Here's the interview in question: https://www.gameinformer.com/faq/2023/01/24/who-owns-pokemon

TLDR:Masuda explains what is the relationship of the owners of the pokemon IP.

Hmm, what I got from that is not that Nintendo can't force Game Freak to do something, but that they choose not to.

Granted, they could probably apply pressure to any third party company to do things a certain way or else refuse to allow a game on their platforms, so it's probably moot.

Yeah of course Nintendo and TPC has no control over GF.

Like what I said (which is something also mentioned in that interview article by the way), Nintendo is equal to GF in terms of ownership, and GF is one of the three owners to begin with. So TPC is on a lower rank essentially, than GF.
To actually have control over GF, you have to be higher than GF in the hierarchy, but nothing is higher than GF, Creatures, and Nintendo in the hierarchy.

But I was talking about Nintendo having some control over the IP, the franchise, not GF or TPC. Like, as the sole distributor who also co-own the franchise, Nintendo logically would have a say for something like when they can release the game.

Mainline Pokemon has never been a launch title for any console. The only game to even come out the year of its console's launch was Let's Go, and even that was 8 months after the Switch released. I doubt that's going to change for the next console.

[down]Oh yeah, you're right, I got the years mixed up. So there's never been a Pokemon game released the same year as its console.

Nope, Let's Go was a year and a half after the Switch's release. USUM was the Pokemon game that released 8 months after the Switch.

Well, we are in uncharted waters anyways as ZA is likely going to at least be a cross gen launch year title.

I fully suspect Game Freak will want to take advantage of whatever power the Switch's successor will bring for those who choose to play it on there.

And it should be noted that its going to be a Switch game with improvements rather than a downgraded next gen game.

Actually, scratch that, we aren't in uncharted waters because B 2 W 2 are cross gen games as well and at least take advantage of the 3DS's better Wi Fi when played on one.

Yeah because GF preferred to release on hand held consoles, which they can't do anymore, so their efforts are now on Nintendo's main console now.
You're assuming Nintendo handhelds are gone for good and that from now on we'll only have consoles when there's no evidence of that. Z-A can be a Switch exclusive or cross-gen even if there's a new console. Especially if Nintendo decides to bring back handhelds alongside the new console.

They aren’t getting rid of the hybrid system anytime soon.

Went back to SWSH for the first time in over a year. I wish the job system was in S/V. It was a fun way of level grinding and using all the spare Pokémon you have.

I have a feeling that if a BW remake comes out it'll be closer to BDSP than HGSS or ORAS.

A quick reminder: The switch's existence was announced 2 years before its actual launch. Its bery likely switch 2 doesnr come out before gen 10, which would as per usual keep the games on the console one more gen before new hardware comes out.

If the next console isn't out by 2 years from now, the Switch would have had quite the long life.

Highly doubt it’s gonna take that long. The switch was announced so early due to the Wii U being a failure.

[up][up][up] Nintendo announced the Switch 2 years out because their business was floundering (mainly with the Wii U) and they were going into the mobile business with De NA. Announcing the NX then was saying, "we aren't leaving the hardware making business by going into mobile."

This announcement is more like what happened in 2016, we are likely to see the full unveiling this year with the launch shortly afterwards. Unlike with the Switch, they aren't confirming a release date yet though.

The announcement specifically stated how long since they've announced Switch.

I think they draw attention to that because they want to release the successor as soon as possible. So I'd say it will release before Gen 10.

The Wii U was announced on April 25, 2011, and was released on November 18, 2012, so over a year and a half.

So, have we ever figured out how Water Pokemon more based off fish then bipedal or quadrapedal animals battle on land?

I know they all seem to be able to breath air as well, but what does Goldeen/Seaking or Horsea/Seadra/Kingdra and Luvdisc do if they aren't near water.

The anime tends to avoid showing them levitate like they do in the games (and I think that's still a thing even with Horizons) so I find myself wondering what happens.

In the anime, fish-based water Pokemon are frequently depicted as useless on land. There's no hint of how they aren't in the games.

My assumption growing up was that fish-like Pokemon being useful on land is Gameplay and Story Segregation. Having said that, them being useful on land narratively would probably be a smarter choice.

Maybe for Gen X they'll give the fishmons a bowl to swim in like how every Pokémon that doesn't swim gets a float when you're battling over water. tongue

Wailord's density is so low it can probably swim through the air.
