*KarmaHoudiniWarranty: Despite Roman seemingly ending the Undertaker's career at WrestleMania XXXIII, the Deadman surprisingly handles his second loss at WrestleMania with grace, unlike with his previous defeat by Brock Lesnar three years earlier. He even assists Roman in his feud with Shane McMahon and Drew McIntyre in 2019. Fast-forward tofive years later to Night 2 of WrestleMania XL. Undertaker comes to the aid of Cody Rhodes to end Roman's reign as Undisputed WWE Universal Champion. Whether this is Undertaker seeking revenge for his loss seven years ago or for another motive, karma has finally caught up with Roman.

*RuleOfSymbolism:
**One of Roman's signature moves is called the Superman Punch. While it was given this name to showcase Roman's power, it also represents WWE's attempt to position him as their future superstar, much like how Superman is the poster boy for DC Comics. However, this endeavor has not been well received by fans, who believe that Roman's character and physical attributes do not align with the archetype of an All-American Hero or a KidAppealCharacter, as exemplified by John Cena and Hulk Hogan in the past. The lack of popularity with fans frustrates Roman to no end, eventually rotting away his sanity and ultimately causes him to turn heel in 2020. This likens to storylines in which Superman (or his expies) becomes a villain after being pushed too much.
**When Vince [=McMahon=], the guy who constantly pushed Roman to be the top star for the past decade non-stop, steps down as chairman in 2022 following several allegations of sexual misconduct, this gives fans a glimmer of hope that Roman will finally relinquish the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship after his reign has grown stale after holding it for two years and he has been defending his title less frequently. Many believe that Cody Rhodes is the front-runner to win at [=WrestleMania=] 39. However, Vince's unexpected return before the event not only signifies his reclaiming of power but also Roman's triumph over Cody, allowing him to retain his title for another year. Fast-forward to 2024, Vince once again steps down following further allegations. This not only signifies Vince's removal from power but also marks the moment when Roman finally relinquishes the championship at [=WrestleMania=] XL.

* Wrestling/SethRollins beat him to the first world title, famously cashing in on what was meant to be his coronation at Wrestlemania 31. It's been pointed out that over their decade-long WWE careers, Reigns has never officially won a title match against Rollins. Technically speaking, Rollins was the only person he didn't beat in a title defense during his near 4 year run as champion from 2020-2024. He physically dominated the match, but Rollins' mind games got under his skin to the point where he ended up losing the match by disqualification.

** It turns out that this was because Roman was traumatized by Seth's betrayal of the Shield, which is now cited as the #1 reason Roman leads his family via fear and not kindness. Seth all but says that his actions back in 2014 created the Tribal Chief.

** This trope was basically in full effect whenever he wrestled from then until Wrestlemania 40, which only a couple of exceptions.

* TraumaButton: Anything related to Wrestling/TheShield, particularly its violent breakup. Also serves as a BerserkButton as this will drive Reigns absolutely spare.
** When Seth Rollins showed up to their Wrestling/RoyalRumble 2022 match in full Shield mode along with entrance and original outfit, Roman's initial reaction was undiluted PTSD. That match ended with Roman refusing to let go of a Guillotine Choke on Rollins even though the latter was both passed out and had his hand on the ropes. Reigns got disqualified.
** Wrestling/SamiZayn cracking Roman with a chair in similar fashion to the Shield betrayal at the '23 Rumble sent Roman over the edge again once he registered what had happened, and he could be heard shouting at the rest of the Bloodline to kill Sami.
** Finally, Rollins exploited this for all its worth at Wrestlemania XL, running (or rather, limping) in to Reigns' Championship match with Wrestling/CodyRhodes. This caused Roman to turn his attention from Rhodes to beating on Rollins for revenge - just as Rollins had planned. It gave Cody time to recover and cost Reigns the match and the title he'd held for well over 1,000 days.
