[up] Just think, we could've gotten a Western cartoon version of When Marnie Was There. XD

EDIT: TIL the original book was by a Brtiish author.

The movie apparently blew up in its first week on Disney+, being about #3 on the Nielsen Overall Chart and a high #1 on the Movies Chart too. Be interesting to see what kind of pace it keeps. If it stays steady for a while, maybe it earns a Cult Classic status after all.

Wish works thanks to its more simplistic aspects that help it relate back to what many Disney movies became both known and loved for—even if it admittedly should've been better developed than it was. While this is not a less is more-type movie, I could see it being enjoyed in that way though. As a kid, the more simplistic aspects of Disney movies were more than enough to make me happy—to the point that certain movies were worth putting on just for select scenes.

Magnifico as is basically established with the Wishes holds pieces of people's souls (their essences; their beings; their stories; their deepest, strongest desires that they've now been stripped of) in his possession and both gaslights and emotionally blackmails everyone into believing he's the only one who can protect them and making them worship him through being afraid of never getting their wishes granted. That's pretty freaking messed up if you really think about it.

The official Disney music YT channel put up the music video for "This Is the Thanks I Get?" tonight.

That was pointed out earlier in the thread already. It was also pointed why it's not that much of an accomplishment.

What would really make it a winner would be if it actually led to a lot of new subscribers.

I feel like "This is the Thanks I Get" would work better if the bobblehead people actually looked like the villagers in town, like how Frollo messed with Quadimodo's villager figurines.

Though it might be meant to be him dehumanizing them/seeing them as little pawns.

I still can't get over the "graphics"/visual design they went for this movie. Like the framerate wants to be a 2d animation but because the blatant cgi look it gives it an awkward, unfinished feel.

To the point that maybe they should've considered making the movie in outright 2D animation too.

This project probably changed hands over the years, which would likely give reason as to why it was so up and down in what it was trying to do. More than one vision was applied and it made for not necessarily a messy movie, but a messily-planned movie certainly. There was also a lot of pressure to get this one right too, so maybe there was a lot of second-guessing when it came to making the movie for those reasons that resulted in the haphazard storytelling and clashing themes.
