Someone on Royal Road (a writing site I'm on) read all four chapters that I've posted so far (of my most current story, I mean), and they left really supportive comments! I'm so happy.

Anyone here have a habit of thinking up one story and then thinking of stories to continue it? I do and it leads me to thinking up a trilogy based on one idea. Since these are game ideas I even think of how those sequels would evolve the original. My main idea would start with one playstyle for both playable characters, the sequel would add additional playstyles and customization, while the third would flat-out allow for build making.

I think I do. Including at least one spinoff idea.

I think that I've done something in a similar vein, albeit I think not often in the early stages of concepting the original work.

I usually just try to put everything into the same story. I'm ambitious that way.

I mean, in one of my cases the "follow-up" idea occurs hundreds of years after the "original" idea, in a different location, with different people. :P

(Although it does share one antagonistic group.)

I'm coming up with a completely silly scenario of random teleportations just for the purposes of getting characters to interact with people they don't get enough interactions with lol. It's the only way I can do it without it feeling weird.

okay, I'm current on an SCP kick looking for story ideas and I came across SCP-2747. The article tells a pataphysical entities named "anafabula" and the SCP's efforts to learn about and observe it. This, being death, destroyer of narratives here, their efforts are reduced to a joke with the punchline being [DATA LOST]

Of course I bring up here to ask for a discussion on metanarratives and how to incorporate a similar being into my own and I would likely to get answers before the anafabua destroys the wiki and orphans these references thanks

Also, i might be making light of the topic, but I will stress that something that destroys narratives by first destroying references to them is outright terrifying. This is part of whay I'm fascinated by 2747 and want to make a similar tale one day.

That reminds me of the notion that you're not really dead until the last time someone speaks your name, and of the related practice in Ancient Egypt of destroying depictions and written names of someone who's dead and hated, erasing their memory and essentially causing them to be Deader than Dead.

Now you have me wondering if TVT is an SCP

That's getting into oldschool WMG territory...

But yeah, what a cool concept. I love stuff like that.

the thing is that "damnato memorae" doesn't usually risk an apocalypse (esp with the tech level ancient Rome and Egypt had at the item) the way this thing does, but then again that is because the article is meta-fictional in nature.

Hmm... I suppose that it depends on whether you want the being to be effective only within the confines of your story, or on the story itself.

With the former it may be relatively easy: describe the characters encountering the effects of the being, and how it affects them.

The latter might be more challenging, I imagine: you'd want to find a way to balance the effect of the entity being palpable, without the work becoming an illegible mess.

Otherwise, one question might be that of the specifics of your entity: is it exactly the same as the SCP to which you linked, or is it different?

If so, then I should perhaps clarify that said line was a reference to my having stated that amnestics would be applied to everyone in the thread—presumably then including myself. Hence leading to my no longer remembering the topic.

Working on Chapter 12.

I feel like these upcoming chapters are going to be a major turning points in the novel.

Today I began work on chapter one of a new work only to realize I have no idea how to do a chapter one so it is still blank.

I tend to struggle a lot with beginnings.

Beginnings are hard.

Our team is a family of science heroes (heavily influenced/inspired by Tom Strong). They’ve been in the hero game since the 60s (anti-aging drug; long story).

In the early 80s, Filmation decided to make a cartoon series based on Jonah’s adventures. His only caveat? Since his children were still very young (5 and 2), they wouldn’t be in the show. The main focus would be on Jonah and his wife, Sabela.

HOWEVER, the writers, in their infinite wisdom, decided to include an annoying comic-relief character instead of the children. Many critics claim it’s the reason the show tanked after one season.

For a duo that’s basically half Indiana Jones, half Reed Richards, what sort of goofy character would’ve worked for this era? Alien, robot, animal, etc?

A robot or small Ewok-like alien, as was the fashion following Star Wars, or possibly some cursed combination of the three à la Muffit II◊ from the original Battlestar Galactica.
