A thread to discuss the Trails Series of video games (known in Japan as the Kiseki series). Adaptations of the games are also on-topic.

As of May 2024, there is no specific spoiler policy for this thread, which means the the default forum spoiler policy applies. In summary:

  • Spoilers for non-episodic works should remain tagged for a minimum of one month after the work's release.
  • Spoilers for episodic works (including any DLC) should remain tagged for one month or until the next instalment releases, whichever is shorter.
If releases for different markets, systems and/or languages are on different dates, this is measured from the earliest one.
    Original OP
(I searched forum titles several times, but did not find a thread for this game. If I missed it, remove this topic.)

There hasn't been much good news in months for people who want more Legend Of Heroes VI in English. Xseed has apparently been translating the second installment for PSP, but no release date yet, and they apparently have not had much sales success. Meanwhile, there have been no official statements about releasing the Windows versions in English.

But thanks to this Andriasang article, I learned that Aeria Games (best known for MMORPGs) plans to release the Trails in the Sky trilogy internationally on smartphones. Some online and social functions will be added to the basic gameplay. No clear indication of what international smartphone platforms just yet.

It would really mess me up if the prologue of CS 1 and 3 really are glimpses into parallel realities instead of just story mandated spoiler protection previews.

Because then you'd have to think of the implications of a timeline where Crow succeeded in killing firing the cannons but Osborne managing to survive and Towa dies instead.

Not to mention Class VII having to deal with the aftermath of the Empire blowing up Crossbell.

But it would really get into existential cosmic horror if I dunno, some eldritch abomination from beyond reality like Demiurgos brings back the Lloyd and SSS who died at the end of Zero to make them fight against the Lloyd and SSS who survived. That would really bring out the existential crisis.

....NO SPOILERS PLEASE. [lol]

Granted, It's totally possible that the Lloyd and SSS in the prologue of Zero ARE indeed the same ones we play as, because Ke A altered the past instead of creating an entirely new timeline. Could go either way.

Back to me hoping Rean and Laura get to fight one on one again. It'll help me forgot all my existential horror at the idea that the cast have been replaced by versions of themselves or are doomed to repeat the exact same cycle again and again and again and again and again.

Hey wait a minute, Ouroboros as an evil organization name makes more sense now.

@Memers Okay, speaking of theories, I was doublechecking some scenes in FF XIV, and the possibility occurs to me that Campy might actually BE the Grandmaster in the same way Elidibus presents himself as the voice of Zodiark but is actually Zodiark himself.

Right? I might be horrified by the implications, but I'm also excited by them.

Alright, did some mandated quests in Second Chapter to kill monsters. I have to ask...... how much does Third Chapter recycle from the first 2 games because hanging out in Grancel so soon after beating 1 is so draining.

Location-wise? It reuses a few locations (including Grancel, but without its NPCs) but "remixes" them all. But a lot of the game is new dungeons.

Nope, there aren't really any "towns" to begin with, per se. 3rd takes place in a somewhat unusual setting and plays more like a dungeon crawler, and that's all I'll say.

Intriguing.

I thought it would be an adventure again, like FC and SC, but I guess it has to be some crazy premise if they need Kevin from the Church to take the starring role from Estelle.

Kevin better have some deeply compelling story because I really like Estelle, and so far, Kevin is just less charismatic Oliver. tongue

Third is a very different beast than the rest of the trails games, aside from Reverie. There is no BP, quests, true towns, or any of that, it is the game with the most combat focus though.

Reverie takes Third and a standard Trails game and smashes them together.

My god, I have to actually change my element to beat a quest monster.

This game really has gotten hardcore.

So I have to ask while fighting this stupid thing, did Elise know Rean was adopted from the start? Like I know she knows they aren't related but was it like an Estelle and Joshua thing where they know from the start?

It for sure feels like they always knew. As that and his rage he used to save Elise as a kid are the source of his inferiority complex and both have been going on for a long time.

I played through the prologue of Reverie yesterday. I'll put my thoughts in a folder:

    Trails into Reverie - Prologue

  • It's a good thing I played Zero before this game. The prologue and first chapter unlocked after are entirely a sequel to the Crossbell games.

  • The IBF are Erebonia's elite force. You can tell from the way that they spend the entire prologue getting their asses kicked.

  • Is Juna's existence the result of a Cosmic Retcon? Even seeing her with the SSS in the prologue, she still seemed out of place. I do think she works better as the littler sister to the SSS than as literally the only reason Old Class VII isn't completely useless.

  • The whole prologue felt like the climax to a game, so I found the fakeout credits to be a really neat touch.

Yeah, I'm not really as talkative as some people.

In my slight defense, the reason I'm far more talkative for the Sky games is because some have requested to know that the heck is going on, so I summarize.

Granted, sometimes I skip over parts because I'm a lazy bastard.

You're also playing on PC, so it's easier for you to get screencaps. Besides, I'm hardly complaining. It's fun to read your posts, like a really oldschool let's play.

One other thing I forgot to mention, is that Reverie has a lot of tutorials for explaining just about every mechanic. It's a mechanically complicated game, but so far it's played a lot like CS 4. I wish they'd given you the option to opt out of tutorials.

I think the part I hate the most when starting a new game is when they take away my gear from the last part, explain why, explain why I have to redo it all over again, and then I have to do the tutorial.

Oh boy, Reverie is going to be a trip.

So while I'm grinding for this stupid ass flame Velgr fight, I have to ask, does Elise get to have any character that's not wanting to fuck Rean?

Estelle and Joshua have lives outside of each other.

[up][up][up] To be fair, there are actually new mechanics in Reverie like new turn affixes, an actual use for the Assault Gauge and such. Sky SC and CS 4 are the ones that did not really have new mechanics from the previous game.

[up][up][up][up][up]

Is Juna's existence the result of a Cosmic Retcon? Even seeing her with the SSS in the prologue, she still seemed out of place. I do think she works better as the littler sister to the SSS than as literally the only reason Old Class VII isn't completely useless.

The prologue covered what was shown in the epilogue of Azure and CS 4, Juna wasn't there but she should be at least somewhat involved after everything in CS 3/4.

Maybe I just want Elise to get some character because she has a very good design.

And premise, I like the idea that she's struggling to get it into Rean's head that his adopted family loves him and he's not a burden but uhhhhh taking it way too far game.

Aside from her interactions with Alfin, she still acts and uses 90% of her screentime the same way. Even for one of my friends who is into that sort of thing, she found her way too one-note to like.

"Even for one of my friends who is into that sort of thing"

Can you elaborate exactly? Is it the unrequited love or the step sibling thing?

I swear, whoever wrote Elise has no idea how little sisters actually act. Always trying to murder you for the inheritance, as well as crying and whining if they don't own everything under the sun.
