World Tournament Announcer (天下一武道会アナウンサー, Tenkaichi Budōkai Anaunsaa)

Exactly what the title says, a nameless blonde-haired ring announcer who presides over the Tenkaichi Budokai tournaments (the official ones anyway). After a few encounters with Goku and his friends, he eventually starts to know them on a first-name basis. He is always excited when they come to enter since something is bound to happen when they get in the ring.

• Ascended Extra: Considering he is always featured when a (Earthly and official) tournament comes up. He even ages alongside the other characters with each appearance.
• Arbitrary Skepticism: Averted; he is one of the regular humans that is not affected by Weirdness Censor, and understands just how strong Goku and his friends are due to seeing them in action in multiple tournaments, even having seen Krillin die once only to be alive again by next tournament. So, when he meets Goku again after several years and sees the halo he has, and Goku explains he died fighting Cell seven years ago and is just back for one day, he says as crazy as it sounds he'd be a fool to not believe Goku by now.
• Combat Commentator: It's what he does. Though in a bit of a twist he doesn't actually understand most of the fighting techniques himself, so he usually doesn't explain the details of how they work.
• Cool Shades: He is never seen without his trademark sunglasses, throughout all of his appearances.
• Deadpan Snarker: On occasion when Mr. Satan's around. He will proclaim Mr. Satan's awesomeness to the crowd (that's his job, after all), but it seems he is aware of the "Champ's" shortcomings.
  Mr. Satan: Why are they all running away! Don't they know I'm here?
  Announcer: Well, you didn't exactly stop that guy from blowing up the stadium earlier...
• Determinator: While he'll get clear if a ring destroying attack presents itself, he'll always make sure to keep announcing the action to the bitter end.
  Announcer: This is horrible!!! It's awful!!! The so-called Demon Junior is really the Demon King Piccolo!!
  Bulma: ... What a pro...
• Large-Ham Announcer: His job is basically to get the crowd at the tournaments riled up, and he is really good at it. In private he's a bit more subdued.
• The Last DJ: He's one of the few not to buy any of Mr. Satan's lies, and even thought Goku was the one who defeated Cell (close enough). When seeing all of Goku's old and new friends, he comments that the last few tournaments were boring, and looked forward to new fights.
• Nice Guy: A very kind, sensible person who's fairly cheery and happy to see Goku and friends whenever they pop up.
• No Name Given: Yes, through all of his appearances. Toriyama never saw fit to give him a name.
• Not Allowed to Grow Old: Averted. Unlike the main cast, which is either composed out of Saiyans, Namekians, or absurdly youthful humans that don't look their age, the Tournament Announcer is shown to clearly age like a normal human between appearances. He looks like a man in his mid-twenties during the first Tournament Goku enters, but by the series' Distant Finale he has started balding, has a wrinkled face, and a slightly hunched posture.
• Only Sane Man: Particularly notable in the first tournament, when he points out the countless problems Roshi has probably created by destroying the moon. Of course, he's not that much saner than the rest of the cast; his attention quickly turns to its ramifications to the match at hand.
• Put on a Bus: After the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament, he was gone for 237 chapters (214 episodes if you go by the anime adaptations), nearly five years in real-life time, as the story grew beyond the Earth's limits and bigger and badder enemies became the series norm. The main cast had already begun to outgrow the boundaries of the tournament's restrictions as evidenced by all the times the ring was damaged during the matches of that last tournament (to say nothing of Piccolo practically leveling the entirety of Papaya Island along with the grounds in the finals). When he made his comeback in the 25th Tournament, it was a welcome sight after having to put up with the ZTV Announcer for the duration of the Cell Games.
• Running Gag: Forgetting to start the ten-count every time someone gets knocked down. He's usually staring in shock until someone reminds him.
• Secret-Keeper: He knows exactly how strong Goku and his friends are, and easily figures out that Goku and his friends were responsible for killing Cell rather than Mr. Satan, but agrees to keep it to himself.
• Seen It All: He's known Goku since he was a kid and has been there in every tournament since. So, when Goku tells him straight to his face that he's been dead for seven years and is revived for one day, he says that after all he's seen him do, it'd be kinda stupid to doubt him.^note Especially as he had been there when Krillin had been killed and when he enrolled in the next tournament and said he'd been brought back to life.
• Weirdness Censor: Averted, as, since he's been around since Dragon Ball classic, he's well aware that Ki is a thing (and a forgotten art for the populace as a whole).

Giran (ギラン)

A quarterfinalist in the 21st World Martial Arts Tournament and a member of a race of pterodactyl-like dinosaurs called the Giras. A bully and a thug, Giran surrendered to Goku in the tournament after Goku beat his tricks and effortlessly destroyed a wall. He would meet Goku again later, having reformed a bit.

• Acrofatic: He is surprisingly fast and agile despite his girth.
• Alas, Poor Villain: For all his faults, he was not a downright evil person, and many viewers undoubtedly rooted for him during his hopeless fight against Tambourine.
• Amusing Injuries: He hurts his hands punching Tambourine and reacts with a goofy expression, what happens immediately after is definitely not Played for Laughs though.
• Asshole Victim: Was murdered by Tambourine after terrorizing an animal village and stealing food.
• Back for the Dead: After the 21st Tournament, as well as the filler episode immediately following it, he isn't seen again until the King Piccolo saga where Tambourine immediately kills him. Unlike most examples of this trope though, he's eventually brought back to life.
• Big Eater: Seen eating an entire plate of chicken before his match.
• Break the Haughty: Like any other villain in the early part of Dragon Ball, fighting Goku puts him in his place. He surrenders by pathetically waving a small white flag upon realizing he's in a fight that he can't possibly win.
• Breath Weapon: His Merry-Go-Round Gum, a rubbery substance that he uses to bind his opponents. Goku wasn't strong enough to break it until his tail grew back.
• The Brute: Relies primarily on raw strength.
• Bullying a Dragon: Four monks from Orinji Temple mock him in a filler scene for drinking milk from a gigantic glass, and extend their insults to the whole 21st Tenkaichi for the finalists including two children (never mind one of the children had annihilated one of their fellow monks), an old geezer, and a "milk monster". At which point Giran knocks them out in the time it takes to refill the glass.
• The Cameo: He makes a quick appearance alongside two other giras in the anime version of the Kid Buu arc offering his energy to Goku's Spirit Bomb, though this was after Mr. Satan demanded that the Earthlings lend a hand, not Goku himself.
• Combat Pragmatist: Used sneak attacks to try to get the edge on his opponent.
• Curb Stomp Cushion: Of all of Tambourine's victims, Giran is the only one to give some meaningful resistance, slowing him down with the Merry-Go-Round Gum and getting a good hit in with his tail. Tambourine himself was surprised when he felt the tail attack and killed him on the spot.
• Defiant to the End: He may be a bully who enjoys picking on those weaker than him, but he is not a Dirty Coward — best evidenced when he fought Tambourine to the bitter end, even when it became clear to him that he was hopelessly outmatched.
• Early Installment Character-Design Difference: In the manga, Giran has three toes on each foot during the 21st World Martial Arts Tournament, but his appearance in the King Piccolo Saga gives him four toes. The anime version at first matches his design from the manga at the tournament plus his appearance in the Roaming Lake filler, but his showing in the King Piccolo Saga, as well as his cameo in the Kid Buu Saga, depict him with five fingers and four toes on each foot. Another change in the King Piccolo Saga was his underbelly becoming more lime-colored as opposed to its original dark tan.
• Eviler than Thou: Tambourine shows him what a real monster is.
• Fat Slob: Has a beer belly and is wasteful of food. The former appears to be a trait shared by all giras rather than something specific to Giran himself, however.
• Good Is Not Nice: Even when he acts well he can still be a jerk and a bully, but ultimately is rather reasonable.
• Heel–Face Turn: In the anime especially when a filler episode shows Goku helping his village.
• Informed Attribute: According to the Daizenshuu 7 character dictionary, he weights 210 kilograms (462lbs) for a height of 197cm (6,45ft). Seeing him next to Kid Goku◊ (who is stated to be one meter tall), it becomes obvious that Giran's height should actually be closer to three meters (9,85ft) tall and given his massive frame, huge gut and thick tail, he would most likely weight at least twice his official weight if not more.
• Jabba Table Manners: He gets a huge plate of chicken, but he only takes one bite out of each piece and then throws the piece to the floor. Nam scolds him for wasting food, but he ignores him. When Goku tries to pick up the chicken on the floor and eat it, he tells Goku not to steal from him.
• Jerkass: Claims during a filler scene that he hates goody-goods, specifically that they give him a rash when Yamcha confronts his excessive beating of the Orin Temple Monks. That said, he will show respect to those who have proven themselves against him, as he did to Goku when he allowed the boy to unblock the dam causing the drought in Nam's village in an anime filler.
• Jerkass Has a Point: Rightly calls foul when Goku avoids a ring-out with the Nimbus Cloud.
• Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Threatens to kill people who get in his way, but the furthest he gets is just acting like a bully. He was revived by the Dragon Balls twice and he has a couple of Pet the Dog moments so he’s not evil.
• Know When to Fold Them: He gives Goku a hard time in their fight and even would've won via ring out if it hadn't been for Nimbus saving Goku (though he had it contested and Goku was prohibited from using it further). However, once Goku grows his tailback, breaks free of the Merry-Go-Round Gum, and destroys a part of the ring's wall as a test of strength, he's scared witless and quickly forfeits.
• A Lizard Named "Liz": A giras named Giran. Bonus points for actually being some kind of reptile!
• Mighty Roar: Before his match with Goku, he lets out a large roar to assert dominance. He does it a second time in the anime after a sudden downpour postpones the match for a spell.
• Older Than They Look: His cameo in the Majin Buu arc doesn't show him looking much different from his last appearance in the King Piccolo arc. It may just be a trait of his species.
• Pet the Dog: Despite his brutish personality, he's not a Sore Loser, as the next time Goku meets Giran, he's quick to tell the other members of his group about his strength and that he deserves respect. Also, he has no trouble allowing Goku to destroy the dam holding up the water in Giras' pond when he learns that it's necessary to bring back the water to Nam's village (and shares a cheerful laugh with him when he manages to do so).
• Real Men Wear Pink: His favorite drink is milk, and, according to the Daizenshuu 7 character dictionary, he likes to knit. He's also a former bully and thug who should not be taken lightly. When four Orinji Temple monks mock him for ordering milk at a bar, he beats the snot out of them in the time it takes the bartender to refill the glass.
• Smarter Than You Look: He looks like just a foolish brute, but he's smart enough to fight dirty and effectively take advantage of the tournament rules, and give up when he's outmatched.
• Stout Strength: Despite his big fat gut, he is a pretty tough fighter. At least, for the standards of the early part of Dragon Ball anyways.
• Tail Slap: One of his signature attacks.
• Top-Heavy Guy: Like all the other members of his race, Giran has very short legs. However, they are pretty thick and strong-looking, and the way he (and the other giras for that matter) appear to be "crouching" whenever they aren't actually walking imply that it's a normal aspect of his kind's anatomy.
• Yellow Eyes of Sneakiness: His sclera are colored yellow in the anime and he's one of the less-pleasant competitors.

Namu/Nam (ナム, Namu)

A semifinalist in the 21st World Martial Arts Tournament. Entered the tournament to buy water for his drought-afflicted village. Despite his best efforts, he’s bested by Goku in the end. Master Roshi gives him a capsule to get water to his village and later in a filler episode, they get their own water supply flowing back to the village. He returns for the next tournament in filler but is defeated by Tenshinhan in the preliminaries.

• Apologetic Attacker: When using his strongest move on Goku, he mentally apologizes. He also does this when Ranfan fakes injuries from his "attacks", and even after knocking her out, he worries that he used more force than was necessary.
• Combat Pragmatist: When Goku faints due to too much spinning during their match, Nam attacks, choosing between throwing him out of the ring or a Ground Pound, and settles for the latter for fear of Goku's tail tripping him again.
• Did Not Think This Through: He once attempts his Tenku Pekeji Ken on a pteranodon who tried to eat him. Yes, as in a pterosaur; a reptile that flies.
• Earn Your Happy Ending: Not only does he get the water to provide for his village regardless of the fact he lost a rather important tournament for him, but Goku helps break the dam causing a drought for his people, meaning Nam's village can prosper once again.
• Facial Markings: His bindi (the mark on his forehead).
• Genre Refugee: As a serious, stoic martial artist with sympathetic motivations, he would seamlessly fit into one of the manga's later storylines. However, he debuts in the 21st Tenkaichi Budokai arc, at which point the manga was still firmly a gag-filled farce, so his appearance was considered quite incongruous. Roshi, in a fourth-wall-breaking moment, lampshades that he looks too serious to be in a gag manga.
• Graceful Loser: Is quick to congratulate Goku for defeating him. Especially noteworthy considering how much was at stake for him.
• Ground Pound: Namu's most powerful move, though he actually turns around after the jump to slam head-and-arms-first into the target.
• In a Single Bound: Weaponized. See Ground Pound.
• Killed Offscreen: Tambourine kills him near the start of the King Piccolo arc, but it's never depicted even in the anime. We do see him get revived after Goku proves himself to Kami, however.
• Martial Pacifist: Only fights so he can get the money to buy water for his dying village.
• Nice Guy: Mentions on multiple occasions that he doesn't really like hurting people, and is pure-hearted enough to ride the Nimbus cloud during his appearance in a filler episode.
• The Quiet One: Rarely talks.
• Race Lift: Was strangely given much lighter skin in Dragon Ball: Advanced Adventure for the Game Boy Advance.
• Religious Bruiser: A Buddhist who strictly adheres to Thou Shalt Not Kill.
• Secret-Keeper: Master Roshi eventually fills him in on his secret identity. Namu even helps him maintain the charade in gratitude for giving him the free water.
• The Stoic: Rarely shows any emotion...
  • Not So Stoic: Until something crazy happens, getting him to react with the funniest looks. Also, he was almost childishly happy when he discovered he was speaking with Muten Roshi.
• Weak, but Skilled: Is overpowered by both Goku and Tenshinhan, but is the first character to show the ability to sense ki.
• The Worf Effect: Suffers a brutal beatdown from Tenshinhan in the filler 22nd preliminaries, to show how dangerous Tenshinhan was.

Ranfan (ランファン)

A quarterfinalist in the 21st World Martial Arts Tournament. A competent fighter in her own right, Ranfan used her feminine ways to either seduce her opponents or pretend to be a frail, sensitive woman. She is eventually defeated by her opponent, Namu, after he ignores the fanservice.

• Action Girl: Her methods aside, she’s the first known female fighter in the tournaments, and her punches are so fast and hard they literally sizzle.
• Adaptation Dye-Job: Has orange-red hair in the manga, which was changed to purple for the anime.
• Afro Asskicker: She has a huge purple (orange-red in the manga) afro on top of being a martial artist.
• Combat Pragmatist: Using her looks and Gazelle Gambit (below) to leave opponents open to a knockout or a ring out with her great strength.
• Expy: Of a character from Doctor Slump named Renault Citroen; she shares the same design and fighting style as Ranfan.
• Informed Flaw: Her character notes state that she dislikes "little twerps". She shows no sign of this in the manga or anime and actually finds Goku in time so he doesn't miss his match with Giran.
• Jerkass: Aside from being a dirty fighter, she is also an underwear thief. If it's men's underwear she steals, not only would that make her a Distaff Counterpart of Master Roshi and Oolong in the "disgusting pervert" department, but, since she's married, that would also make her unfaithful. She is also said to be a child hater, but that's an Informed Flaw.
• Lascivious Beauty Mark: She has a mole on her left cheek, and is quite happy to show off her body to gain an advantage.
• Ms. Fanservice: Weaponized. When the Wounded Gazelle Gambit is no longer effective, she strips down to her undergarments and tries to back the squeamish Nam out of the ring.
• Panty Thief: Inverted. Akira Toriyama states that Ranfan has a hobby of collecting (presumably men's) underwear. Seems that Ranfan not only uses her sex appeal to gain an advantage over heterosexual male opponents, but she is also a pervert. Either that or she steals other women's underwear and makes it her own.
• Pet the Dog: Minor case, she helped other fighters to find the missing Goku, and is actually the one who found him sleeping and immediately told everyone to retrieve him.
• Shameless Fanservice Girl: Strips down to her underwear to seduce Namu.
• Show Some Leg: Her most-powerful tactic is stripping down to her bra and panties to shock male opponents.
• What Happened to the Mouse?: She just disappears after helping to find Goku in time for his match with Giran. Unlike Nam, Giran, and Bacterian who get return appearances in filler scenes and in the King Piccolo arc, Ranfan only appears as a photo in the tournament roster that Tambourine steals in order to kill all the martial artists (plus a single frame when Master Roshi reminisces about the good old days during the Cell arc filler).
• Wounded Gazelle Gambit: Part of her fighting strategy was screaming before Namu hit her, then collapsing on the ground crying after dealing a weak chop to the arm.

Bacterian (バクテリアン, Bakuterian)

A quarterfinalist in the 21st World Martial Arts Tournament. He is a massive, disheveled, fat man with an unbearable stench due to the fact that he supposedly has never bathed once in his entire life. Krillin defeated him due to Krillin farting in his face.

• Alas, Poor Villain: Poor jerkass, really, but the same feel is there. While he's certainly not a great guy from what we see of him, and he doesn't display anything redeeming unlike Giran, he most certainly didn't do anything to deserve being electrocuted by a demon and sent to limbo.
• Ass Kicks You: Whether just sitting on his opponent rubbing it in their face or smashing them with his Ground Pound.
• Breath Weapon: Using his bad breath or Deep Throated Mucus Filled Loogie Of Death.
• The Brute: On top of smelling like a sewer, he is quite strong.
• The Dreaded: Due to his stench, the other contestants didn't want to fight him.
• Dumb Muscle: Exaggerated in the English dub where he's given Hulk Speak, but otherwise has herculian strength in addition to his foul odor.
• Early-Bird Cameo: He appears slightly earlier in the anime when Bulma, Oolong, and Puar are trying to watch the preliminaries (which spectators are forbidden from viewing). He peers his hideous mug through the window, scaring Bulma and Puar and making them fall with the commotion that the former causes on Oolong's shoulders.
• Fartillery: One of his attacks is to fart in people's faces.
• Fat Bastard: One of the biggest people at the World Martial Arts Tournament.
• Fat Slob: Has never taken a bath in his life.
• Gonk: He's anything but handsome and he's disgusting since he never cleans himself.
• Groin Attack: Inverted. He reaches down his pants, grabs his junk, and then uses that hand to attack, paralyzing his opponent with Squick.
• Ground Pound: Goes up and down when squishing Krillin before releasing the gas.
• Hated by All: All of the audience members were chanting for Krillin to beat Bacterian if only to get rid of his nasty scent. Earlier, all the fellow participants showed pity for Krillin when they realized that he'd be fighting the nasty old giant in the first round.
• High-Voltage Death: Tambourine electrocutes Bacterian to death on the streets.
• Hoist by His Own Petard: Despite besting Krillin for most of the match and despite having his own nasty odor, he's knocked out by the little boy’s own gas.
• Homeless Hero: "Hero" is a strong word, but his appearance in the Piccolo arc shows him to be destitute and was buried in a landfill upon his death.
• Hulk Speak: In the English dubs. In Japanese, he's a bit more refined.
• Jerkass: Is not a pleasant man in either scent or personality. Unlike Giran, who's no saint himself, Bacterian demonstrates no redeeming qualities and takes a perverse amount of pleasure in beating on poor Krillin.
• Kick Them While They Are Down: After butt-smashing Krillin several times, Bacterian proceeds to stomp the former several times before he realized that he was imagining his opponent's smell.
• Laser-Guided Karma: After trying to overpower Krillin with his stench, he's beaten soundly by the noseless boy whose coup de grace is a fart in his face. His killer in the King Piccolo arc, Tambourine, also had no nose, though he mentions in the dub that the slaying was his "smelliest" job he's ever done.
• Mighty Glacier: He's strong but slow. He relies on his body odor to paralyze people.
• No Celebrities Were Harmed: He definitely looks like Bruiser Brody, albeit much fatter.
• The Pig-Pen: It's part of his fighting style.
• Signature Scent: So acute, you can smell him from miles and make people faint if they get too close.
• Teeth Flying: A moment in the anime shows Krillin kicking Bacterian in the face and sending a tooth flying. Had this been a more realistic setting, Bacterian might have lost all his teeth.
• Underwear of Power: Only wears shorts.
• You Need a Breath Mint: Weaponizes his own putrid breath which sends Krillin into a tizzy.

King Chappa (チャパ王, Chapa-Ō)

A former champion of the World Martial Arts Tournament who defeated his opponents without being touched. He participates in the 22nd and 23rd tournaments but is defeated both times in the preliminary round by Goku.

• Badass Normal: Won the world tournament without the benefit of using any ki abilities during a time when past and future winners alike (other than Hercule) used them prominently.
• Badass Teacher: Won the World Martial Arts Tournament without being touched and he teaches an entire school. Toyotarō, in an example of Word of Saint Paul, believes he was also Uub's trainer before he met Goku.
• Cosmic Plaything: You have to be this when you get Son Goku as an opponent on your first preliminary twice in a lifetime. Lampshaded by Yamcha, of all people (before he recognized Chappa). Not long after his first loss, he and all his students were murdered by a demon and sent into limbo. Talk about bad luck... The only silver lining was that he and his school got revived by the dragon balls.
• Rapid-Fire Fisticuffs: The Hasshu-ken technique, which Goku would teach himself.
• What Happened to the Mouse?: Why he didn't participate in the World Martial Arts Tournament where Mister Satan won is a mystery, as his fate is ambiguous.
• The Worf Effect: He was hyped by Jackie Chun for being the untouched victor of a previous tournament and Goku out-classes him in both of their matches.
  • Also happened when he and his entire school are murdered by Tambourine.

Man-Wolf (男狼, Otoko Ōkami)

A quarterfinalist in the 22nd World Martial Arts Tournament and a werewolf who sought revenge against Jackie Chun. Because Chun destroyed the moon during the last tournament, Goku, who turned into a Great Ape returned to normal, but Man-Wolf, who was a spectator, was stuck in his wolf form. Jackie Chun defeated him with ease and helped to cure him.

• Animorphism: Changes from wolf to man at a full moon.
• Bemoaning the New Body: Having been trapped in his wolf form since the 21st Tournament, he's not fond of it, saying that he was more handsome as a human, gets mistreated by others in his wolf form, and can't get a girlfriend.
• The Berserker: Even before their match began, he was literally chafing to get ahold of Jackie Chun.
• The Brute: While he may not be as skilled as he boasts, he destroyed a tree with just one punch.
• Butt-Monkey: Being defeated by ring out when your opponent sends you to fetch a bone makes you this.
• Combat Pragmatist: Pulled a knife on Jackie after he couldn’t lay a finger on him. It works about as well as one would expect.
• Curb-Stomp Battle: On the receiving end of one from Jackie Chun.
• Go Fetch: Jackie Chun took advantage of his canine instincts and tossed a bone out of bonds, making Man-Wolf retrieve it and costing him the match.
• Gonk: His human form is revealed to be a pudgy man with Mr. Popo-esque lips and a head like a gorilla's. Krillin even points out that he was fairly handsome in his wolf form.
• Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: The anime shows that he was killed by Tambourine with a wood pole through the chest.
• Informed Ability: It may have been how good Jackie Chun was, but he claimed that he was a black belt in Kenpo and that he was an ice skater. None of that skill and grace was ever shown.
• Informed Attractiveness: He described his human form as a stud but when we see it, it is not exactly prince charming. Jackie wonders if he even has mirrors where he lives.
• My Instincts Are Showing: Late in the match, Jackie Chun had Man-Wolf give him his paw, sit and fetch a bone. The last one cost him the match as he chased the bone out of the ring.
• Our Werewolves Are Different: Instead of turning into a wolf at the full moon, he turns into a man.
• Reused Character Design: A wolf fighter with his design, albeit with dark yellow fur, appears fighting in Intergalactic Tournament in Bojack Unbound.
• Unknown Rival: When he gives a Motive Rant explaining how Jackie's actions hurt him and proclaims his undying hatred of the man, Jackie gets so bored that he almost falls asleep.
• Werewolves Are Dogs: Played for Laughs. He has a grude against Jackie Chun (Master Roshi in disguise) for destroying the moon at the previous tournament and preventing him from returning to human form. This leads him to challenge Roshi in the World Martial Arts Tournament, however Roshi proceeds to repeatedly humiliate him by invoking his dog instincts. Man-Wolf is forced to shake hands, beg, and even chase after a thrown bone straight into out-of-bounds. Though Roshi does Pet the Dog (quite literally) by helping Man-Wolf regain his human form which is what he wanted.
• Wolverine Claws: Not that it does him any good against Jackie Chun.

Pamput (パンプット, Panputto)

A quarterfinalist in the 22nd World Martial Arts Tournament who was an undefeated Muay Thai fighter and movie star. His complete and utter ignorance of his opponent, Goku, along with his own arrogance led to him being defeated in the quickest Curb-Stomp Battle in all of Dragon Ball.

• Adaptation Expansion: His movie star background was only present in the anime. In the manga, he's just there for Goku to fight.
• Afro Asskicker: Like King Chappa above.
• Arrogant Kung-Fu Guy: “I’m Pamput and my best is the best.”
• Character Exaggeration: While arrogant in the original Japanese, Pamput comes across less like an Arrogant Kung-Fu Guy and more like an optimistic fighter who's a bit of an Upper-Class Twit. The English dubs, on the other hand, make him out as an insufferable jerkass with a huge ego that won't give his manager's advice the time of day.
• Charles Atlas Superpower: Destroyed a brick wall with his elbow!
• Chick Magnet: He has many fangirls, being a movie star and all.
• Glass Cannon: Foolishly rushed to get the first attack on Goku, completely letting his guard down as Goku delivered three quick strikes to the gut to knock him out.
• Pride: When given a chance in anime filler to learn up on Goku from his manager, Papmut cited his undefeated winning streak as a reason why he shouldn’t care.
• Overshadowed by Awesome: As Jackie Chun points out, Pamput is an accomplished martial artist, and had won two other international tournaments before. It's just that Goku is so friggin' powerful that their fight ends within seconds. His skill level might have been adequate at the previous Budokai.
• Suspiciously Similar Substitute: His skin tone, hair style, and quick loss to Goku are all things he shares in common with King Chappa, and even then, Chappa lasted a little longer against Goku in the anime.
• Walking Shirtless Scene: Very rarely wears a shirt.
• What Happened to the Mouse?: A variation. Tambourine is depicted killing him in the anime, but unlike with Namu and the others, he isn't shown being restored to life. He was presumably brought back offscreen, however.

Hero (シェン, Shen)

A semifinalist in the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament who was a nerdy, klutzy middle-aged man. It is later revealed that he is being possessed by Kami so he can defeat Piccolo Jr. for good. While Hero (under Kami’s control) defeats Yajirobe in the preliminaries and Yamcha in the quarterfinals, Piccolo bests him and temporarily traps Kami in a bottle. After that, Hero is released from Kami’s control, not remembering anything that happened while he was possessed.

• Anime Hair: As the picture provides.
• Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: It becomes easy when you have a badass literally hiding inside you.
• Dub Name Change: The Funimation dub changes his name from "Shen" to "Hero" because they had already named the Crane Hermit "Master Shen".
• Groin Attack: Pulled one on Yamcha by simply ducking his head as Yamcha delivered a flying kick.
• Living Bodysuit: He's possessed by Kami.
• Meaningful Name: "Shen" as in "Shenlong," meaning "God Dragon," the dragon created by God? Might he be... God in disguise?
• Nerd Glasses: One of the reasons why no one takes him seriously.
• No Name Given: Outside of Kami's alias, we never learn his true name after he's released.
• Obfuscating Stupidity: Acts like an idiot and a klutz up until near the end of the fight with Yamcha, and everyone but Yajirobe falls for it.
• Only Six Faces: He looks like a human version of Kami. It's a pretty strange coincidence that he becomes the latter's vessel.
• Stereotypical Nerd: Wears glasses, a white t-shirt, and a pocket protector. He's pretty much the poster child. He's even called a nerd by several people.
• So Proud of You: His son comes up to him after Kami leaves his body and excitedly tells Hero that he's the strongest guy alive. If only he knew the real story...
• Underestimating Badassery: Up until he dropped the act against Yamcha, the only one who took him seriously was Yajirobe. And that was only after underestimating himself and getting humiliated for it.
• What Did I Do Last Night?: When Kami releases Shen from his possession, Shen is left wondering how in the world he ended up in the ring, and if he was drunk.

Mighty Mask (マイティマスク, Maiti Masuku)

A quarterfinalist in the 25th World Martial Arts Tournament. He is taken out by a young Trunks and Goten and they steal his identity so they can compete in the tournament. He does not appear in the show after this but Trunks and Goten still use his identity until they are exposed by Android 18 and disqualified.

• Alliterative Name: His stage name anyway.
• All Men Are Perverts: Trunks manages to lure him into getting knocked out by telling him that a pretty girl wanted to talk to him. The original English version changed Trunks' lie to a "scrawny guy" claiming he could beat Mighty Mask at arm wrestling for money.
• Contrived Coincidence: A fighter who is covered from head to toe participated at the same time Trunks and Goten needed a disguise.
• In the Hood: Wears one that looks similar to that of an executioner.
• Legacy Character: Not like he had a choice after Trunks and Goten jumped him.
• The Worf Effect: Good enough to make it to the quarterfinals of the tournament, but even by human fighter standards, Killa and Jewel thought he was weak in the 24th tournament.

Pintar (プンター, Puntā)

A quarterfinalist in the 25th World Martial Arts Tournament. After relentlessly picking on his opponent for his small stature, that opponent, Krillin, beats him senseless.

• Acrofatic: He is quite agile for his size, not that it helped him against Krillin.
• "Arabian Nights" Days: Has an outfit similar to the Mid-Eastern style of the trope.
• Fat Bastard: His relentless bullying of Krillin for his size made his swift defeat by Krillin very satisfying.
• Lightning Bruiser: He apparently smashed an opponent in the 24th tournament so hard he crushed part of the ring, but he's also fast and agile enough to backflip around the ring in seconds. Among normal humans, this guy would be a serious threat. Unfortunately for him, his opponent is not normal.
• No Shirt, Long Jacket: Not a jacket, but a vest is close enough.
• Tempting Fate: So convinced of his guaranteed victory over his tiny opponent that he arrogantly offered Krillin a free shot, shoving his massive gut right in Krillin's face. Krillin was so fed up with his idiocy by this stage that he buried his fist in that gut to the elbow. If he hadn't been holding back, he might have snapped Pintar in half.
• The Worf Effect: A massive Goliath of a man who made it to the 24th tournament’s semi-finals. Krillin defeats him with very, very little effort.

Jewel (ジュエール, Juēru)

A quarterfinalist in the 25th World Martial Arts Tournament. This ladies' man was defeated in the Battle Royal of the remaining tournament competitors by Android 18 after his pick-up line failed to woo her.

• Agent Peacock: Fought Hercule in the 24th tournament finals. From a baseline human perspective, he’s got the looks and the skills.
• Casanova Wannabe: Despite his reputation as a ladies man, Android 18 was not the least bit fazed by his flirting.
• Long-Haired Pretty Boy: A blonde shoulder-length hairstyle.
• Not Good with Rejection: He was incensed that 18 turned down his offer to take her out and attacked for it...not that he was ever a threat to her.
• Small Name, Big Ego: After 18 shoots down his advances Jewel attacked her in a fit of pique. It didn't hurt her and she kicks him out of the ring.
• Suspiciously Similar Substitute: To Caroni, Mr. Satan's student from the Cell Saga. Unlike Caroni, however, Jewel is canon to the manga.

Killa (キーラ, Kīra)

A quarterfinalist in the 25th World Martial Arts Tournament. In the Battle Royal of the remaining competitors, he is ringed out by Mighty Mask (really Goten and Trunks in disguise).

• Combat Pragmatist: Tried to form an alliance with Mighty Mask (Trunks and Goten) to eliminate Mr. Satan from the battle royal. Mighty Mask turned him down.
• Extremity Extremist: All his attacks involve punching, the way he’s dressed suggests he’s a boxer.
• Motor Mouth: Only in the Funimation dub of Z. To the point where half the stuff he says is gibberish.
• Mr. Exposition: The audience sees his memories of the last tournament and competitors like Spopovich and Pintar through flashbacks.
• Names to Run Away from Really Fast: Seriously, "Killa"? Is like he wants you to think he's a killer.
• Not Good with Rejection: Non-romantic example. He gets pissed that "Mighty Mask" turns down his idea to gang up on Mr. Satan, thinking that "he's" gotten a big head, and attacks him when the Battle Royale begins. It does not end well for him.

Captain Chicken (キャプテン・チキン, Kyaputen Chikin)

A quarterfinalist in the 28th World Martial Arts Tournament. As his name implies, he's a chicken-themed superhero.

• Animal-Themed Superbeing: A rooster-man.
• Large Ham: As expected for someone dressed as a bird.
• Screw This, I'm Outta Here: In the anime, he and Nok flee the tournament after seeing Goku and Uub fight.

Nareg (キラーノ, Kirāno)

A quarterfinalist in the 28th World Martial Arts Tournament.

• Chick Magnet: The girls in the crowd were squealing when they saw him!
• Dub Name Change: He went from Killerno to Nareg in Funimation's dub of Z and to Giron in the Ocean dub. Funimation's dub of Kai reverted his name back to Killerno.
• The Generic Guy: Has no quirks or powers to speak of.
• Informed Ability: Vegeta notes that his power is above average for a human, but this is given no further attention.
• The Pretty Guys Are Stronger: Subverted. While he is implied to be stronger than some of the other participants, he's leagues below the main characters and Uub.

Otokosuki (オトコスキー, Otokosukī)

A quarterfinalist in the 28th World Martial Arts Tournament. A large, openly gay man.

• The Cameo: He shows up in Dragon Ball SD decades before his canon appearance in the scene where Goku is tasked with kidnapping a pretty young woman for Roshi, replacing the overweight bodybuilding woman from the canon series.
• Flat Character: Aside from his sexuality, we don't get much insight into his character.
• Leatherman: Sans the jacket, but he's clearly this.
• Macho Camp: Well-built and manly-looking, but very effeminate.
• Meaningful Name: His name is Japanese for "Boy-love".
• Stalker with a Crush: Possibly one for Trunks. He made the occasional pass at him during the tournament and briefly appears in GT as a Capsule Corp. employee.

Nok (ノック, Nokku)

A quarterfinalist in the 28th World Martial Arts Tournament. He's knocked out by Vegeta before he can participate.

• Adaptation-Induced Plot Hole: His running away from the tournament with Captain Chicken in the finale has a tournament monk warn them not to since it'll mean forfeiting the event. While Chicken is still in the tournament at the moment, Vegeta explicitly told the tournament staff that Nok had "forfeited" i.e. was smacked into a wall for antagonizing the former, and his name is seen crossed out of the directory, leaving no wiggle room.
• Bullying a Dragon: Mouths off to Vegeta, who calmly smacks him into a wall.
• Screw This, I'm Outta Here: In the anime, he and Captain Chicken flee the tournament after seeing Goku and Uub fight.
• Small Name, Big Ego: Giving attitude doesn't bode well for his sense of discipline.
• Smug Snake: From what little we see of him, he has an over-inflated arrogance.

Wild Tiger (猛血虎, Mō Kekko)

A quarterfinalist in the 28th World Martial Arts Tournament. He fights Pan and is beaten in seconds.

• Curb-Stomp Battle: Courtesy of Pan.
• Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: Non-romantic variety with Pan.
• Underestimating Badassery: Insulted that his first opponent is a little girl. He should have realized that little girl or not, she's still qualified for a martial arts tournament.
• The Worf Effect: This large, muscular man is utterly humiliated by a toddler.
