Okay, so maybe it's time to put it to a crowner. Something to the effect of:

: It has been determined that Vapor Wear has an unclear definition; however, there is disagreement on what to do about it.

Options:

  1. Disambiguate Vapor Wear between Cleavage Window, Navel-Deep Neckline, Sexy Slit Dress, Stripperiffic, etc. Mutually exclusive with redefining.
  2. Define Vapor Wear to refer to outerwear whose appearance strongly indicates, e.g. by skin being shown, that the character is not wearing underwear, which may include Navel-Deep Neckline, Sexy Slit Dress, Stripperiffic, etc. Mutually exclusive with disambiguating.

I agree with option 2 in post 52, but I don't agree with disambiguating. I think the Vapor Wear trope should continue to exist, but with the tropes listed as related tropes or subtropes. I think we should simplify the Vapor Wear text and list the subtropes as in the Living a Double Life trope, which I show you as an example.

[up]Yeah, that's basically what I had in mind with that option.

Correcting my previous post. Answer #51, not 52. I'm referring to the StarSword answer.

If we do redefine Vaporwear along the lines in the crowner, I would also advocate for a rename, just so people know that the trope has changed and it's easier to deal with new misuse of the current name (I still clean up new wicks to Gag Boobs despite the rename to Boob-Based Gag, for example)

[up]I disagree - I believe the current name perfectly fits the redefined definition to a T.

I'm lovin' it. (My Troper Wall)

I'll also note that the definition in the crowner, or at least things close to it, was the most common usage of the trope in the wick check by far.

Calling in favor of defining Vapor Wear to refer to outerwear whose appearance strongly indicates, e.g. by skin being shown, that the character is not wearing underwear, which may include Navel-Deep Neckline, Sexy Slit Dress, Stripperiffic, etc.

Get a sandbox ready if that's necessary. I'm not sure if a rename crowner is necessary if most of the usage already fits the revised definition, judging by the post before this one.
