They definitely seem to be prepping for one at least, with how barren their release schedule is outside of smaller titles and remakes so far.

Did the AAA industry really fell that low? Are there any AAA studio that do you trust?

Been wondering if AAA will end up as an exclusively derogatory term, meaning it's only applied to hated companies like Ubisoft, Blizzard, maybe Square Enix, but not From Software or Larian Studios, even if their works, regardless of reception, all take the same amount of effort and manpower to create.

Remember when Ubisoft said Skull and Bones was AAAA.

Yeah, I say make fun of them for that

I can imagine a world in which the term "AAA" specifically means "Sketchy Big Business" but I don't think that's probable or desirable. Especially since some non-sketchy companies are bigger and more powerful than some very sketchy ones.

Until that day comes, Nintendo is very much a AAA company.

I would say that Nintendo and Valve are both good examples of trustworthy AAA-devs.

and then Skull & Bones fell flat on its face, as if that statement sealed its fate.

At this point, the only Ubisoft games that feel like they have any actual goodness in them are the Mario + Rabbids games, especially Sparks of Hope.

AAA originally just started as a marketing term made up by companies to try and sell high-budget games off the image that they're "premium" with guaranteed quality, and as far as I'm concerned the term only applies to companies that would use such a shallow gimmick to sell themselves in the first place. By my measure, a company like Nintendo doesn't make AAA games because they don't sell their games off that sort of image.

I guess when you think about it, Nintendo being kinda behind on modern gaming trends is a good thing.

In my opinion, these days all AAA means is "costs $70 before DLC and microtransactions."

At this rate it'll become AAAAAAAAAAAA and you can't tell if it's a huge ass inflated budget or someone screaming.

That would explain why AAA games can apparently only be made by torturing developers.

[up][up][up][up]Yea, Nintendo is far from universally beloved - and you're right, usually it flares up when the topic of how they deal with fan projects and the like emerges, although there's probably other reasons I'm not aware of.

I know there was a huge scare not too long ago when the creators of Garry's Mod posted an update saying that Nintendo were taking down all the resources based on Nintendo properties on the Steam Workshop, and the comments were a mixture of anti-Nintendo vitriol and people saying they'd fallen for a DMCA troll and if that Nintendo wanted to excise all the fan content on the Steam Workshop they'd have done so years ago (which I'm inclined to believe, I mean there hasn't been so much as a peep about all the mods that have been made for Smash Bros).

As mentionned earlier, the evidence points to the copyright strike not coming from Nintendo, but from the copyright troll.

I actually first heard the term "AAA" back in the late 90s, used to refer to games of high quality. Like Super Mario 64. It wasn't until later that the term started to be used only to refer to budget rather than quality. Once it got to that point, it was only a matter of time before the prestige of "AAA" would go downhill.

I suspect that recent mess with Yuzu has led to Nintendo taking a more hardline approach to potential copyright violations.

Garry's Mod has a similar issue — it actually made money using Nintendo inspired stuff.
