I checked, it's playing 2PM from where I'm in.

Already booked tickets for three.

Just got out of the movie. Holy shit it was good. I had so much fun spotting the Spiders while my friends were so lost.

More thoughts later.

I also saw it, and have a different opinion.

It's...mid at best. Definitely will need to see the second part for a complete picture, but take away all the memes, cameos and call-backs and it's a very dry, cliché, and convoluted mess and it somehow makes me want to punch every Spider for going completely against character

I had a feeling that the thing the Spider corps are advocating for is going to be a major split for the fanbase.

It doesn’t help the rules for the canon are completely arbitrary, and LETTING tragedy happen is just such an antithetical message to Spider-Man as a whole.

But I do like where it leads. More thoughts later.

[up] Oh absolutely I'm willing to let the story ride out, It's kind of like how I judged Into The Spider-Verse for all the Peter B Parker reels they showed depicting him as a loser, and then the movie had him learn how to be an adult and patch up with MJ so it's not like everyone's gonna stay in the same spot.

Just saw it, it was amazing, left me breathless (but not lost) multiple times with how much was going on and how captivating it was. I managed to avoid seeing any trailer, and it paid off because I was constantly surprised about what happened next. Can't wait until March to see the second half of the story.

Also, I did said out loud "the bagel guy" when they revealed the Spot origins.

[up] I just know people are going to be pissed to learn that the universes actually forces torturous canon events like uncle and beloved police captains dying on EVERY Spider-person or their universe DIES.

[up]If you have seen What if? you know a Doctor Strange found something similar, trying to save Christine until he destroyed and reduced his universe into a single bubble.

On a light hearted note, Josh Keaton (Spectacular), Yuri Lowenthal (Insomniac) and Dan Slott got to see this movie's premiere.

[up][up]Yeah, I have seen that episode, and like the Doctor Strange episode, the rules for canon are totally arbitrary and for the sake of drama. Like Miguel points out Miles wasn't supposed to be a Spider-Man but getting bitten ended up killing blond Peter AND depriving Prowler Miles's universe of a Spider-Man but in that case, why isn't Miles's dimension collapsing when just saving the Police Captain guy in Mumbatten causes a collapse?

[up] I loved Josh Keaton's cameo in the movie, even though it's to tell Miles to let his dad die to save his universe, implying Spectacular Captain Stacy died.

Am I the only one who thinks people only love the Spider-Verse movies because of their animation/art style and not for the story and characters? Don't get me wrong I'm not saying they're bad, in fact, I was excited to watch the first Spider-Verse movie when it came out; but most of the reviews I came across praised these movies for the animation/art style (which I agree) but not so much for the characters and storytelling.

I'm the type of person who likes movies that have equally good visuals, good characters and good story. So if they're praising them only because of the visuals and not for the storytelling then I'm not interested (e.g. Avatar movies).

Having yet to see this film, I adored the first one for the characterization, voice cast and soundtrack as well.

People have consistently praised Miles's arc in the first film and how he develops into becoming his own Spider-Man, while also praising Peter B as one of the best versions of Peter Parker in any adaptation of Spider-Man.

Like, the animation gets praised heavily because it's some of the most distinctive work done in the medium, plus it's been a revolutionary gamechanger for the American animation industry. But the writing has been consistently praised as strong, funny, and emotional.

Yeah this movie has some great characterization, but I predict a certain plotpoint is going to be VERY controversial among certain people.

[up]X4: In a heightened and flexible visual medium like animation, I think it's justifiable to point out how notable the execution of it is. Especially at a time where most mainstream 3DCG films focused on being variants of Pixar's semi-cartoonish character designs against a realistic backdrop and lighting, and blurred motion.

Plus, it's not even the film's only praise. It's been fine years since the first, and people have been gradually pick out aspects of the film since. Characterization wise, ITSV was noted to have a stronger introduction to Miles' character compared to his initial comic counterpart, to the point where it's reactively coloring his other interpretations. Likewise, a mainstream adult Peter Parker that kind of addresses his developmently stunted streak in the comics.

The music too, including memes based on The Prowler's theme.

I have already been thinking a lot about the movie's apparent themes and story, especially dissecting the probable character stuff for Miles namely his "I'm gonna do my own thing" line and Miguel's "You either have a choice between saving one person or an entire world."

I have a lot of thoughts on it and I'm waiting to see the movie proper so I can fully formulate my thoughts on it.

I personally think that something else is going on with Miguel O'Hare's and Pavitr Prabhakar's universe than the "canon event" thing precisely because of this was the case then Miles universe and Universe 42 would have already been destroyed. My guesses are perhaps a spiteful Greater-Scope Villain being the cause of this.

[up][up] I suspect it might have something to do with the multiverse energy Spot is absorbing. Like remember, Spot's actions are what caused the captain to die or at least would have, and presumably that wasn't supposed to happen in that way. Then again, we still need an explanation for what really happened in the universe that Miguel went to. There have been so many worse canon event defilations in Miles's universe than what Miguel did yet that universe was destroyed.
