Making disambigs for works that share names...

Go To

As seen in the Do we have a project to disambig works? Ask The Tropers, there are many works pages that seem to need disambigs, by virtue of sharing names and having no differentiation.

This thread is for the discussion and listing of what to do about such pages.

See here for a list of needed disambigs.

I'm delayed a bit due to family drama.

Will work (slowly) on another Batman Returns game page.

There is the creepypasta Literature.Doors and the 2022 VideoGame.Doors.

Would moving them to Literature.Doors Creepypasta and VideoGame.Doors 2022 be a good idea? The former does say "Credited to aCJohnson" though.

The Doors thing came up before.

This says 2021 for the game. These say 2022: [1] [2] [3] [4]

There's also another Doors game that says it came out in 2022: [5] [6]

Then, the Doors Roblox game could be moved to VideoGame.Doors Roblox, with the custom title Doors (Roblox).

[up] I'd be fine with that.

So I'm thinking the Main.Doors will look something like this (should I hide the disambiguating words?):

Doors may be referring to:

There's also Film. The Door (a 2008 short film), and I'd like to make a page for this creepypasta of the same name, probably at Literature. The Door Creepypasta. Should those be included here?

[up] Bumping my last question, but also bringing up another clash.

Film.Night Shift is a 1982 comedy film, Literature.Night Shift is a short story collection by Stephen King that was published in 1978, and VideoGame.Night Shift is a short horror game by Puppet Combo from 2018.

Would disambiguating by year be acceptable here?

[up] Disambig by year. And in the doors thing the disambiguating words aren't meant to be hidden.

Since Primal (2019) shares its title and release year with a Nicholas Cage film

Could Primal (Genndy Tartakovsky) work instead?

For the film

I could go with Primal (Nick Powell) or Primal (Nicholas Cage)

How about Primal (Thriller)

What about move the show's page to the expanded title redirect: Genndy Tartakovsky's Primal?

As for the film, I lean towards Primal (Thriller). Or the director name but I'm not sure.

[up] It's a "Creator's Title" situation, and although it's official, the "Title" part is significantly more prominent so I don't like that.

The better option is probably to leave the animated show as is and move the film to Film.Primal Nick Powell. (Also, if we go by actor instead it's Nicolas Cage, not Nicholas.)

Does there need to be a redirect for Cargo? Two of the listed works don't have a page.

[up] Page or not, the works do exist, so that's enough of a reason for me to defend pre-emptive disambiguation.

Feels good, don't it?

I don't think preemptive disambigs are allowed anymore, and I personally think it should be un-disambiguated.

Should VideoGame.Smart Ball Game Freak be moved back to VideoGame.Smart Ball? It doesn't have any subpages, and the only thing it shares a name with is the trope Smart Ball (tropes can't have the same subpages that works can).

Is this the right place to discuss works in the same franchise that share a page?

[up][up][up] It's certainly unusual for a work to be disambiguated from a trope if there's no subpage or custom title collision, but it's my preferred way of doing things, and because the video game is already disambiguated it might as well stay there.

I want to make a page for the New 52 Green Lantern series. My problem is that the namespace is taken by Green Lantern (2011). Since I'm trying to move away from using era's for disambiguations, I can't use Green Lantern New 52, and I'm not sure what to call the page. I can't use Green Lantern Geoff Johns either because his run encompasses Green Lantern (2005) too. So I'm at a loss. Can anyone suggest anything?

It's gonna be fun on the bun!

In this case, New 52 is the best disambiguation available.

Film.Body Count 1994 and VideoGame.Body Count 1994 are having overlapping disambiguations. the Video Game can easily be Rail Shooter, but what about the movie?

[1] (on Primal)

The full title is Genndy Tartakovsky’s Primal: Tales of Savagery, so maybe we could go with WesternAnimation.Primal Tales Of Savagery

I just noticed that the title of the trope Wild Card is rendered as WILD/CARD. There are multiple works with the same title, and the rendering belongs to WebVideo.Wild Card. I think that these works might need to be disambiguated, but most importantly, the custom title rendering should be removed.

Fixed. As you said, it was a botched attempt to custom title a work, which hit the trope by accident; the work has since been disambiguated.

I noticed that WebVideo.Re View shares its name with Series.Review and Main.Review, despite the fact that one has a capital V in the middle and the other two don't. This is awkward because the web video should really be styled/WikiWord-ed as "re:View", but we can't have that style on one page without affecting the others. (I submitted a request to change the style to "re:View" before I noticed the problem.)

So, how does this usually work? I know a lot of works get disambiguated by year, but I don't know if that applies to series that span multiple years. (The TV show ran from 2014 to 2017, and the web videos started in 2016 and continue today.)

Maybe change the web video to WebVideo.Re View Red Letter Media?
