...Well...How do I put it nicely?

It's the exact opposite of what Lauren Faust did with MLP:FIM. Instead of producing an intelligent girls' show that doesn't focus on things stereotypically associated with girls' entertainment, LPS decided to go back to the traditional "fashion + mean girls" formula. There was next to nothing I found funny, the conflicts in part 2 were eye rolling, and the twins' plan was one of the most stupidest ideas I've ever heard.

On the bright side, the animation and character designs look really nice. Songs are catchy too.

Of course, that's just my opinion.

Don't mind me. I'm just a creepy little lurker.

I find it weird how Blythe can suddenly talk to animals once she moves into the city. I'm wondering just how they're gonna pull off the reason behind that.

Also hated the oblivious dad. Somebody who is that oblivious while driving is unfit for parenthood.

No, the mom in Ponyo knows what she's doing. The dad had his eyes closed with the volume up on the stereo the whole friggin' time, ended up driving through a subway station without somehow killing anyone, and ended up on top of a three-level car-trailer.

Hmm. Glad that I decided to take a pass on this one. But honestly, just from the promos, it didn't sound like my type of show.

It's flawed, but I actually like this show (just like Pound Puppies and Transformers Prime)... I guess that's because I need something else to watch beside Friendship Is Magic. I guess that's because I'm one of those people who don't want Friendship Is Magic to be the ONLY success on this channel.

I'll drop it like a rock if I have to, but still... I'll support it, only because this channel needs more variety, as far as I'm concerned. and IMHO, Friendship Is Magic is starting to get old and lack in quality a bit for me (hence why I'm glad I don't constantly talk about it on that thread...).

In short, its first two episodes are a rough start, but I'll somewhat saddened at this point if this show goes away for no reason, like some shows as of late have for me...

What it really needs right now are focus episodes. Sunil and Vinnie are literally one-note jokes right now, and the pets really don't get to do a whole lot but be helpless, except for Russel taking action at the climax.

I'll give the show credit regarding the twins. I was a little surprised that the twins actually wanted Blythe to hang out with them. Twice. That's the last thing you'd expect an Alpha Bitch to offer the new girl and I don't really see any advantage of having her join them. Besides, it's still better than Strawberry Shortcake.

But on a whole, it's alright. It's definitely meant more for the target demographic, but I kinda did like Blythe. As for the pets, I can't really say anything until we get more episodes.

@nomuru2d Eh, that was probably my favorite part of the episode, but I have to wonder how he managed to be a pilot with the way he drives.

Coming back to this show, if I could think of two reasons I can think of for why this show won't find a big enough audience anytime soon (when it could have)or definitely won't recieve much of an audience, even if its the target demographic: it's clearly the fashiony parts and mean girls (who feel tacked on), besides the overall lacking development of our characters holding it back.

When regarding the fashion parts,a lot of females today (age regardless) who have raw common sense don't like any sort fashiony noise pushed on them in anything if that's all there is to said thing in any medium put in front of them. Thinking about it further, the same could go for other subjects as well, gender regardless...

Also, nobody likes bulllies - especially not IRL!! So, why would anyone want to deal with them in cartoons? This is just something that needs to be dropped hard, IMHO - for the sake of crafting more quality Western fare to compete with Japan (who doesn't seem to suffer from this problem we have with glorifying bullies and other scum like that...). or for the sake of making Western cartoons of today feel more like... Something to watch to distract you from the real world, and enjoy it, as well.

So... Yeah, due to a lacking first impression, I expect this thread to die soon enough 9as well as this show's audience and ratings to be low as all get out, due to feelings of disappointment or direct hatred) - so, let me get in my two cents on this before someone gets the bright idea to do just what I stated could happen soon...

Bullies are a pretty common thing in kids' cartoons. They try to make it relateable to kids, I guess. I think it's nice that they made the main character like fashion, but not a jerk.

Girls (please not "females", we're not talking about animals here) can like fashion if they want. It gets a bit annoying when all girl-oriented things are fashion-related, but to say that they're too smart makes it look like anyone who likes fashion or design is an idiot.

As for the bronies hating this, well, it's good that they're not exactly the only people in the world, even if they act like that. tongue

[up]Oh, I want to like this show (and not just because i'm getting tired of Friendship Is Magic, either), trust me. These flaws, however, probably won't allow this show (overall) to properly find itself a decent/reasonable audience, as well as INCLUDING due to the more over-zealous bronies bashing it (and being very vocal about it - you know how the more vocal people have more of an effect on things than the sub-silent majority), compared to those who actually like it and are willing to give it a chance, despite not being as good as Friendship Is Magic...

I'm saying it again - I will be really sad if this show is sniped just because of ratings issues - I'm sick of seeing good Western fare, especially action cartoons, getting cancelled over BS like toys and ratings all over nothing. If this show can improve just a little, I'll stick with it the best I can, only because I want the Hub to be more than, ugh.... The Pony Network... (and that hurt to say for me).

Also, as for any Bronies who act they are the world and want to bash me for liking this show (despite its faults, and still be willing to give it a chance to truly find an audience) - blame that on the fact that Friendship Is Magic is just one of many shows to me (and one I can drop should it begin to really dissapoint me, too!). Nothing more, nothing less.

Um, I just feel like dropping this here...

Even as a girl, I think the fashion aspect is significant problem with this show. Don't get me wrong, I love fashion. I make amatuer designs like Blythe does, I have a very colorful wardrobe, and I make an effort to look unique everyday. I don't mind it being in girls' cartoons as long as it's done well, which most of the time, it's not. Here, the fashion aspects just seemed shoehorned in, like they felt they had to put it in there to appeal to girls or something. These were my favorite toys as a kid, and while they did have clothing accessories, they weren't about fashion. Why decide to make one of the main aspects about fashion? I don't know. At this point, I think I'm just having some sort of weird nostalgic fan rage about this subject.

Furthermore, I just don't think the writing in this show is any good at all. The narrative style itself is okay, but the jokes didn't cut it, and, like I said before, everything that the twins came up with were just so stupid. (Dress up as cats so you'll blend in with the pets? Well aren't you two genuises? Trick people by telling them there's free money? The public is just so easy to fool!)

In the end, I actually think they're trying too hard to make it seem appealing. A lot of elements feel really forced, but at the same time, I can tell that they're trying.

...I should stop, I don't even know if I'm making any sense anymore.

Maybe the fashion aspect is because it's merchandise driven. Do the Littlest Pets even wear clothes?

I guess a lot of series feel awkward at first. Maybe it will pick up and end up with more appeal.

[up]They do have clothing accessories, but they were never a main focus for the toys to begin with. Some of them would come in the box already wearing little things like hats, scarves, and bows, but that's as far as they ever pushed it.

I watched the pilot knowing that some of the people from MLP were working on this show, but I didn't know which ones. Then Rainbow Dash Blythe started screaming.
