I kind of miss the defeated portraits from II if only because it showed how badly you beat your opponent.

It's more frustrating waiting for the asskicking than the asskicking itself.

New Generation and Second Impact did it better IMO.

Oh and another note, I hate most modern fighting game's online matching making system. Not having the ability to be able to tell how skilled my opponent before challegening them pisses me off as I get owned.

Well, I've only been watching streams at Just In TV, but Street Fighter IV has BP and PP. However, I have no idea what those mean and whether or not the amount is indicative of skill.

[up][up]Actually, that's exactly why they do it.

Because then everyone would just farm scrubs and the rankings would thus be meaningless.

[up]

  • BP (Battle Points) measures how good you are with a certain character.

  • PP (Player Points) measures how good you are overall.

Someone with high Battle Points but low Player Points typically means that they played with that character a lot, but got their asses kicked more often than not.

[up]I am shit at fighting games. I want to play people who are my level. It is more fun that way so I am constanly challenged rather than owning or being owned. I barely have anybody like that to play with on PS 3. I couldn't give a shit about ranking personally.

Send friend invites to anyone whom you enjoy playing. Join lobbies with other people and watch their matches to gauge how good they are—join or create lobbies with those people only and just have fun.

That's, in general, the best method you could take, especially since I've owned people with 10,000 BP or more and been owned by people with 0. It's a decent indicator of experience, but a lacking indicator of skill.

I will, though two things of note. Almost everyone on the PS 3 are dicks and they don't like talking to me. You can imagine how my attempts to contact them ended up in the past.[lol]

You just gotta keep trying. I had a number of good friends on PSN / XBL that I've played various fighting games with. I don't really even play SFIV outside of for fun anymore myself, so I just play the way I enjoy playing and say fuck it if I lose. The key to enjoying any fighting game is taking your 1P (one-player) experience as far as you want to (in other words, learn as many combos/matchups/tricks as you feel like) and take it into every game and if you win, cool, if not, don't worry about it. If you're not playing to get better, then you have no reason to doubt your current skill level.

SFIV Ranking system often means I don't play online unless I'm really in the mindset for it - my title is "Waxing and Waning," because it pretty accurately depicts how I do when I'm not fighting in person. If I'm distracted, I tend to make stupid mistakes I wouldn't normally, even if I was distracted or not at my best in real life (I tend to do better when I can talk via mic to the person I'm playing against, even if they're a complete idiot).

And a single bad string of losses can undo several sessions of great wins - you always seem to lose points much faster than you gain them (two or three losses in ranked can take five or six to make up for). As a result, I rarely ever feel as though my ranking on SFIV is accurate to my skill.

Which wouldn't matter to me - as I got better I stopped caring about ranked matches: I prefer player/endess matches. Except good people in endless matches check your ranking, and kick you if it's not as high as they would like.

Which is annoying when you're watching their matches and have a pretty good idea you can beat them.

Just play on the Peaceful Jay stream (if you don't already). http://www.justin.tv/peacefuljay

Lots of top-level players congregate there and you can get pointers. Search for "Peaceful Impact" on XBL.

If you've got PSN, instead try SRK Live. http://www.justin.tv/srklive

The locals at my arcade play vanilla SFIV a lot more than they do SSFIV. Why do you think that is?

Does your local arcade even have SSFIV Arcade Edition? If they don't, that might be why.

Speaking of Arcade Edition, do you guy think there will more characters revealed for it?

Also, what is up with Oni?
