Shark Tale is the perfect So Bad, It's Good movie for me. It's so off-putting in so many ways but I keep coming back to it. I at least watch it once a year just for kicks.
I unironically enjoy this movie and always have. This and Chicken Little fall into the category of "animated movies I love that everyone else hates"
I nostalgically enjoy this movie, very much knowing full well it's nowhere near that good, in fact I enjoy it in part because of the fact that it is a trainwreck of a film... that and, again, Oscar's bet on the seahorse failing, him getting shoved into a trunk, and having to deal with the shark, interesting stuff.
As far as bad films are concerned, this is at least one of those bad films where I'm still entertained.
Robin: Don't ever ask me to dock with you again. Serious...Its notable for having racist jellyfish as I recall
New theme music also a boxRacist in the sense that they are stereotypical caricatures of Jamaican people, rather than having racist attitudes (i.e. Fantastic Racism toward fish). While I agree that the caricatures are kind of insulting, I found it at least visually creative that their tentacles resemble dreadlocks and their umbrella resembles a large knit hat.
I agree visually its an intriguing idea but the accents are a No. Just... No
New theme music also a boxTrust me, if I'm in the mood to watch an actually good early 2000's CGI animated film about fish, I'd do Finding Nemo. A movie, that doesn't have some really, really, really bad ideas for character designs.
Robin: Don't ever ask me to dock with you again. Serious...I learned about existence of Shark Tale from the Polish magazine called Shrek and friends, that was basically focused on the 2000's Dreamworks films such as Shrek, Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda and Over the Hedge. This made me interested in seeing this movie, given this was another movie about animals that I didn't know about it (looks like I was furry even in my childhood) and I wanted to see if I will like it. And ironically, unlike the rest of you folks on the internet (including This Very Wiki) I honestly liked the movie, and it becomed one of my childhood movies. Maybe because when I watched it I didn't saw its flaws due to being too young to realize this (or being more concerned with the fact that sharks still eat fish despite everyone living ala. Zootopia style) or because Polish dub had voice cast more sympathetic and more funnier (Oscar is voiced by the same guy who voiced Sid in Ice Age) than original English version, plus making all jokes sound more funnier (this movie, alongside rest of the Dreamworks movies was translated by legendary Bartosz Wierzbięta who is the reason why Shrek became super popular in Poland). On a different note, my favorite song from the movie is a "Get It Together" by India.Arie (this song is one of the few reasons why I think Black women are natural at singing beautiful songs, with a voices like an angels), and which I imagine to be Angie's Image Song, due to appearing after her and Oscar's infamous argument.
And given that we are on the topic of this movie, I will share with all of you my headcanon concerning my most favourite character in the movie (next to Lenny), given that I don't where else to put it.
Namely, when I rewatched the movie after all this years in 2020 (maybe?) I started to see Angie as being Black-coded. And yes, I know that both in English and Polish dub she's voiced by a white person, but some characters in Lion King also are voiced by white actors in the English language version, despite the fact that most folks depict them as Africans when humanizing them. The reason for this is because Angie has big lips and a face shape that remind me of African descended women, and her Polish voice actress (Joanna Trzepiecińska) gives her "Black girl voice", and during the scene where Angie catches Oscar where he's sneaking to meet with Lenny and during their infamous argument scene Joanna makes her sound like a Sassy Black Woman. Plus, her interactions with Oscar before she discovers his lie remind me of Tiana's and Lottie friendship while her adorkable mannerisms remind me of Waris Dirie from Desert Flower. Not to mention that movie itself has big Black vibes due to its urban setting, songs that are mostly sung by African American singers and Ernie and Bernie being Jamaican, so having one of the main characters being Black-coded in that kinda setting is guaranteed in my opinion. I also think that she and Oscar could be a great representation of interracial couple (since I headcanon Oscar as white, due to his Polish voice actor Cezary Pazura, whose voice sounds different than Will Smith's voice) in a animated movie. Sticking to her humanization, I imagine her as a human appearing at Oscar party in his new house in a beautiful sparkling dress that nicely contrasts with her dark brown skin. Also, I have to mention my most favourite scene (or scenes) with her: scene when she and Oscar are at balcony and he's showing her the top of the reef and later when he goes to get a necklace he wants to give her, Angie breathes into her hand and goofily smells her own breath before Oscar appears behind her and she gets scared! Adorkable at its highest!
Day 11 brings us on a comedic journey to the wild!
A childhood favorite of mine, Madagascar may not be the most ambitious of the studio's library, but it's a fun, lighthearted comedy with charming characters and a good sense of humor. The film is much more driven by its jokes than a real overall storyline, coming off almost like a series of sketches loosely tied together by a plot of zoo animals getting stranded in the wild, but like I said, the jokes are mostly pretty good, maybe not a ton of absolutely laugh-out-loud hilarious stuff, but plenty to elicit a nice chuckle. The core cast are really the glue holding the whole thing together, not the most complex characters (yet, anyway), but with endearing and likable personalities and quirks. Alex the flamboyant showman blissfully unaware of his status as a carnivore, Marty the wisecracking Wide-Eyed Idealist inflicted with wanderlust, Gloria the Sassy Black Woman Team Mom, and Melman the worrisome hypochondriac form a nice group of leads... backed up by a truly excellent supporting cast. King Julien is a wonderfully kooky egotist convinced he's the single greatest thing on Earth with an excellently goofy voice provided by Sacha Baron Cohen, and the penguins... oh dear lord, the penguins. Hands down, some of the best comedic side characters in all of animation. They don't get too much screentime in the first movie, but they easily steal every single scene they're in, it's no wonder that not only did they get much more focus in the sequels, but eventually their own TV show and movie spinoffs, and they deserved every bit of it. The visuals, while a bit dated, are rather nice; both the urban environment of New York and the lush tropics of Madagascar look great, and the character movements are uniquely jerky and exaggerated for some nice physical comedy, looking almost like a 3D Looney Tunes cartoon. The character artstyle also has a nicely angular, geometric look to it, it's unique and nice to look at. Madagascar is a good movie, though its sequels have much more substance to them. Before we get there, though, it's back to Aardman with a film about their own iconic duo.
Yeah, Madagascar was doing the "cartoony movement" in CG before Spiderverse popularized it.
Madagascar was always my personal favorite DreamWorks production when I was a kid. It's still really enjoyable, and I think the franchise as a whole never really overstayed its welcome. (though I am curious on what the scrapped fourth film would have actually been about...)
And yeah the geometric designs stuck even up to Penguins and the spin-off series.
The first Zany Cartoon in CGI is probably Scrat's antics in Ice Age, but that one was just limited to one character. Madagascar is probably the first attempt to do an entire movie in this style.
It's funny how Madagascar depicts the island as some sort of pristine tropical paradise. I was looking up its population statistics, and not only is it well populated, it actually has a greater population density than the US. That's kind of ironic.

Optimism is a duty. There's a theory that movie and All Hail King Julien takes place in a nature reserve, explaining why we don't see any humans in the movie or the show. And this reserve is probably very big, since all animal kingdoms that we see in AHKJ are located in it.
And BTW, I had recently created thread that focuses on the Madagascar series, so if anyone wants to talk about this series in general, feel free to join in.

Video on the DreamWorks Land area of Universal Orlando.
They put a SLIDE in SHREK’S OUTHOUSE.
The Owl House and Coyote Vs Acme are my Roman Empire. That's on brand.
I don't really think the kids who grew up on Shrek and Kung Fu Panda are the same ones that grew up on Trolls. Heck, I haven't seen any of the Trolls stuff yet, but of course I'll be getting to them eventually.
Speaking of... "CHEESE!":
What I would give for a walkaround Death or Death merchandise.
Sentences that sound very disturbing out of context.
(5) One thing I hope that they will somehow include Madagascar in it (oh, how I miss my favourite penguin spy team).
Also, do you guys know which caused Duloc to be abandoned in Scared Shrekless? While Isaac theorized that citizens of Duloc abandoned their own city, this Polish youtuber theorized that Farquaad's death gave the fairytale creatures the impetus to take revenge on the inhabitants of Duloc, which I think is a very dark Shrek universe theory (even more darker than theory that Fiona was cannibal who eat meat from the knights that Dragoness was giving her). But what do guys think about it?
Universal Singapore used to have that Madagascar dark ride, also has a dedicated land for Shrek and I think still has the 4D.
Day 13: "I'm lost in the suburbs... and I can't tell which house is mine...
love that song. Underrated movie.
The Owl House and Coyote Vs Acme are my Roman Empire.
Day 10: a rather infamous one...
