Because Kinkajou told me to.
So yeah, anything about Final Fantasy! I guess this would make a good starting point: Which are your favorite games in the series and why?
My two all-time favorites are tied between Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy IX. They're both very fun games that don't take themselves too seriously while still being legitimately emotional. On top of that, Zidane is my favorite Final Fantasy lead in the entire series. He's light-hearted, fun, and a generally nice guy to be around. FFV also has the advantage of having one of, if not the best, Job System in an FF game. Both FFV and FFIX make characters customizable while keeping them all unique in their own way. I'm also very fond of Final Fantasy I; it hasn't aged well, but it's classic, and like FFV, I played it tons as a kid.
I assume we'll drift around to various other FF-related discussions as the topic grows, right?

PS 5 exclusive.
(cries over my ps5) no one likes my boy.
Kaze ni Nare! It'll probably sell a bunch once its on PC anyway.
SE's games don't sell much at all on Xbox Hardware.
Plus, with FFXIV's launch on there getting botched to hell, I don't blame them for not doing many Xbox releases anymore.

Watch SymphogearIt wouldn’t surprise me if SE is focusing their attention right now on the Switch 2’s specs in hopes that they can port FFXVI and the FFVII Remake trilogy. With how popular the Switch is in Japan, they’d be foolish not to consider it, imo.
Would it have been a bad idea if they did a PS 4 version of Rebirth?
-Witty line-I mean I'm still stuck with a PS 4 until further notice myself.
Rebirth is gonna be one of the first games I grab when I do upgrade... After Helldivers 2.
Rebirth's sales would have doubled if the Tifa/Aerith sex scene was actually on screen just saying.
Square's been really weird with games lately though. They're releasing some decent stuff but giving it absolutely no fanfare whatsoever. And yet they keep saying they'll "Be more selective about what they release" I mean come on there's only so many times you can prune a tree before you cut off all the branches.
It seems FF XVI and new ideas is more profitable than rehashing Final Fantasy VII. Or God forbid, FF X-3
The new guard of Final Fantasy devs seem to be much more healthier for the series brand as a whole. FF XIV is still one of the most profitable things for Square.

I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult. As a big fan of FFXVI, that honestly stuns me. I thought people didn't like that game at all.
Kaze ni Nare!Well, FFXVI wasn't universally liked. It's gotten as much backlash as it has people defending it. It also didn't sell that much more than Rebirth as far as we know, while getting lower reviews scores from both critics and users, so it's not like it has some massive win over Rebirth.
One of the dumbest things they did was release World of Final Fantasy at almost the same time as Final Fantasy XV. They're both great games but Wo FF got overshadowed by the main franchise star power.

Life is more fun with infinite MP.Yeah a lot of people didn’t like the way the way you have to do side quests before progressing the plot. [Insert joke Mid giving Mid quests]
Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession. No, the biggest sin was releasing FF Mystic Quest at the time of not releasing FFV. Poor Mystic Quest....
-Witty line-Remake is the second best selling FF game…. Rebirth is the 14th best selling game but the 4th best selling game on consoles in the US this year.

Give it a few months and PC port.
Mileena MadnessYeah, I'm gonna need a big fat [citation needed] on claims that Rebirth is selling poorly, as well as for what measure these analysts are actually looking at - Day/week/month 1 sales? Physical only, or digital as well? etc.
As far as I know Squeenix hasn't said anything about Rebirth's sales being a disappointment, but if I've missed something please let me know.
PSN ID: FateSeraph | Switch friendcode: SW-0145-8835-0610 Congratulations! She/TheySquare Enix being silent on Rebirth's sales is itself suspicious because Square usually only announces sales data when they want to brag about how high it is, so not saying anything gives the impression that it's nothing to brag about.
From what I can gather, several analyst's have said that Rebirth's sales have been significantly behind Remake's, and Remake sold 3.5 million in its first week, so that leads everyone to believe at least that Rebirth sold less than 3.5 million. Additionally, we have sales rankings for game in the US in 2024, which doesn't give exact numbers but shows that Rebirth has sold less in the US than Dragon's Dogma II. There's similar statistics for UK sales as well. Dragon's Dogma II has been confirmed to have sold 2.5 million worldwide, so it's a safe guess that Rebirth has probably sold a bit less than that worldwide. Some people have also looked at PS5 player data to try and tell how many sales it got, which is a really shaky method but apparently implied about 2 million sales.
Overall, a lot of people are guessing Rebirth sold around 2 to 2.5 million copies.
Do I seriously live in a timeline where a Dragon's Dogma game outsold a Final Fantasy VII game. Am I in bizzaro world.
If I sent this information to my past self he would kill me claiming I'm an imposter.
That is valuable data to consider.
I'd also consider that Remake had the wombo-combo of initial hype (that began in fanboy minds over a decade before the Remake project even existed on paper); releasing at the tail end of the PS 4's lifespan, a console which was vastly more available than the PS 5; released during COVID which kept everyone locked at home and saw other title have anomalously meteoric sales (Animal Crossing & the Switch itself, for example); and released at a time when there weren't a ton of other major titles also releasing.
Rebirth has none of those factors going for it, and I'd say it is genuinely irrational to expect it to compete with Remake's sales; the variables surrounding the two are so wildly different that you would literally be better off trying to catch lightning in a bottle twice with the same bottle.
To be fair, this is also the same world and timeline where Raiden became a cooler than Dante

PSN ID: FateSeraph | Switch friendcode: SW-0145-8835-0610 Congratulations! She/TheyProbably not helped with the idea that the first game ended with the story literally killing the enforcers of plot of the original game and deciding to go on and do their own thing. Perhaps many people saw that as a middle finger to the original fans, or maybe they thought that they wanted a remake and not a new story with the same cast and opted to not continue. "I want FFVII Remake, not FFVII Reimagined."
-Witty line-I finally saw the Famicom Cartdridges for Final Fantasy I,II and III. They look great.
Discord: Waido X 255#1372 If you cant contact me on TV Tropes do it here. They do but the NES cartridge has an axe on it and is therefore objectively better because it has an axe on it.
I always called Black Mage "Cone" because of his blue robes.
-Witty line-I had ZEKE the thief, JILL the fighter, JUAN the Black Mage and KORN the Red Mage on my last run.
It genuinely baffles me that Rebirth would sell poorly. And I say that as someone who's not really a fan of the remakes.
Do we know what the problem was?
Kaze ni Nare!
