beyond_ivar.png
The captain of the ship that rescues protagonists after the Junction spits them out in the middle of the ocean, and strongarms them into doing some errands.
  • Mutually Exclusive Party Members: He's only recruitable in the Pirate and Ghost ship routes, and in the latter, only if you return Baltasar's heart to him, which prevents Azure from joining.

    Baltasar
Ivar's adoptive father, an undead pirate.
  • Ghost Pirate: His body has been reduced to a skeleton, and it's impossible to outright kill him without finding his heart.

    Sigurd
Ivar's biological father, and also a pirate.

    Azure
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saga_emerald_beyond_azure.png
The last guardian of the eggs of the Sea Dragon, a powerful being who is rumored to grant wishes.

    Pedro
A pirate's "parrot", actually a Maggot Ball fiend (a giant head with bat wings), that taunts Ivar's crew while claiming to know where treasure is buried.

Miyako City

    Tadamichi Mido
The Vice-Minister of Domestic Affairs, and Tsunanori's uncle. Though he works for the government, he's aware that some threats cannot be handled through administration, and entrusts his nephew with the family's Kugutsu dolls to help keep their world safe.

    Masatsuna Mido
Tsunanori's father, who is often away on business.

    Naomi Waka
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saga_emerald_beyond_naomiwaka.png
A first-year student at Miyako University, and thus Tsunanori's junior. She works hard at a part-time job to get what she wants, but worries that her lack of luxuries makes her seem plain in comparison to other girls.
  • Plain Jane: She likes Tsunanori, but is concerned that she's too plain for his tastes...which also makes her very susceptible to Siugnas tempting her to join his retinue.

    Man from the Heavens
A sharply-dressed outsider who is attempting to destroy the barrier protecting Miyako City.
  • Big Bad: Of Tsunanori's story, being the initial final boss of his story, and the main antagonist of the Miyako City arc in other protagonists' stories. Another, similar Man from the Heavens is also the main antagonist of Siugnas' story, responsible for banishing him from Yomi and taking over in his place.

Providence

    Observer
An observer of the Emerald Wave visions.

Vermiglio

    B X10-EX
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saga_emerald_beyond_bx10_ex.png
A quadrupedal mech assisting Dr. Corana Sitrix. He was originally made by Corana's sister, Dr. Alessa Sitrix, as the culmination of her attempts to make mechs powered by triangle theory before growing disinterested and moving on to her next project.

    Dr. Corana Sitrix
One of the two sisters who discovered triangle energy.
  • Cain and Abel: While she believed that triangle energy could help humanity, it turns out that her sister only planned to use it to make herself more powerful at everyone else's expense.
  • Replacement Goldfish: Corana never felt love towards Fred during their relationship, and believes Fred was actually in love with Alessa all along, but dated her instead because Alessa prioritized work over relationships; the moment Alessa perished, Fred broke up with her.

    Fred
An employee of the Trigon Corporation, and the former assistant of the late Dr. Alessa Sitrix. He used to date Corana, but the death of her sister broke them apart.
  • Mad Love: His shiftiness turns out to be working to revive Alessa and have her take over Vermiglio, declaring her to be his goddess.

    Dr. Alessa Sitrix
Corana's sister, who perished during a workplace accident.
  • Mad Scientist: She didn't actually die; rather, she used triangle energy to transcend her humanity and become a "Supreme Being", otherwise known as Anti-Alessa, and plans to transmute everyone else in Vermiglio into more triangle energy for her to absorb.

Witchdom Pulchra

    Arch Sage
The leader of the Witchdom, who can foresee the destinies of all her subjects.

    Wilma

A Yellow Witch who has been denied her pilgrimage, and worries that she might be an artificial golem instead of a real person.
  • Mutually Exclusive Party Members: With the other party members from Pulchra; Lita joins during Tsunanori's version, and recruiting Wilma prevents Ameya or Red Squire from joining.

    Greta
A representative of the Black Witches.

    Red Orchid
A Red Witch, and the older sister of Zhu Ya, the Red Sage.
  • Sibling Rivalry: Orchid and the Red Sage constantly bicker, to the point that they've each ordered the Red Squire to assassinate the other.

    Red Squire
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saga_emerald_beyond_redsquire.png
A nameless, fully-armored Squire that fights to protect the domain of the Red Witches from the Calamity's corruption.
  • Desperately Needs Orders: He's spent his entire life loyally serving the Red Witches, so receiving conflicting orders from his leaders (Red Orchid wants him to kill the Red Sage, and the Red Sage wants him to kill Red Orchid) sends him into a tizzy, which only gets worse when he's told to disregard both orders by a third party used to his bosses' bickering. He ends up poisoning them both right as they're making amends, and needs help in order to make an antidote and prevent the Red Witches from getting entirely overwhelmed by the Calamity.
  • Magically Inept Fighter: Squires, like himself and Shinobu, are completely incapable of using magic. He's still willing and capable of fighting back the Corruption, as well as doing "wetwork" for his leaders, with his physical might.

Yomi

    Dolores
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saga_emerald_beyond_dolores.png
A maid who is convinced that the protagonist is her dead master.

Wardens of Gluttony, Lust, Wrath, and Sloth
The lords of Yomi who sealed the Dismal King in his own tower, and rule as despots in his place.
  • Animal-Motif Team: Each warden has the head of an animal instead of a human: Gluttony is a pig, Lust is a lizard, Wrath is a bull, and Sloth is a bat.
  • Bullfight Boss: The alternative to killing a brutally difficult version of the bull-themed Wrath to win his key to the Dismal King's tower is to survive five turns and then leave when the option becomes available, at which point the current protagonist will lure him to a well that Wrath charges into and gets stuck in.
  • Big Eater: Gluttony, naturally, is fond of both rare meals and huge servings of common meals. A protagonist offering him a rancher's discarded carcasses of pigs that died from a plague just has him comment that the disease was like an exquisite seasoning to him.
  • Child Eater: Gluttony's willing to show lenience towards a couple that are starving because the woman is currently pregnant, on the condition that they give him the baby when it's born, as its meat will be more supple than that of its tortured parents.
  • Droit du Seigneur: Lust forces betrothed people in his domain to pay a "marriage tax" to him, usually not caring whether it's the bride, the groom, or both that service him.
  • Forced Sleep: Sloth is so slothful that just being in his presence causes other people to start feeling drowsy.
  • Humanity Ensues: Near the end of Siugnas' story, the Man from the Heavens has caused them to transform from their monstrous humanoid appearances into regular humans, and Siugnas needs to make them imbibe in their preferred sin (such as going all-out in battle against Wrath) to revert the change.
  • Lethal Negligence: Sloth forces the people in his domain to constantly be loafing around, month after month. Anyone spending any effort to keep themselves healthy, like cooking food, gets them thrown into his dungeons to make sure they can't do anything else.
  • Seven Deadly Sins: Each one embodies the sin they are named after. There used to be three more Wardens to cover the remaining sins, but they no longer live.
