The lesson he learned while held in prison and suffering beatings from the Senate's hatchetman (who later turns out to be [[spoiler:Whirl of all people]])? Peaceful resistance would never actually affect the Senate in any meaningful way, nor could he rely on reformers to actually succeed in overcoming the corrupt; the only message that the Senate could not ignore, was massive amounts of applied violence. Cue Megatron taking his first life in a worker riot, and then collecting his first Decepticon followers.
