  • Self-confessed video game addict Phil Collins played himself in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories.
    • Every Grand Theft Auto game from the third onwards features Lazlow Jones as a radio personality (most often associated with talk radio shows, in addition to being the DJ for V-Rock in the Vice City duology), who hosts his own radio show in the real world. In addition, Lazlow is a major figure in the development of the series, being the chief writer in charge of managing the various radio stations that air in-game. He finally makes a physical appearance in Grand Theft Auto V, where he suffers various humiliations from the protagonists.
    • In addition to voicing Madd Dog in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Ice-T actually voices a version of himself that appears in the radio broadcast for the game.
    • Pretty much every Radio Host in the series appears as themselves, though most of them only voice the lines for the radio programs. However, special note goes to Rebel Radio host, Jessco White, in Grand Theft Auto V who actually does appear in person in the enhanced version of the game as a special character that is always tapdancing.
    • In Grand Theft Auto Online during the After Hours update, the nightclub DJ for the player characters nightclub are none other than Solomun, Tales of Us, Dixon, and The Blessed Madonna (known in the game as The Black Madonna as the update was released before she changed her DJ name). Later in The Cayo Perico Heist update, the Music Locker introduces new DJ's such as Kenny Dixon Jr., or Moodyman, Palm Trax, and Keinmusik. Duringthe Gather Intel part of the actual heist, Dr. Dre, DJ Pooh and Jimmy Lovine appear and attempt to go to the titular island but are unable to attend because someone stole Dre's phone. In exchange, they send Scott Scorch to the island party as backup. They later return in The Contract update with Dr. Dre being one of Franklin Clinton's clients and the update focusing on retrieving unreleased songs from Dr. Dre that were stolen. Later in the update, Anderson. Paak actually appears and works with Dre to make a new song along with Lola Romero. Much later in 2023, Snoop Dogg actually voices himself in some of the newer radio station lines added to the game.
  • Rob Zombie, who provided the soundtrack for Twisted Metal III and 4 appeared as a playable character in Twisted Metal 4. In his ending, his wish is to "let the world hear the wails and war cries of a dead man's soul." He gets it in the form of a clip from one of his music videos.
  • Takashi Miike shows up in No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle to deliver a Beam katana to Shinobou. He shows up again in No More Heroes III to get Travis out of his grave.
  • Art Bell plays himself hosting a fictionalized version of Coast to Coast AM in Prey (2006). It is scripted to play out like real call-in segments of the show would, providing a from-Earth account of the in-game plot developments.
  • Burt Reynolds plays himself as the Mayor of Steelport in Saints Row: The Third.
  • Nazi Zombies; one of the game modes for Call of Duty: Black Ops, gives us Call of the Dead. Hell yeah we wanna party.
    • Lieutenant Colonel Oliver North was brought along to help produce Call of Duty: Black Ops II. He also voices himself in a brief cameo early on in the campaign.
  • The birds in Hatoful Boyfriend are stock images, the writer's own photography, and so on. One of the birds, Oko San, is represented with a photo of her own pet bird, Okosan. Unlike the other characters in the game, Oko San is a Partially Civilized Animal rather than a Civilized Animal, and while the others get human portraits, his is just a drawing of a pigeon.
  • Some of the later LEGO Adaptation Games feature minifigures based on real people as characters, with their real-life counterparts providing the voices:
  • In Just Cause 3, David Tennant is the voice behind the local Propaganda Machine and it's implied in-game that he might actually be the actor who was kidnapped in-universe.
  • Marc Eckō's Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure features cameos from several real-life graffiti artists, who give the player character Trane advice on graffiti techniques.
  • The h3h3 DLC in PAYDAY 2 has YouTubers Ethan and Hila Klein playing fictionalized versions of themselves.
  • Professional wrestler and avid video game fan Xavier Woods voices his own Bomber counterpart in Super Bomberman R.
  • Leisure Suit Larry 7: Love for Sail!: Peggy is listed in the credits as "Herself". She's actually voiced by Mary Kay Bergman, but requested not to be credited due to her foul language.
  • Like a Dragon:
    • In Yakuza Kiwami, retired two time world judo champion Shinichi Shinohara appears in one sidequest, providing the face and voice of... retired judo champion Shinichi Shinohara.
    • During the development of Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Sega held an open audition for the last party member of the Heroes of Tomorrow. The Top 5 all get cast as fictionalized versions of themselves, while the winner gets the added bonus of being an Optional Party Member.
      • Winner: Eri Kamataki - President (later Vice-President) of the struggling Ichiban Confections; She plays a major role in the Business Management activity, and acts as Ichiban's secretary. Make enough progress in Business Management, and she will be available as a party member.

      • Fourth Place: Manae Miyakoshi - A receptionist at the Ounabara Vocational School; through her, Ichiban can take courses that, if passed, develop aspects of his personality. This in turn increases his resistance to certain status ailments, unlocks access to certain activities, and allows him to apply for certain jobs.
      • Fifth Place: Ririka - An employee at the Ijincho branch of Hello Work; through her, Ichiban and his party can apply for new jobs, change jobs, and select outfits.
    • Kei in Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth and Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name is a Revolve Bar employee played by VTuber and streamer Kson On Air. Kei is effectively Kson playing herself, from being an English potty-mouth, to fangirling over Kiryu Kazuma, to her fondness for pizza, and more.

  • Takahashi Meijin, a former executive at Hudson Soft, appears as the Player Character's commanding officer in Star Gagnant, voiced by himself. Notably, the game features a Button Mashing mechanic, inspired by Takahashi's legendary rapid-tapping capability, having once been able to achieve a 16 Hz tapping rate.
  • Used as a gag in the remake of Live A Live. Cube is The Unintelligible (he "speaks" in computer chirps), so his voice actor is listed as "Himself" in the credits.
