I think it sounds really interesting, especially with the hypotenuse in the Love Triangle not being evil this time. There's also been speculation that they're going to use Italy as a reference for the style of the setting, much like how Frozen used Norway. Have we ever had a Disney movie set in Italy?
EDIT: There's Pinocchio, but I think that's about it.

To be honest. Pinocchio always felt a tad more Germanic than Italian to me (I always presumed it took place around the Austria/Italian boarder.

I could definately see that.
Point is, Pinocchio, despite having being an Italian based story with Italian names, isn't really all that Italian looking.
To the point where at Epcot last time I went the Pinocchio hedgecut was in the German area, not the Italian area (Lady and Tramp were the Hedgecut there)
On topic of Moana. Looking at the small bit of concept art that has emerged, the artwork reminds me of Mary Blair's artwork and style (Look at the concept and background art for Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland and especially Peter Pan) and if they can make a film that looks like a 2.5 D Peter Pan (my all time favourite Disney Flick) holy hell I'll be all over it.

The next slate of Disney movies sounds intriguing to me. Especially Moana, since I don't think there's ever been a major mainstream movie with Polynesian culture in it (unless you count Lilo and Stitch.)
How is Lilo And Stitch not a major mainstream movie? Or are you saying the culture in it is debatable?

I don't know much about Pacific Islander cultures but I don't think Hawaiian culture is quite the same thing as Polynesian. That's probably what they mean.
Also this film is supposed to be 2000 years ago, not modern times.

...Hawaiian is a part of Polynesia culture. Though Polynesia as a whole is made of a bunch of different "flavors". Maori, Tongan, Tahitian, Hawaiian, Rapa Nui etc.
Much like how "Germanic" encompasses Austrian, German, Swiss etc.

Sorry... I was going by what I read in the first post. 
What? Did any of the articles say it ISN'T going to be cel- shaded? Which one?
No it's NOT cel-shaded on drawings.
This is done in the style of Paperman. Paperman was done with CG models, then processes through what is essentially an advanced version of the Maya Toon Filter. What is very different than simply drawing on paper, then tracing and painting it on cels! Sorry but I am very stringent on things like this.
Well, that's what I thought it was going to be. I guess I'm mixing up my terms here. In any case, I loved the visual style of Paperman, and would consider it an acceptable substitute if Disney really doesn't want to make more hand-drawn features.

Not really. Disney has never tried to over-saturate their line-up with princess movies until the 1990's.

Lost in Thought
I would like Disney to make more non-princess movies, but with care put into them. It has just seemed that lately (within the last ten to fifteen years) anytime Disney made a movie that was different from their usual repertoire they either skimped on the story, or they under-marketed it. Then they take it as a sign that no one wants a different kind of movie!
Having Moana be in the Paperman style would be great, because I love the way Paperman looks, but I just wonder what the point is in making CGI look as close to hand-drawn as possible, when it could simply be hand-drawn.
(No offense is meant by any of this, btw.)
When Disney started out, their princess movies only came out every 10-15 years apart. Now they need to release one every 5 years at the most!

Hey at least their Jack And The Beanstalk retelling isn't given an ADJECTIVE as the movie title. ........ enjoy your NOUN movie title instead!
