He is pulling on that boot in a remarkably nonchalant manner, given what appears to be going on in the background! XD;

As to the suit... I like some aspects, and dislike others. Overall I think that I like it—but the pauldron-like shoulder-pads look oddly like armour on someone who is pretty tough to hurt.

To anyone who has watched media that David Corenswet has been in, how is he as an actor?

He was real good in Pearl.

That suit is way too bulky and I don't know a single person who thought raising Superman's neckline was an improvement. When you look at Christopher Reeve's and Henry Cavill's Superman costumes, they were designed to draw attention to their actor's muscular builds. This one detracts from it.

Also, they've got that sinister skybeam but Supes is chilling in his pad? Not a good look considering Man of Steel had the same thing but Superman's excuse for not dealing with it was because he was busy fighting a world-destroying robot.

Not going to criticize the suit yet, I'd have to see it in motion first.

The image is very ill thought. Superman calmly dressing up as disastes strikes outside...

That is parody worthy stuff. Put Captain Hero or Stuporduck there instead and it's fine.

But as a first impression, it screams "who designed this still doesn't get Superman".

It probably shouldn't be put on Gunn's shoulders but whoever did it goofed.

Definitely. Superman's brand is a mix of god-tier action hero and big ol' sweetheart.

I think the idea of the promo image is "epic battle happening outside between superheroes and supervillains, Superman is suiting up to help the heroes but he's doing it casually because he trusts the heroes to hold their own and these kind of battles happen so often it's routine for him".

I definitely think the intention is to show a working man feel.

Guy's been at this for a while so problems like this have been an everyday issue.

I like that vibe for Superman. Not like it's a job and he's just going to work, exactly. It's a passion for him, after all. But more like he's a regular guy who laces up his bright red boots same as everyone else, and he's not worried when shit is going to hell because he's seen it all before.

Less apathetic and more used to the horrors.

If they wanted a more working man feel, they should have changed the order of events. Instead show an image of Superman taking off his boots and putting his feet up after a job well done. Maybe show a defeated foe outside the window.

Alex Ross nailed that concept.

By showing him wearing both Superman's and Clark Kent's outfits as he slumps in his chair, we get the sense that juggling dual identities is exhausting even for someone as mighty as he is.

I think they're also trying to show that there are other superheroes and supervillains handling things without him, and that he trusts them to hold things together so he doesn't have to rush.

Going by the leaks of what the movie's about, that tracks with what I imagine the themes are. Superman is number 1, and he feels the weight of the responsibility that comes with being number 1, but he's humble about it, and he knows that numbers 2-10 aren't losers.

I think what's off to me about the costume is definitely the neckline. It reminds me of the New 52's high collar. Superman's costume should never have a high collar.

[up][up] I could see that being a thing.

Still, I think that it might have been better-conveyed had there been an indication of another hero being present—even if just a silhouette in an action-pose.

All of that feels like reaching, honestly.

Ultimately what it is shown still is a man who has super speed dressing up slowly as the city is being attacked and people are in peril.

There are no other heroes seen, presumably not everyone has read about other heroes being in the movie, an attack of that magnitude already has done some damage, even if only from the panic causing in the city.

"Don't overthink it, it's just a poster". Yah, and the movie itself shouldn't be like it, but there are so many other routes they could have taken and they still took this.

And this is on the heels of a rut of WB showing they don't get that much about Superman with projects like the DCEU and Kill the Justice League (animation still gets him mostly right).

[up][up] I mean is he doing it slowly?

It's a still photo, for all we know he's actually putting on the suit at super speed and the photo is a snapshot of him in mid-speed. tongue

It looks like 2 or 3 clashing forces in the sky. The big ball, a giant pink beam, and a green something. It doesn't look like a single threat attacking the city, it looks like a battle.

Or maybe it’s a composite of two different images (and this is just an example of Trailers Always Lie). It’s meant to showcase the costume and it’s meant to hint towards a villain.

They really should have picked one or the other. The scene of Superman putting on his boots or the scene of destruction just outside of someone's apartment would have worked great. Together they bring each other down. Still I am hyped for the movie. The costume design looks pretty good.

I think you're overthinking a bit too much on the implications of the poster.

It looks like those Silver Age issue covers where Superman would laze around while the city burned or Aquaman was forced to marry Aunt Minerva at gunpoint, so kudos for that...

Yeah, as others have pointed out, going from a still inage (that isnt actually from the production and isnt an actual poster) and declaring "these people dont get Superman" is Olympic level mental gymnastics.

Its concept art. It doesnt need to make a ton of in universe sense because its not part of any actual narrative.
