And why do we expect anyone involved to be trying to troll us?

Because it's the avant garde thing to do, and if there's anything this show is, it's avant garde.

All previous SHAFT works were based on pre existing properties, so we had overall ideas of where could they lead to. But here, I'm betting on them going into whatever direction suits their whims best.

Okay, so the trope list for Puella Magi Madoka Magica all of a sudden says:

Where the hell did that come from? Because it is goddamn shitcreepy.

Please be gentle with me.

No, accusing creators of trolling their fanbase is the imageboard thing to do

So what? Very often, Dumbass Has a Point, after all. I think it's an actual tendence of creators nowadays, especially since everyone began to hop on the Eva bandwagon.

I've seen (though I can't recall where) Shinbo and Urobuchi quoted to the effect that this is going to be an Earn Your Happy Ending situation for all concerned.

^^^Oh, I know what the things are, I've been following the series myself. I was just wondering who had the bright idea to combine it with a Pringles jingle, because for some reason that shit is unnerving me at a very primal level.

Please be gentle with me.

I was very impressed by the first episode. I really love darker magical girl shows and deconstructions of the genre. Looking forward to future episodes.

Wait, this show is supposed to be a De Construction? I haven't watched much Mahou Shoujo series (Sailor Moon a LOONG time ago when it was the only anime on TV, and maybe bits of other shows I watched out of boredom), but this one seems pretty typical to me...

"Good girl protagonist gaining magical powers from cute talking animal. The main character will probably be powered my love and/or friendship." And I'm willing to bet that other girl will end up warming up to the main character and join them after some character development.

That said, my opinion on this show....

I like those weird cut-out mooks. The art is nice. And the guns are kinda cool. And I like the mom. Kinda pity the dad though.

Uh... Well... Damn...

This show seems to have an interesting premise, but I can't bring myself to finish the first episode after seeing the first set of monsters. It's like the Magical Girl version of Eversion. I... Yeah...

@Signed: Common opinion is that Kyube and/or Mami are hiding something important, and that Homura has been the good guy all along, giving concerned warnings to Madoka based on information we don't have yet. That's just the vibe the show gives off. Sayaka also seems likely to get too caught up in this and die.

It's almost funny the way that everyone suspects that Kyuubeh and Mami are evil. I'll laugh my ass off if it turns out they're not.

[up][up]It just seems so obvious. :D And seeing as how the show is meant to be a deconstruction of a mahou shoujo series, a nice way to do so would be to put a spin on the naivety of the girls and how eager they are to fight and all. Only for them to get stabbed in the back.

I don't think I'd mind if that theory didn't come through though, just as long as they justified it nicely. P:

Also, some of the WM Gs in the main Madoka Magica page are really cool. *^*

I still have the hunch this will have a happy ending... just because in this kind of show, that's the unexpected way to troll everyone.

Eh, Faust has a happy ending (of sorts). If it is going to paralell Faust (which it may or may not) but since the entire moral of the thing is "being unselfish and caring for others can get you out of even a Deal with the Devil"...

After reading the show's page, I noticed something...

  • Gratuitous German: The language of choice for the bizarre creatures at the end of the first episode. They speak in a highly disturbing, screechy and somewhat childlike voice, which is arguably even scarier if you can understand bits of what they're saying. Let's just say those flying scissors aren't just for show...

So...what are they saying? And why aren't those scissors just for show?

What's actually being said — or rather chanted:

"Das. Sind. Mir. Unbekannte. Blumen. — Ja. Sie. Sind. Mir. Auch. Unbekannt. — Schneiden. Wir. Sie. Ab. — Ja. Schneiden. Doch. Sie. Ab. — Die. Rosen. Schenken. Wir. Unserer. Königin."

English equivalent: "These. Are. Unfamiliar. Flowers. To. Me. — Yes. They. Are. Unknown. To. Me. Also. — (Enter scissors.) We'll. Cut. Them. Off. — Yes. Just. Cut. Them. Off. — We. Present. The. Roses. To. Our. Queen."
