Dawntrail benchmark is up for people who want to experiment with beefy lionesses

Is there a lore reason why we're suddenly seeing Lion women out in the open? Did they finally breed enough women? That's why they weren't allowed out before since the population of women was too low.

Man, it gets awkward when they have lore justifying the lack of a certain gender for a player race, and now they are showing up like rabbits.

I feel like it's Acceptable Breaks from Reality, though I suppose you can also look at it from the perspective of proportions. A few thousand/ten-thousand female Hrothgar eschewing tradition to start traveling the world (especially after *gestures at everything that happened in the Hydaelyn and Zodiark Saga*) and adventuring is still a drop in the pot of overall number of Hrothgar that are alive, similar to how a few ten thousand humans seems like a small number in comparison to the several billion on the earth.

Yeah, I get that, but it's really going to make stuff like the Save the Queen questline weird.

There's going to be a whole questline of that.

There is a bias caused by some popular race choices for the WOL. In reality, in Eorzea, there are only a handful of Au Ra, Viera or Hrothgar. The vast majority of the population is Hyur, Elezen, Roe, Lalafell and Miqote.

As for Save the Queen, I think some of the NPC mention that even if they are fighting to liberate their homeland, their previous regime wasn't exactly progressive (I think it's the reason Misija betrays them) so it's not out of the realm of possibility that there were strict gender rules at play (for what it's worth, all Hyur members of the Bozja resistance are female - Aggie, Meryall, Isolde).

That's a fair point, past Bozja was very regressive politically, it's possible that the females were forced to remain in their gender roles, Queen or not, and now that's pretty much totally fallen apart so femhroths are free to start going out into the world.

So uhhh anyone else not feeling these new graphics or just me?

It's really not doing my miqo any favors, no. They stole her fangs, for one, and while she's never looked very good with direct sunlight and shadow on her face, she looks worse now.

I feel you, the lighting on my Xaela is off.

Guess I'm sticking with my custom shaders.

If you set your PC's date to April 1, the WOL will be replaced by Hildebrand in the benchmark

that is legit hilarious

If the bench looks washed out, change the Gamma. It’s set at 50 for some reason, 0 the characters look a lot better. [1]

So you can get Hildi and Brandi in the bench, set your clock to April 1st for the former and April 1st 14:00 hours for the latter.

I've noticed that the people that complain that their characters looks too different tend to be Female Au Ra or Female Miqo players. But meh, I'm not bothered by the changes.

Besides, if that's the sacrifice we had to make for more polygons for the hands and feet, so be it.

If I had to take a guess it's because they tend to be the races with the most angular features to begin with, so the higher poly count smoothing them out would be the most noticeable.

Thankfully we're getting that free Fantasia, so the people complaining will at least get to move stuff around if they don't like what's become of their character to try to make it look the same.

When your character follows a racial naming convention that's not really an option.

He means fantasia as in just changing the looks, like eyes or jaw, not changing race.

I might change the shape of the lips, but other than that, nah.

Yeah, I've played around with my character a bit in the editor, enough to know that I don't think minor adjustments will help that much (or rather, the adjustments that are available to make won't help much).

I'll get used to it. It's not even that big a difference anyway.

I think that if I were forced to change I would probably go for a female Hrothgar or Viera. Both of which would be quite hard to handwave as "being adopted in a Xaela tribe" (especially since it's the one tribe that's known for adopting male Xaela kids).

But I tried the character creation in the benchmark, and it came out fine. I think the one thing I might change with the Fantasia are the eye rings to make them brighter, they seem more matte now. I had no problem with the face as a whole (especially since I use a mod to add some makeup), my biggest issue was that there was no option to try the Gyr Abanian braids or other limited haircuts.
