I read Undead Unluck in bulk because I feel like it flows better that way.

Honestly, understandable. UU’s rollercoaster plot can hit harder if you read in bulk.

After a week of break, now there is more ToC to share:

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1a_251.jpg

  • After a double break, the last new series from the serialization batch begins: "Cycle Biyori" or rather "Psych House" (the name was announced a little bit earlier). Hopefully this series is brings something interesting to the table, since the last 2 didn't leave me feeling particularly positive with their early chapters.

    • Alongside the name, there is also a brief description about the series: "A young girl with teleportation abilities learns that she’s not the only one with supernatural powers!".

  • The current ranking of Jujutsu Kaisen is the lowest I have ever seen for the series, which doesn't really mean much, but is curious to see.

  • Looking at the bottom 3, each has their own particular situation worth discussing:

    • Considering the poor sales numbers, it's likely Greens will leave the magazine for the next serialization round.

    • Dear Anemone hasn't been performing well in the ToC since it has been ranking, and if to that you take into consideration it's first volume won't release until July, it might have a similar fate to Shadow Eliminators, and be cancelled before that (or the decision may already be made before it comes out).

    • While Nue has been ranking low as of late, the sales numbers from it's latest volume aren't bad, so I find it unlikely to be cancelled soon. However, recent event could be interpreted like the series is moving towards a conclusion, but not in a definitive way.

Psych House looks decently cute. Dunno if it's gonna have a serious turn, opening chap doesn't exactly have that feel to it. [lol]

Aside the whole family business thing though. That's just a little bit soul crushing.

I rather like the two new series we got. An SOL about superpowered people living in a sharehouse, and a military AI falling in love with a human.

[up]x3 Curious, I got the opposite feeling about Psych House, since I was predicting the first chapter to be funnier, but there was some more drama included than expected; which made wonder if the series will be taking a direction of combining comedy and drama, instead of the goofy image you get with the buckethead protagonist. Either posibilities could work, and now I'm looking forward to what will happen in the next chapter, which is more than I can say about the 2 other new series at this point (sadly).

Huh, Psych House was way more of a drama than I expected. Feels like it'll turn into a battle series after the first volume

[up] Yeah, I get what you are saying. For example teleporting the car and bucket's giant mode feel like something with combat possibilities. And not only that, since mentions of the goverment being involved and being able to catch psych users also feels like it could turn the series into a more action focused direction if the author chooses.

I'm not sure how I would feel about Psych House being an action series yet, maybe if it was like Witch Watch with combat being rather rare, but more than that doesn't sound so appealing right now. Mostly becuase of it being described as a daily life series (if I'm correct that is what biyori means).

To be clear, I don't think a shift to action is intended, at least not beyond a scuffle every few chapters. I just think there's a good chance the audience won't vibe with it as it is, and a turn towards battle shounen may be necessary to keep it alive

[up] Of course, it all started when Kinnikuman went from a goofy cowardly wrestler-hero to a goofy cowardly wrestler-hero who fights for the sake of the world. [lol]

I don't think any series has done it quiet as well as Negima did however.

This week I'm late with the ToC, but that accidentaly made it so there is a (possible) huge announcement attached to a rather uneventful ToC.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1a_09.jpg

  • Not much to say in the upper parts of the magazine, just Kill Blue in the cover while Psych House gets it's traditional colour page. Choujo is ranking lower than before, but having a colour page next week somewhat compensates for that.

  • The bottom is also similar to before, but it's curious to see Kagurabachi so low despite selling so well. Maybe those numbers will actually get reflected starting next week.

  • I could swear there was a Sakamoto Days thread, but I couldn't find it. So I will put it here:

    • So, it appears the anime of Sakamoto Days has been revealed as an upcoming project for Netflix in 2024, according to License Global (a website I don't know). No further details are provided, which makes it seem like it was revealed by accident, rather than a proper announcement.

Oh God, Netflix, you know this series must be very very well animated to do the manga justice, don't you? I won't forget what you did to Record of Ragnarok

Also, speaking of Sakamoto Days, how badass was the latest chapter? "You think I'm senile, don't you?"

Necromance: I think this will become good, i really do, but currently it´s just too generic. I can´t say precisely why but i really want this to succeed.

Greens: Ah that time in a new hobby when the novelty starts to wear off a bit and one realizes how much effort one will have to put into it to become any good. And then also the realization that ones role-model isn´t the best, but just one among many, that can also hurt ones motivation. I get it.

Psych House: Teleporter girl is moving into the titular house and things go off pretty much perfectly. I´m honestly already hooked, i love the characters. I´m also pretty much convinced this will turn into a battle manga sooner or later, but i´d be happy with either combat or comedy for this one.
