He is very obviously inspired by the protagonist of Kafka's Metamorphosis, down to the insect arm: but his mutation is wholly engineered and meant to make him (and many people who have received his same mutations) serve as soldiers in the so-called 'Smoke War'. Not that he is happy at all about having been a soldier in the past.

Still, he can be relied upon to perform a good job whenever needed, and has a surprising amount of knowledge and skills he can apply. Both from Palworld, of course, and as for flagging... from what I can gather Pals are in the same boat as their very obvious inspirations of being implicitly sapient in a lot of ways even though the setting is framed as if they were animalistic, so the same hazy "Safe i guess???" flag applies. I think.
