** Tommy has a friendly-turned-harrowing encounter at the hospital with a man who wanted named Greg; the reason for his visit was to see his comatose son for the last time at time, preferably awake. When he runs into his ex-wife, who wants to take the hospital, but him being "armed" to prevent his ex-wife from taking away the son's son off life support support, he reveals he's "armed"; only Tommy offering to stay keeps him somewhat grounded, and the whole event nearly ends with a SWAT team raid and his subsequent arrest. The raid. Greg's son does eventually wakes wake up at the end, but in time to see his father put in handcuffs and led out... and the fact that he's alive when her husband isn't, Charles had no such luck, the stress from what she's faced all day, and the relief to see that the man gets father and son get a miracle is enough to make Tommy break down in tears.tears.
** As a whole, the RealismInducedHorror and sadness that Charles' death happened so quietly and quickly is powerful in of itself.

** TK's flashbacks to 2017 shows him at his lowest point, with Gwyn finding him at a Bronx drug den and in the grip of what seems to be a heroin addiction. From the argument she has with him after she hauls him to a restaurant, it's implied that she realized beforehand how bad it was getting for him, as over TK's protests, she firmly pre-reserves him a flight to a drug rehabilitation center in Los Angeles. She then stays with him through the flight until they reach the airport exit.
* In the present time, TK is pretty much clouded in his grief as he, Owen and Carlos try to book a flight to New York; not even an impromptu visit to the 126 fire station really helps his mood. He only snaps out of it when their plane suddenly malfunctions in mid-air and he has to treat a woman who was nearly sucked out of the window.

** From start to finish, TK's flashbacks to 2017 shows him at his lowest point, with Gwyn finding him at a Bronx drug den and in the grip of what seems to be a heroin addiction. From the argument she has with him after she hauls him to a restaurant, it's implied that she realized beforehand how bad it was getting for him, as over TK's protests, she firmly pre-reserves him a flight to a drug rehabilitation center in Los Angeles. -->'''Gwyn''': Are you addicted to the needle prick yet? I read about it-- needle fixation, the ritual of the pain.
-->'''TK''': Mom, no. Why are we even talking about this?
-->'''Gwyn''': You gonna eat [your food]?
-->'''TK''': No, I'm gonna puke.
-->'''Gwyn''': Then puke. Just get it all out, 'cause we have a flight to catch.
-->'''TK''': What?
-->'''Gwyn''': Our plane leaves in two hours.
-->'''TK''': What're you talking about?
-->'''Gwyn''': I'm taking you to rehab.
-->'''TK''': Rehab?!
-->'''Gwyn''': There's a rehab center in California that is supposed to be the best.
-->'''TK''': Califor-- wh-- Mom, I have work.
-->'''Gwyn''': No, you don't. Not for thirty days.
-->'''TK''': I'm not doing that, Mom.
-->'''Gwyn''': Do what you want. But you have six hours to decide--
-->'''TK''': Mom, no--
-->'''Gwyn''': ''--[[SuddenlyShouting because we are getting on that plane!]]''
-->'''TK''': ''(slams a fist on the table)'' NO! [...] ''(deflates)'' I have to stay here. J-just... look at me, I'm fine. They need me, Mom. Okay? I-I'm a firefighter, I save lives.
-->'''Gwyn''': ''[[ArmorPiercingResponse That]]'' [[ArmorPiercingResponse is what]] ''[[ArmorPiercingResponse I]]'' [[ArmorPiercingResponse am trying to do.]]
** On the flight itself, Gwyn and TK remain at odds with each other, which comes to a head when TK tries to ease his withdrawal-induced tremors by downing two small bottles of alcohol he'd nicked from a drink cart. When she notices and calls him out on his lying, this bluntness clearly stings for TK, who lashes back that she can't make him get better even with how hard she's pushing him to recovery. And Gwyn, in return, understands this, rebutting that she doesn't want to see him dead. This finally defuses his temper for the rest of the flight.

* TK gets off to... a sort-of bumpy start with Iris when she comments about him being "exactly what she thought he'd be." Confronting her again doesn't quite help either, as her NotSoDifferentRemark about them both being emotionally "hot messes" that Carlos is drawn to re-triggers his insecurities about their relationship ''hard''. Though Iris didn't intend to be hurtful, especially before he and Carlos are about to get married and especially because we the audience know TK works at making sure his past traumas don't fully define him, her wording certainly cuts deep.

The rest of his arc sees him torn between letting Benjamin tell Grace the truth or telling her himself.

Sure enough, he succumbs to his injuries as he's being resuscitated, with Owen hugging a devastated Kara when he walks to her to break the news.
