Cute girls playing big brass instruments.

This will do.

Discuss.

Loves feel-good animation a whole lot.

Feels weird to actually like a KyoAni series these days

So, pretty good. Production values are as high as you'd expect from KyoAni, and their style actually fits this time. Characters are a bit too quirky, but mostly likable and show some depth. And there's yuri (sub?)text

Apparently this is based on a full-fledged novel (not a LN, a la Shin Sekai Yori), so the source material should be pretty good. So the quality of this anime will be a matter of how they adapt this.

This looks quite promising. I hope they don't screw this one up.

You say that as though most novels aren't crap

[up]

The author's previous work was award-winning, and everyone so far who's actually read the darned thing say that it's pretty good (if on the dramatic side).

This now kind of boils down to whether Kyo Ani doesn't drop the ball on it.

Anime adapted from novels have a pretty good track record. At least the ones I've heard of. Shin Sekai Yori, Tatami Galaxy, Eccentric Family, Shiki... those are all I can think of.

Well, Shin Sekai Yori is my favorite anime and I find (from fan translations) they adapted the novel very faithfully....Not that that has anything to do with this, just it can be done.

Loves feel-good animation a whole lot.

It seems harder for novels to get anime adaptations, so if someone's willing to give the go-ahead for one of those it's probably pretty damn good.

Love the pilot! I am following this.

.... Eccentric Family was based on a novel??? Man that's why it seemed so calm and talky!

Hyouka is also a novel. The author is on a hiatus, though.

Pardon the double-posting, but give the band-played version of the OP/ED a listen, because it's excellent:

The OP.

Asuka is fantastic. Even if the rest of the show wasn't that good I might watch it just for her

Goto is hooooot.

Kumiko, honey, the name of the show is Hibike! Euphonium. You are holding what looks like a euphonium in the cover art. I think you are going to play euphonium.

Asuka x Contrabass-chan, oooo, saucy~

Nice "shut uuup!"

Shuichi isn't hot. -_-

"We weren't embracing in the hallway or anything."

Not as hot as Goto!

I would raise my hand for "don't need to compete in the nationals," dang Japanese, just having fun is fine.

I think I like Aoi.

7/10 needs more Goto.

Loves feel-good animation a whole lot.

Episode 12

In which Trombone loses a suitor. ;__;

Have I mentioned yet how uplifting and pristine the opening is?? It really makes me want to play an instrument. And the panning shot that ends on Kumiko is amazing, I don't care if it might be CGI!

My God these students will all have personalities and identities we'll have to keep track of, won't we?

UFO?? No no EUPH!!

Goto looks cooool.

"Come on baby." …. AAH—AH-A- MY GOD ASUKA IS EVEN COOLER!!!! SHE STEALS THE WHOLE SHOW!!

Oboe and fagott—- ….. FAGGOT????

lol the got the hots for teacher. He looks like Rei and Makoto fused together.

….. God Kyo Ani's animation is ****** beautiful it hurts.

lol in the end credits, when they're running through flowers, Sapphire decides to SKIP! :D

Is Asuka's Gratuitous English gonna be a Once an Episode thing?

It's one thing to make a spectacle. It's another to make a difference.

Actually, she did it twice this episode. I think it's just going to a character tic.

I feel Aoi's "Three years pass quickly, you know." will gain significance as the story goes on.

[up] My interpretation is that it's easy to be enthusiastic about music when you're still starting but when you reach third year and you have to face entrance exams and think about the future, you start to lose interest in favor of more profitable courses

Btw is the "dud gold" a real thing?
